Library story times for the younger crowd. Even if it says like 12-18 months, you can take your 10 month old and won't be the only one. Same goes for Barnes and Noble story time. Five years ago there was a mommy and me fitness class that met at Cary Towne Center before the stores opened. Even if it still doesn't meet, I use to see a fair number of moms there early like 9 am walking and stuff.

I would love to carry the 10 month old I watch somewhere further than places I can walk to, but he really enjoys the hour every morning (and sometimes hour in the afternoon) we spend out. I try to change up our route and hit different places. Bedford has at least 3 different parks that I have found and several different water features with seating around them. And sometimes we get to watch park drama like kids that aren't being paid attention to by their moms and gossipy moms and kids that have run away and then their mom shows up and tears them a new asshole in front of every one.

For those of you with kids already how many of the old wives tales gender predictors worked out?

Chinese Calendar says I'm having a boy and the heart rate calculator says I'm having a girl. Everyone on my husband's side thinks I'm having a boy because they all have boys, my side doesn't really have any input. They just want a baby.

My mother swears that you're more likely to have a girl if the woman does not orgasm during the sex and more likely to have a boy if she does. It sounds crazy but there's logical reasoning behind it having to do with the differences in X and Y sperm motility. In my case, she was right.

My mom is usually dead on with reproductive advice. I followed her advice to get pregnant the first time every time. I also used her advice on timing sex and orgasm to favor a girl over a boy. I was pretty dead set on a girl the second time around.

And btw, it is not all old wives' tales. Some of them have been validated by science. I remember reading recently about some research which showed preference for one gender over the other based on whether the mother had a starchy meal that day or not earlier in the day. I don't remember the exact details, but y'all can look it up if you are interested. And some of the other approaches also have some science behind them.

I've heard that if you have a relatively easy pregnancy (no nausea/bloating etc) then you are going to have a boy.

I had little to no nausea with my pregnancy and had a boy. Also they said that if you carry high, then you are having a girl. But I carried high (and really high, I mean my kid never dropped) and had a boy.

Yes, other people definitely have their opinions and are shocked when I tell them I don't know and I don't really have a preference. I've taken care of more girls so I feel like that may be easier, but I'm watching a 9 month old boy now and he seems to be super easy. My husband says it is a boy because "Chenoweths only make boys" and he wants a boy because then he only has to worry about one penis. If we have a girl he has to worry about all the other penises.

And tell your husband you have no way to know that your potential son won't have penises in him or that your potential girl won't be a lesbian.

It's way better to just accept it that someone will be fucking your children at some point in their lives. It's a terrible terrible fact of life.

I was born with a lot of hair too. Everyone thought I was older than I was because of it and it never fell out. I dont know about my mom having excessive heartburn or not though; she was pregnant so I'm betting she probably did.

Henry waves now and says "mama" and "dada" all the time

Its amazing how much they pick up from just watching/listening

When we enter his room to change his diaper, we always turn the light on with the lightswitch. He now leans over in my arms to flip the switch on himself. He also loves switching it off when we leave. When the lights go on/off, he giggles and claps his hands.

Babies...they are pretty cool

The little one I watch now just learned to clap a couple weeks ago and now he claps for everything. He especially enjoys clapping for himself if he thinks he has done something good or clapping for other kids at the park. He is pulling up on everything and can walk if he is holding on to something. It has made our park visits a bit less relaxing but definitely more fun. He makes a lot of noises but I can't tell if he has actually said any words. He might have said some version of the word "quack" when I was singing the 6 little ducks song and he is constantly babbling dadadadadadada. His parents think he is trying to say Dada, but I think it is just an easy sound for him to make. Either way he is still pretty cool.

Would anyone be interested in a TWW parents Facebook group where we could arrange play dates and meet ups for kids or walks for parents with tiny babies and also share info on community events and other stuff? I will be having my first kid in march and I realized I don't have any local friends with kids except for people I have worked for. I do work with a ten month old now and could do play dates at the parks in his neighborhood.

I did! It's your first baby. Do it. It's a really practical class (at least mine at Rex was) taught by a nurse/doula. You can read a lot of the stuff taught, but the class seemed to cut through all of the crap. It's an opportunity to meet other parents due around the same time, compare notes, ask questions. It also gets dad involved and orients him to his role. And since I took the class at the hospital I gave birth at, it was super helpful because it was tailored to the standard practices at their hospital and helped me feel at ease. Even once I knew I'd have a c section, we still finished the classes.

But someone who actually labored should also chime in on the usefulness of the class. It did seem like something only first timers did. I didn't do it the second time and don't think anyone in our class wasnt a first time parent.

yes. i know being a dad it might be different, but i'm home with madelyn in the afternoons and during the summer. we also have another coming in Feb and i'm always looking for opportunities to socialize with similar aged kids/parents. (our neighborhood doesn't really have that many similar aged kids/parents)
