It sucks for Mccain he had to run against Obama in 2008. He had really high favorability ratings, and probably would have won any other time if he were the nominee. The GOP lost a huge opportunity not running him in 2000. Our political landscape would have been very different now.

I find Obama's numbers in that graphic to be more telling than Romney's.[Edited on September 24, 2012 at 5:03 PM. Reason : -]

I know...I expected GWB's numbers to have taken a similar dive...but somehow his favorability went up!
9/24/2012 5:20:54 PM
Also, Gore.
9/24/2012 5:28:57 PM
Well, he did actually win.

If the election were held today, Obama would have a 95.6% chance of winning:http://fivethirtyeight.blogs.nytimes.com

I know that it sounds crazy, but Romney is prolly the least qualified out of him, Bush, and McCain.

I didn't catch Rush talking about/defending it today, therefore it must not have happened.^ I'm not mocking you, as I too find it hard to imagine that Willard could be that obtuse.
9/24/2012 8:19:01 PM
Haha it did happen just use the googles. I would say that idiots cant be elected preaident, but u never know
9/24/2012 8:28:49 PM
That is a dumb thing to say.

This is a Presidential race. You can't expect lawyers and businessmen to know about science.
9/24/2012 10:56:19 PM
Not expecting him to write out schroedingers equation, but he should have basic critical thinking skils.
9/24/2012 11:00:30 PM
I don't really expect an old man who's been a politician for years to know why a plane window can't be opened.
9/24/2012 11:01:18 PM
I do. It's pretty fucking obvious for anyone who has taken a middle school science class. And I don't want the president deciding any kind of policy while not knowing something as simple as this. The president is supposed to be the absolute best that America can put forward and mitt Romney is clearly not that person nor does he come anywhere close. [Edited on September 24, 2012 at 11:45 PM. I'm not disputing that Romney shouldn't be president. But merely wishing his wife could open an airplane window as a fire was building inside during an emergency landing doesn't really demonstrate this.
9/24/2012 11:48:49 PM
^^exactly. Its like me asking why martha stewarrt got in trouble for insider trradiing. U cant use theexcuae that he is nt a scientist.
9/25/2012 12:05:14 AM
There are smaller private planes that have openable windows. It's not too far fetched for him to wonder why jets don't also have the same...There are plenty of things to mock Romney for than what should be an innocuous statement, it just looks desperate when you pick on the irrelevant things. It's like the right pretending that the TelePrompTer things is a real issue for Obama, or pointing out the way he wears a flag pin.The real test is how he reacts to why the plane is built the way it is. If he does what he did when asked about the 47% comment, or what he's doing now when asked why his campaign is in shambles, then he's dumber than i give him credit for.[Edited on September 25, 2012 at 12:12 AM. I don't actually understand the science behind why some planes don't have windows that open. But it is commonsense. And there are three different very uninformed lines of thinking that would prevent a person from making those remarks:1) Realize you don't know anything about the subject and keep your mouth shut until you can get to a book.2) Realize there's no way you've stumbled on a potential "problem" in planes that hasn't already been considered by hundreds of thousands of actual aerospace experts.3) Realize that opening a window on a plane 35,000 feet up in the air and going 500 miles per hour would likely do something undesirable. It's dumb to fail at number 3. It's arrogant to fail at number 2. And it's just bad politics to drop the ball on number 1. It reminds me of the apocryphal (but perceptive) story about GWB actually remarking out loud that Brazil has black people too.[Edited on September 25, 2012 at 12:21 AM. Reason : ]

But politicians, especially presidents, are rarely experts in any field, other than politics. They routinely bloviate about topics which they have only memorized a few bits of information about in order to give a speech on.Does anyone really think Obama knows anything about the machinations of the health an insurance industry? Or how the economic system works? Or knows details about military strategy? Has he studied the nuances of the Mexican drug gangs to make a decision on best ways to fight that war?He has to get all his ideas from his advisors. The people advising Romney are obviously incompetent, but this seems like something more off-the-cuff, and to me, isn't too for someone of his stature to say (assuming he admits it was dumb to say, after being apprised of why).IOW, just give him a break. It'll make you look more gracious the next time he really puts his foot in his mouth.[Edited on September 25, 2012 at 12:28 AM. Reason : ]

It's the internet. I mean, I'm not going to call my friend and be like, "OMG, did you hear what Romney said about planes?!? LOLOLOL, WHAT AN IDIOT!"But, yes, I do think Obama does understand health insurance, the economy, drug cartels, etc... That's his job, dude.
9/25/2012 12:40:48 AM
I think you're giving him too much credit. Do you think even he read the entire healthcare bill? I bet he doesn't even know all the aspects of it. but I don't expect him too-- it's too large an item for a single person who has other things to do to really know (it was written by a committee of experts for a committee of experts). He probably knows the important or relevant bits for campaigning, then moves on to the next thing. It's just like how my boss doesn't know exactly how I do the things I do, he just knows that I do them, then asks me enough questions to talk about it in meetings with the higher ups. It would be unreasonable for him to know the details of my work beyond the surface, let alone the details of all the people that work under him.He hasn't yet shown himself to be a wonk or true philosopher of politics, I don't really believe he knows the depth of very many issues. He must delegate these aspects to is advisors/czars.[Edited on September 25, 2012 at 12:53 AM. Reason : ]

I think Obama is familiar enough with most significant policies to be able to hold a candid conversation and explain his reasoning for thinking a certain way. He could probably also give you a basic rundown of why opening the window of a jet plane is a bad idea.
9/25/2012 1:03:20 AM
Ha. Okay.

Paul Ryan: ‘Do you want Barack Obama to be re-elected? Then don’t vote for Ron Paul.’
9/25/2012 2:01:02 AM
Also, the sky is blue and grass is green.Ryan is pretty much stating a fact. The people voting Ron Paul as a write-in likely otherwise would be voting Romney. What's wrong with saying it?** this plane thing is just noise. let it go..[Edited on September 25, 2012 at 8:00 AM. Reason : X]

^ I'm on the fence between writing in Ron Paul or voting Obama....just sayin'.
9/25/2012 8:24:08 AM
The people who would likely vote for Ron Paul aren't likely to vote for Romney or Obama, no matter what. By an large, if you've gone down that road far enough to like Ron Paul, you've got plenty of reason not to like Romney
9/26/2012 12:30:59 AM
I'd vote for Paul if he were in the race.

Their only hope is taking away voter registration cards.
9/28/2012 10:08:39 AM
