^^^ There are a million other ways for Freys to die. You don't need a stupid zombie for that part of the story. They've messed with Brienne's story enough (I mean...fighting the Hound?? come on)...I think they don't have a problem with her not running into Lady Stoneheart.
HBO Guys: "So we really don't know how we would do Lady Stoneheart...and we honestly would rather leave her completely out. You got any big plans for her??"
Martin: "Fuck me...I've got no plans whatsoever for her. I just went through a Walking Dead Marathon and had a stupid inclination and brought her back. Actually...if you guys don't bring her back, that might make it easier for me to diminish her character in the next book...or for whoever will finish my next book."

Oh yeah, once you hit that 2 year mark people will start expecting it Maybe you mean that show watchers will have completely forgotten about her by then and won't care, but I don't know if id agree with that6/27/2014 9:32:12 AM |

that's exactly what i mean. and that's exactly what will happen. Show viewers will have completely forgotten the BWOB, Thoros of Myr, any dialog Beric Dondarrion may have ever uttered about being "brought back", and question how long a body could potentially float in a river and stupid stuff like that. 6/27/2014 10:15:14 AM |

So I've been reading the books over, and watching the last season again.
Did Tyrion ever tell Jaime about Lancel and Kettleblack? If not, that seems like a pretty big game changer for Jaime in the later books. 10/21/2014 7:05:57 PM |

You mean about Cercei sleeping with them? No I don't think it was ever mentioned in the show, strange to me that they left out that relatively short conversation as it becomes a pretty big comment that sticks with Jaime for a while 10/21/2014 8:55:16 PM |

Also, Tommen being so incapable was also a big part of book 4. In the shows, Tommen is pretty grown up. 10/22/2014 7:08:26 AM |

i feel like there was some indication to jaime that cersei had moved on in a scene when pycelle says something to her about a medicine she had asked for & jaime questioned that. maybe i was just reading too much into it though. 10/22/2014 7:24:51 AM |

Going back through the books, there's one thing that really keeps bugging me, that pretty much invalidates the whole story for me.
They've been making such a big deal about how Tommen is not old enough to be king, and that Cersei is king regent bla bla bla, and that she is calling all the shots. She tells Tommen on many occasions that he can't do something that he wants to do as king.
Well, Joffrey fell under those same rules - he was too young to be king so Cersei was queen regent, yet she was powerless to stop Ned from getting beheaded, and she never told Joffrey what to do, even though, based on the rules that GRR has set for Westeros, Joffrey's word doesn't mean anything because he's too young. 11/2/2014 7:30:56 PM |

Ok, I'm guessing the show has completely gone off the rails. It has been a while since I read the books, but I recall Mance being swapped out and not actually burned. The premier made it very clear that he was not swapped.
And the love affair between missendei and gray worm needs to go.

I cant recall if that happened or not, but I don't think I would say they show has completely gone off the rails (yet). They stuck pretty close to the source material last night, I'm sure it will start to deviate as the season progresses though.
Where were Sansa and Littlefinger headed off to? They are still at the Eyrie in the books, correct? 4/13/2015 10:13:53 AM |

considering we haven't seen Rattleshirt in like 2 seasons and there is no mention of glamouring, it was definitely Mance who died last night. which means cutting out all of the Mance's baby and Jon/Mance training chapters.] 4/13/2015 2:22:41 PM |

it sure didn't give any indication he was. and given the tendency to not have flashbacks (save for the opening scene this season), I can't see them in a future episode being like "sike, here's mance and lemme show you how we saved him!" 4/16/2015 12:22:22 PM |

Money_Jones Ohhh Farts 12521 Posts user info edit post |
I'm not saying I think this would happen, but it would be extremely simple for them to explain it, and they don't need flashbacks, or a "be a complete deviation from 4 seasons of writing, production and editing." All that has to happen is have Jon, or someone else, see Mance alive and say to Milesandra "I saw him burn," and she responds "Did you? Or did you see what the lord of light wanted you to see?" Boom. Done. 4/16/2015 1:54:51 PM |
goalielax All American 11252 Posts user info edit post |
so why would they eliminate the entire jon snow.milesandra interaction leading up to it? it's not like the show runners to completely omit plot critical developments just to drop a surprise like that 4/16/2015 10:15:15 PM |
Money_Jones Ohhh Farts 12521 Posts user info edit post |
Like I said, I don't think that will happen, I think they are probably just skipping the whole thing. The only thing he did after remaining alive was to go rescue who they thought was Arya at winterfell. I think they may skip that entire plot point too, so he's probably just dead. His part in the show didn't seem focused on anywhere near as much as it was in the books, so I'm leaning towards him being dead and they are just trimming the fat of some story lines that aren't too important in the grand scheme. 4/17/2015 7:19:38 AM |

I don't want to derail this thread...but I also don't want to make a thread specifically for this topic...and whatever "book" thread Entertainment use to have, everyone ignores it...so...
Is there a similar book series to ASOIAF that I would enjoy?? I was reading a GoT topic on another board and they mentioned something that was similar and very well written...and now I can't find it.
Summer is coming up and I do a good bit of reading on the beach and wouldn't mind getting into another fantasy novel series.
Scratch that...just found the series that was mentioned...."Wheel of Time". Can anyone back that up? Is it good shit?

I don't know if I'd call it a deviation, but they've also left out the attempt to queen Myrcella. That whole episode served as a catalyst for the Prince of Dorne to keep Myrcella away from the Lannisters due to the injuries she received.
I don't recall the beheading of the slave being in the books, and Drogon's appearance is way too early. 4/20/2015 11:05:51 AM |

The Dark Tower is immensely more enjoyable than ASOIAF for me. The first book can be a little tedious, but it's a scant 224 pages and was where King was finding his voice for the epic over the dozen years it took him to write it.
I read ASOIAF after finishing The Dark Tower series a year ago. I enjoy Martin's tale, but I was emotionally attached to The Dark Tower by the time it was over, openly crying over some segments.

I'm pretty sure to Winterfell. LF said his wedding proposal had been accepted, I have a feeling it is him giving Sansa's hand away. Based on the conversation they have in the preview for next week, something about "Get revenge for your family" I could see him convincing her to try and pull a reverse Red Wedding on the Boltons. Or he is just being a prick and playing her, giving her to the Boltons for power - but I'm pretty sure thats where they are going.
I also have a feeling we won't be seeing the Iron Islands at all this season. They didn't cast Vicarion and I can't imagine that we will just never see Vicarion/Balon/Euron again. I would personally love to see this season end with the battle at Mireen and at a big moment we see a fleet of ships arrive with the Kraken on the sails. Then ep1 of next season is a flashback episode only focusing on Vicarion, convering Balon dying, the kingsmoot, him leaving to rescue/attack/whatever Dany. That allows them to spend a few episodes without Jon (pending whatever resolution they give to his story), and really focus on catching the iron island stuff up.
^Yeah I think they had to do that. Drogon still sort of blew Dany off so it will be a big surprise when he flies down to rescue her and she rides off on him.
