RNC speaker list includes Dana White, Amber Rose, and Marjorie Taylor Greene.

Quote :
"Rose claimed to have begun stripping at the age of 15 under the pseudonym "Paris" to provide for her family after her parents' divorce. On Van Lathan's The Red Pill podcast, she claimed that she also attempted to sell crack cocaine, but was not successful."

This would be a source of shame if this was a party sensitive to shame.

Their choice of speakers is perplexing

Quote :
"One of tonight's scheduled speakers is Savannah Chrisley, who comes not from the world of politics but reality television.

Chrisley, 26, has appeared on the teen pageant circuit, season 11 of The Masked Singer and the movie Sharknado 4: The 4th Awakens, among others.

She is probably best known, however, for Chrisley Knows Best, a USA Network show about her wealthy southern family. The show, which aired from 2014 to 2023, focused primarily on her parents, real-estate tycoon Todd Chrisley and his wife Julie.

But Todd and Julie were accused of funding their lavish lifestyle through dishonest means, and in June 2022 were found guilty on federal charges including bank fraud and tax evasion.

A jury found the couple guilty of conspiring to defraud community banks out of more than $30 million in fraudulent loans, among other counts, according to the AP.

Prosecutors alleged they submitted fake documents to banks when applying for loans, and used a company they controlled to hide income to keep the IRS from collecting unpaid taxes owed by Todd.

Their accountant, Peter Tarantino, was also found guilty of conspiracy to defraud the United States and willfully filing false tax returns.

Todd and Julie were ordered to pay millions in restitution, and were sentenced to 12 and seven years, respectively. They reported to prison in January 2023.

Their sentences were reduced several months later to 10 and 5 years each. Federal appeals judges threw Julie's sentence out entirely this past June over a calculation issue and sent the case back to a lower court for re-sentencing.

Savannah, who hosts a podcast called "Unlocked with Savannah Chrisley," has since spoken out about the hardships associated with her parents' incarceration, from taking on guardianship of her younger brother and niece to the living conditions they are facing in prison.

"The heat index was 105-110 degrees, and there's no air conditioning outside the visitation room," she said earlier this month, about the Kentucky facility where Julie is living. "Mom said she got physically sick from the heat. It's beyond inhumane."

Savannah is slated to speak on the night of the convention dedicated to safety, including criminal justice.

She told FOX Business this week that her speech will discuss the U.S. Department of Justice, which she described as "so broken that the only option we have is to completely deconstruct it and build it back.""

https://www.cnn.com/2024/07/17/politics/senators-confront-cheatle-rnc/index.html

Quote :
"A stunning scene played out at the Republican National Convention on Wednesday as a group of GOP senators chased Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle through the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee, shouting that she has refused to answer questions regarding the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.

“This was an assassination attempt! You owe the people answers. You owe president Trump answers!” Tennessee Sen. Marsha Blackburn shouted at Cheatle, who continued to walk with her head down and ignore the senators’ criticism."

that latino woman really got on my nerves. just so dumb, and so confident in how dumb they are that think they're saying something smart

[Edited on July 20, 2024 at 10:52 AM. Reason : 1]

I've said it a few times before, and I'll say it again, this whole thing is spurred by a crisis of identity. The world has changed. None of these people in this party giving speeches are actual men, none of them are actual Christians... cause cultural religiosity has been lost. They're fighting a losing game, and it's a joke and so cringe to watch, cause they're not even a fair representation of the side they're representing.

Yeah I saw that. Not surprised; that's been a thing for a while among idiot MAGAs. I'm maybe the tiniest bit surprised at one of them being quite so brazen about being so gratuitous and intentional about it.

My politics are pretty much what they've always been: center-right, libertarian-leaning, pragmatist.

...but I just can't see how I vote for any Republican in the foreseeable future. I would love to, but it would have to be someone who (a) denounces Trump and (b) isn't detached from basic reality (i.e., even if someone anti-Trump came along who disbelieved in evolution, climate change, vaccines/COVID, 2020/etc election, etc).

Fidelity to the rule of law (historically a principle issue I've had with Democrats) and having good enough judgment about basic facts to not fall prey to all sorts of half-baked mis/dis-information (and enough integrity to not know better but act contrary to it) is just a foundational baseline that has to be cleared before we can even worry about other basic stuff like policy and ideology, let alone executive competency and messaging.

Acceptable (let alone good) Republicans are almost exotically rare at this point--and that's from the perspective of a right-leaning, rural raised, business-oriented, capitalist to the bone, career military officer, with an arsenal of guns, who makes enough money to not benefit from Dem vote-buying.

It's a sad state of affairs.

^Will a hot mic / hidden camera count as public?

^^Why is this reasoned reaction to the current state of affairs so exceedingly rare among the Republican electorate?

I mean...at this point, they're pretty much all gone. Romney, but he's about to be gone.

Asa Hutchinson, Bill Cassidy, and Larry Hogan, I guess. Sens Collins and Murkowski. Ben Sasse if he got back into politics. I'm not an expert on them, and I'd have my issues with them (mostly by being more moderate than them, although occasionally holding a position to their right), but as the only acceptable right-of-center figures around, I'll take them.

I can't really think of anyone else with any sort of national profile who wouldn't be an immediate non-starter.

Jon Huntsman would be excellent if he got back into politics. James Mattis is pretty opaque on policy positions outside of defense and security stuff, and I don't think he'd run for office, but I think he'd be great.

^might want to do some googling on Sasse. Looks like he got in a pissing match with UF Board of Trustees and now he’s probably going to be the fall guy for all of the Desantis Administration's higher education failures. Of course, Sasse tripling his office budget and extending do nothing $400k positions to his former aides in DC doesn’t help his case.

Huntsman was solid. Ambassador to China during Obama's administration and Ambassador to RUSSIA during Trump's. That's crazy. Also appreciate his willingness to criticize the Republican party long before MAGA took over.
