I think I'm going to make a journey to this place:
Quote : | "Westvleteren 12 is a Belgian Trappist Ale that has consistently been voted the single best tasting beer in the world. All major beer rating sites agree that this is the pinnacle of beers, including: Beer Advocate, Rate Beer and Beer Pal.
That's a little over 2,300 beer experts saying that this is the best beer, anywhere. Located in the western corner of Belgium, the St Sixtus Abbey (or Westvleteren Abdij) is home to the Trappist Westvleteren Brewery. The Brewery was founded in 1838 and is owned and operated by the monks of the St Sixus Abbey.
The brewery currently brews only three beers:
Westvleteren Blonde (green cap), 5.8% ABV, introduced on 10 June, 1999. Westvleteren 8 (blue cap) (formerly Extra), 8% ABV. Westvleteren 12 (yellow cap) (formerly Abt), a 10.2% ABV, introduced in 1940. " |

Dogfish Head founder Sam Calagione to host new Discovery Channel series BREWED this fall.
Quote : | "Meet Sam Calagione: maverick entrepreneur, family man and owner of Dogfish Head Brewery in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. As an ambassador to the world of craft beer, Sam travels the world to experience what every culture brings to its own special brew.
In BREWED, Sam shows viewers the other side of the bottle, sharing the stories of beer sub-cultures as well as exploring life inside The Dogfish Head Brewery. BREWED goes behind the scenes at Dogfish Head as Sam’s merry band of creative brewmasters concoct new taste varieties.
“BREWED taps more than just kegs and barrels, it unlocks a fascinating history of beer making, showcasing the ingenuity and passion behind our love affair with those alluring suds and how it played a role in building civilizations,” said Clark Bunting, President and General Manager of Discovery Channel.
Running a successful business also requires inspiration, so BREWED hits the road for the ultimate beer tasting road trip. Along with archeologist and beer expert Pat McGovern, Sam sets out to recreate “ancient ales” that have been discovered at sites around the world from Egypt to Peru. He travels to Rome to research old world Italian beers as inspiration for a new site in New York with Mario Batali. A visit to New Zealand introduces the idea of making the “first tomato based beer.” And back home, Sam is tasked to come up with a commemorative beer called “Bitches Brew” to celebrate the 40th anniversary release of Miles Davis’ famous recording.
“Beer has always been my passion. It is so much more than what you see in the glass. I’m excited to share the diligence, daring and creativity that we pour into our work,” said Calagione.
BREWED is produced for Discovery Channel by Zero Point Zero Productions. Chris Collins and Lydia Tenaglia are executive producers. Tim Pastore is executive producer for Discovery Channel. " |

I had it 2 trips ago at saucer... it was incredibly dry and hoppy for what I was expecting. it wasn't terrible, but not what I was wanting at the time. Also made the mistake of following it up with 2 wit beers 7/22/2010 9:37:47 AM |

So you were expecting a "triple IPA" to be sweet and malty? That sounds like a personal problem, not any fault of the beer or brewer.
^nice, I've always wanted to try those beers but was never willing to pay the exorbitant price it costs to have them shipped to the states.7/22/2010 4:21:11 PM |

I'm going insane. Does anyone remember what the tap night beer at the Raleigh Saucer was two Thursday's ago? It was a Triple IPA but I can't for the life of me remember what it was. 12.9% and when I took a sip of it it gave me the same reaction as when I have a heavy Barleywine. Good taste though.
Haha, never mind... it was what Brett was talking about. The Founders Devil Dancer.

Quote : | "Our old buddies BrewDog have done it again. Not content with winning back the "strongest beer in the world" title last February with its Sink the Bismarck!, they've now upped their game with a new brew that is 55 percent alcohol by volume and carries a $765 price tag. It's called The End of History.
Oh, and did we mention that the bottles come in stuffed animals-like stuffed animals that were once alive? The 12 bottles have been made featuring seven dead stoats (a kind of weasel), four squirrels and one rabbit. James Watt, one of the two guys behind BrewDog, put it better than we ever could: "The impact of The End of History is a perfect conceptual marriage between taxidermy, art and craft brewing." Just like we've all been waiting for!
For those interested in the actual beer, it's a blond Belgian ale with touches of nettles and juniper berries -- and in order to achieve the brain-blasting alcohol content, it had to be created using extreme freezing techniques." |
