in all seriousness, my cousin started getting drunk when he was like 10. his parents got divorced and it was all she wrote from there. pretty much his entire life he's been chemically altering so it makes total sense why he can't seem to function without drugs.
still,he managed to turn his life around and do well for a pretty good run, so when he went back, it made everyone angrier than sad 3/11/2013 4:45:35 PM |

^Its easy. You just have to tell people that getting high isn't worth it. Then they will think about it and change their mind.

actually, I'm all for decriminalization/legalization
people should be allowed to get as high as they want. i think the Dutch model in this country would be great
there are plenty of people who can use drugs responsibly, and we should use the money that we're wasting to fight the war on drugs for rehab facilities/education
i still think that labeling drug use as a 'disease' is problematic and that people use it as an excuse for their poor choices though

what?
if drugs were legal and easier to get, RachelMarie wouldn't have to be out robbing people to get drugs, would she?
she could get as high as she wanted all day and not really affect anyone but herself
yeah, i bet her family would be sad, but it's her choice. better to have her do it a safe environment like a clinic than all willy nilly out on the streets 3/11/2013 5:03:35 PM |

Quote : | "treatment if the person is willing to accept it. prison is not always the best place for a junkie to be as" |
Again, I agree that she shouldn't be sent to prison for being a junkie. I view that as a health and social issue, not a criminal issue.
...but the problem here is that she didn't get (enough?) treatment early enough. That's unfortunate, but now she's crossed the line into burglary and theft, and that's not a health or social issue...it's a criminal issue. What the hell do you think a lot (most?) burglary and larceny is about? We rightly don't excuse that behavior just because the perpetrator is a junkie. Sure, she should still get help, but at this point she has to go to the slammer, because she's a crook.3/11/2013 5:41:22 PM |

So someone who chooses to get high and use drugs is entitled to "treatment". Treatment is for illnesses, being a drug addict is a choice. No one makes a person takes drugs, you decide to do drugs. This bitch needs some prison time just like every other drug addict. "Fuck Treatment" 3/11/2013 5:46:11 PM |

I bet heroin is awesome.
I imagine as the drug hits your bloodstream, a rush of orgasmic euphoria washes over you, enveloping you in a warm blanket of apathetic bliss as you gently nod in and out of consciousness.

I assume she would have to be arrested with a drug charge before the state could mandate treatment. Otherwise jail is probably all they can do unless she voluntarily asks for treatment.
