So can we get a review of the onside kick at Wake?

Looks like Cheez it Bowl. Could be Oklahoma, Ok State, Baylor, or Iowa State.

Quote :
"NC State offensive lineman Ikem Ekwonu has a new trophy to add to the likely hundreds of pancake syrup bottles he has in his collection. The Wolfpack's starting left tackle has been named the 2021 recipient of the ACC Jacobs Blocking Trophy after his phenomenal junior season.

On the year, Ekwonu has not only been the top offensive lineman in the ACC, but also the top graded tackle in the country, according to Pro Football Focus. His 91.7 grade was No. 2 among Power 5 linemen behind only Tyler Linderbaum of Iowa, who is also up for the Outland Trophy along with Ekwonu and Tyler Davis of Georgia.

While the Wolfpack has put myriad linemen in the NFL over the years, this is the first time since Jim Ritcher in 1979 that a State OL has won the Jacobs Blocking Trophy. Ritcher won the award in back-to-back seasons in 1978 and 1979. The only other player outside of Ekwonu and Ritcher to win the Jacobs Blocking Trophy was Bill Yoest in 1973.

Ekwonu, who was named a finalist for the Outland Trophy last week, tallied a team-leading 67 pancake blocks and 18 knockdowns for the Wolfpack in 2021. A two-time ACC Offensive Lineman of the Week, Ekwonu allowed just two sacks from his left tackle position in 829 snaps this season and has consistently been the high-grader on the Wolfpack offensive line.

Ekwonu technically hasn't committed to the 2022 NFL Draft at this point, but he is viewed as a consensus First Round player and likely Top 10 selection. If Ekwonu does ultimately go in the first round, he would mark the third first-round pick for the Wolfpack in the last five years.

The trophy is given in memory of William P. Jacobs, who served as president of Presbyterian College from 1935 to 1945.

Ekwonu will be honored on Friday, Dec. 3 during the ACC Football Honors event at the Blumenthal Arts Center's Booth Playhouse."

Yeahhh. Really not impressed with him as a play caller. Not sure what his role in Leary’s development has been, maybe he’s a played a big role in that.

It wasn't that it was weak, it was that we would just give up on it. The right side of the OL was the weakest position on the team.

So Knight, Carter & (Thayer) Thomas walked with the Seniors (in addition to Person)?

(Thayer joined the team as a walk-on, apparently already has his business administration degree)

Well Thomas has already been here 5 years. Carter has been here 4 as well. Knight is the only one of those that surprises me a little, but i guess his special teams abilities will help when it comes to potentially getting drafted.

At this point i don't see Carter getting drafted. Thomas could be one of those Hunter Renfrow type guys - a real gym rat who works hard But yeah, i don't recall Carter playing special teams at all, and in the NFL if you aren't a #1 wr/rb, you kinda have to or they'll fill your spot with someone who will.

Rooks needs to spend next 6 months working on hands, if Thayer leaves.

Need to hope some RS or incoming step up if Carter and/or Knight leave

3500 yards. 35 TDs. 5 INTs. Feels like he was robbed. Hartman and Pickett are deserving for sure.

Armstrong 4400 yards, 31 TDs, 10 INTs. Also 250 rush yards. Leary had -74 rush yards. Great numbers but also idk how good he is and how much is just a product of their system/style.

[Edited on November 30, 2021 at 9:47 AM. Reason : Howell ahead of Leary is a crime lol ]

Agreed Howell ahead of Leary is dumb but I can't fault the list makers for giving him honorable mentions. ACC qb class is stacked this year, and while I obviously think Leary is one of the best there were a lot of good choices

IMO, it should have been Pickett, Leary and then Tyler Van Dyke.

TVD was really good. In my mind he only played like 6 games but i just looked and he actually played in all 8 of Miami’s conference games. So yeah throw him in the mix this year. ACC was pretty loaded at QB.

Admittedly I didn’t watch a lot of Wake. But Hartman was just not good vs State and Clemson. Not saying that should’ve knocked him out of contention. But he was 47/90 passing with 4 INTs vs State and Clemson. And 25/51 against UNC. Seemed like he faded down the stretch. But hard not to give him votes after their season.

Yeah he basically played 8 and a half games. He attempted 1 pass versus Alabama and attempted 11 of Miami's 25 passes against Central Connecticut State (he was 10/11 for 270 YD 3 TD.) He threw for more yards and TDs in those 8.5 games than the great Sam Howell did in 11! If you take the Alabama game out, he averaged 325 ypg.

I guess i value not turning the ball over a lot as well as place a higher emphasis on stats from conference games. Hartman and Armstrong led the league in INTs with 10 and Howell was right behind them with 9 (also it's goddamn near impossible to find fumble stats for some reason!) Howell and Hartman were also sub 60% passers when it came to conference play, while also again leading the league with 8 conference INTs apiece. Leary threw 3 conference INTs while leading the ACC with 27 TDs in conference games. Armstrong only threw 20 of his 31 TDs in conference play. He threw for a shit ton of yards but couldn't get it in the end zone like the other (better) QBs.

In conclusion, I think Hartman got votes because Wake won the division and Howell got votes because of what he did the previous two years. Neither of them really deserve it over Leary or Van Dyke in my not so humble opinion. Final rankings for me: 1)Pickett 2)Leary 3)Van Dyke HM)Armstrong, Hartman

Armstrong attempted 40+ passes in 8/11 games. He didn’t play one game. That’s a big part of why his yardage numbers are so lofty.

Yeah he threw the ball a ton. Just saying, for a guy who threw for so many more yards and attempts than anyone else, his TD numbers are low while still leading the conference in interceptions.

We aren't gonna get one of those 3 though. No matter what happens, Oklahoma State and Baylor are both going to NY6 bowl games at the very least (an OSU win gets then in the playoffs without a doubt.) Oklahoma will be going to the Alamo bowl. We will get either Iowa State or K-State. That side of the Cheez-Its bowl is a done deal.
