dropped passes and dumb penalties kept that from being a complete blow out. since when does paul johnson punt on 4th and 1?

Since the game was close and UNC had already stopped them on some short yardage situations in the game.

UNC has a weak secondary and a young QB who can make mistakes...but that's about it.

Their DL, LBs, RB (Bernard is a stud), OL, and WRs are all well above average. You can put points on them because of their weak secondary, but they will put them right back with their offense.

Oh...and Withers is a better coach than Davis. Which isn't saying much...Withers made some dumb moves today.

ATLANTA – No. 24 North Carolina charged back from a 14-point deficit in the final stanza to tie No. 25 Georgia Tech after being outplayed for three quarters, but miscues continued to plague UNC on both sides of the ball as the Yellow Jackets escaped with a 35-28 victory on Saturday."

just flew back from the atlanta .. my observations

1) GT's sound system and video board are top notch

2) Shoop did great for the 1st series, then went brain dead .. typical

3) Renner's INT's were really, really poor , triple coverage once and

4 men around the ball on that first one

4) Where were our DE's at ???

5) Did not see any 2nd half adjustments at all

6) Still can't believe Ron Cherry has a job

7) From my seats, the 15-20 yards out were open all day long

8) THat pass DJ caught on our last drive was there all day long

9) The hot dogs at Varsity really aren't all that

10 ) Im slightly worried about next week ... but at leat we didn't quit like Raleigh did Thursday night"

The only time I will ever cheer for the Pirates is when they are pillaging the Tar Holes.

"The Football Gods Chortled: In last season's Music City Bowl, North Carolina appeared defeated when, trailing Tennessee 20-17 with a few seconds remaining in regulation, the Tar Heels were trying to spike the ball to set up a field-goal attempt, but were caught with too many men on the field. Officials initially signaled the game over. Replay showed there was illegal procedure against North Carolina, but one second at the spike. Tennessee had little choice but to accept the penalty, which stopped the clock and enabled North Carolina to set up its kicking unit. (Declining the penalty also would have stopped the clock.) The Tar Heels hit the field goal, and went on to win in overtime.

Because of this outcome, during the offseason, the NCAA changed its rules to match the NFL rule. In college, like in the pros, a pre-snap foul against the offense in the final minute of a half now causes 10 seconds to be run off the clock. This rule would have resulted in a North Carolina loss in its bowl against Tennessee.

Flash forward to Saturday, and North Carolina trails Georgia Tech 35-28 in the waning seconds, Tar Heels at midfield. As North Carolina spiked the ball to stop the clock with 9 seconds remaining, a Tar Heel was moving before the snap. The 10-second runoff ended the contest. On the plus side for the Tar Heels, they did hold Georgia Tech to 311 yards rushing."

Yeah, but they still end up with a stolen win... it's not like they would have scored with 9 secs left anyways, all it did was save Renner from throwing another pick

Maybe, but it's funny that the final nail in the coffin was a nail that Butch Davis created.

stuff like that happens under the pile all the time in most college and pro games

we just don't normally get good replay looks like that

That's why guys usually cover their balls in the pile (or at least I did way back in hs).

This is a year after Paige-Moss punched a miami player, isn't it?

In the back of the ESPN the Magazine Body Issue the other week, there was even an article that talked about how in the pile, people are going for balls just as much as they are going for the ball.

I still can't get over that 1) most football players don't wear cups, and 2) in 2011, we don't have a better device than we currently have.

I could never run comfortably while wearing a cup for baseball, but yes science should come up with a better solution.

Wow, 5 touchdowns in the 3rd quarter for Clemson. I hope everyone can stop all this talk about UNC's dominating defense now.

Alabama's defense gives up 35 points in a quarter all the time, to good offenses...

(i know one of the TD's was defensive)

Even though I'm talking relative to the other ACC teams LSU (who's d is on a level with only bama) gave up a ton to WVU.

yeah 21 points in the entire game is a ton of points

WVU really lit up the scoreboard

very comparable to 35 points in one quarter

Clemson scored the most points they have scored all year. If UNC is a dominate defense I guess all the other teams Clemson played were "all world" defenses right? What a dumbfuck...

We use one game against an unstopable offense to determine if a defense is good or not itt.

Please tell me 3 defenses in the ACC that are better than UNC's.

Whatever. No unbiased football fan would make such a blanket judgement off of one game. Clemson doesn't have much trouble scoring period. Who they score the most against is a moot point. Call me when UNC starts giving up a lot to other teams.
