conspiracy theory: tom cruise becomes a "believer" and starts wooing katie holmes.
conclusion: "war of the worlds" has to be a shitty picture. tom cruise has converted and given another superficial proposal to hog Batman's movie press.
i for one will not be seeing the movie (i.e. war of the worlds) to object to this bad press game.

^didn't know.
another note: Batman Begins was amazing. it's difficult to find a good action movie through all of the hollywood rubble, but this movie was true quality. it broke a lot of trends from the previous films (i.e. a batmobile that kicks ass).
definitely going to see it again.
and i believe spielberg is losing his touch with science fiction. haven't seen him produce anything good since AI, which didn't have a lot of non-kubric fans anyway.

He's only directed three movies between A.I. and WAR OF THE WORLDS. Only one of those was science fiction (MINORITY REPORT), and I'd rank that as one of the better science fiction movies in recent years. And CATCH ME IF YOU CAN is probably one of my favorite Spielberg movies. Only THE TERMINAL is below what I'd expect quality-wise from a Spielberg movies. So yeah, I'm not really sure what you're talking abut.6/24/2005 10:18:09 AM |

at one point he said he'd felt similar effects before, but never as potent as the weaponized form, so presumably he let lucius know what the flower was...?
in any case i just thought that plot hole was a little more central to the plot, and it was funny i hadn't noticed it earlier...
i have no problem suspending disbelief for movies, but this is the kind of thing i would normally notice, and didn't this time.... probably cos i was already letting a few things slide

What would you rather it have been? Where's he gonna get a custom ass batmobile that quickly without someone figuring out that he's batman. He had to order parts of his mask separately so that no one would figure it out. A badass batmobile it a bit harder to but together on your own.6/24/2005 10:57:21 PM |

just got back and i loved it. as much as i would probably like the sequel, i think this can stand by itself. the hinting of the joker at the end was cool, but it seems a little superfluous if they're gonna make another movie. of course my friend didn't like it as much because he's still attached to michael keaton (still my favorite, but this is a close 2nd).
as for the antidote thing, didn't morgan freeman say something about analyzing wayne's blood and about how hard it was? i assume the drug could've been extracted from that 6/25/2005 12:32:36 AM |
horrorshow All American 695 Posts user info edit post |
yes. sean penn is a douche. someone mentioned crispin glover earlier--the ideal joker in my opinion.
and i agree on the camera work. it was almost as if they didn't have any confidence that bale could pull off the manygoonsatatime trick. should've seen him in Equilibrium. 6/25/2005 12:51:26 AM |
CharlieEFH All American 21806 Posts user info edit post |
equilibrium probably got him the job--every fight scene involves him fighting 5+ guys at a time
the camera work was probably done to make it feel like you're there with all the action and confusion of a fight, i didn't mind it, and it wasn't that hard to follow. for camera work like that you just gotta pay attention instead of sitting there concentrating on putting the popcorn in your mouth 6/25/2005 12:56:00 AM |
theone Suspended 694 Posts user info edit post |
no one said anything about it being hard to follow, or not knowing whats going on. just, that shaking the camera like you have parkinson's disease, diddnt capture the action well in this film. 6/25/2005 1:12:22 AM |

scarecrow's obviously alive because they said crane was still on the loose. as for qui-gon, i kinda doubt it. with the joker being the likely villain, i don't see how they'd fit him in. its kinda like katie holmes' character: she served her purpose, so now they can broom her. same with al ghul 6/25/2005 1:23:52 AM |

Ra's can simply be there to spook Batman. I mean, even in the cartoon, it wasn't like Batman was always out to get him...he typically waited for Ra's to try taking over the world before he went to stop him. He can simply show himself, and in essence, he can look legendary at the same time. He could even assist the Bats just for kicks. Ra's can be "satisfied", that Gotham can be saved and he'll turn his attention to something else. 6/25/2005 1:39:34 AM |

Try explaining the concept of the Lazarus pit to a Divinity student who hasn't ever read a comic book (or even watched a cartoon for that matter...you know, nerd stuff)...it's fun because he can't stop thinking about the implications of comparing Ra's to Lazarus.6/25/2005 11:50:12 AM |
