Stats aren't how football works mate. I have said it before and it's not an American sport. This stats based ranking is a decent metric but to use it to say x team is the best is simply stupid. PSG and Bayern are both in top 5. That alone is enough to tell you how useful these stats are a metric to rank teams. Chelsea, Madrid and Ajax are in the top 10 as well btw. Chelsea and Madrid being in there alone is laughable.

Dang it is forgot to post how you were def gonna say something about American stats. You think Europeans are so dumb they don't have statisticians?

You have absolutely nothing on your side but your own opinions, so I'll take my stats.

I have clearly just said they are useful but not in the context of What you are perpetrating, that these stats are reflective of the actual rankings of these teams. Please go ahead and dig your hole deeper and tell me why PSG, Bayern, Real and Chelsea deserve to be ranked where they are. I can't wait. Surely the 2nd best club team in the world should be making mince pie out of an injury ravaged 18th best team in the world.

What? No not at all. In fact that site only said Liverpool wins that game 53% of the time. Liverpool is only rated about 1 goal better than United right now. And I don't even need to explain the rest I can just use their words:

Quote :
" Soccer is a tricky sport to model because there are so few goals scored in each match. The final scoreline will fairly often disagree with many people’s impressions of the quality of each team’s play, and the low-scoring nature of the sport will sometimes lead to prolonged periods of luck, where a team may be getting good results despite playing poorly (or vice versa)."

Different kind of challenge for Ole. Arsenal we deserved to lose because we didn’t finish our chances and Arsenal was better on tbe break. Today we deserved to lose 100%. Worrying thing for us is that our attackers had no clue in transition today and the commitment wasn’t there. Toughest challenge Ole has faced reacting to wolves.

That said. Credit to wolves. IMO they were absolutely brilliant in their commitment and desire. Two intangibles I didn’t think I would have to worry about under ole. Which is worrying but again as a fan I hope a temporary blip.

Disappointing overall by United. Wolves deserved it.

Hope for United fans this hire isn't like the Dalglish hire. New American owners were beneficial in that moment because they weren't sentimental enough to not pull the trigger when needed. Would be tough for United after so much manager turmoil to do the same if things get rocky next year.

He mostly just needs backing in the transfer market though. But I would ask why would you be comfortable backing a relatively unproven manager if you weren't willing to back Mourinho?

I doubt it. The owners and Ed have always fired a manager when top 4 wasn't possible with the exception of Jose whose toxicity got him the axe. Ole will get next year as a scratch I believe given he is United but Ole himself knows that top 4 is minimum.

Yes he needs support in the transfer market and the squad needs to be revamped. CB, RB, RW and Midfield has to be top priority but we need to retain DDG as well. Hoping that some Chinese team buys Sanchez. I mean Ole has earned more trust than Jose has given the way we have played and our points tally since Ole came on. If he can do that with Jose' squad then he can certainly do that with some better players. I don't expect to win a title the first year but I do expect to be in the top 4 given outgoings and incomings.

I think the only thing that may keep Spurs in Top 4 will be if the get a boost playing at WHL as 5 of their last 7 are at WHL.

After yesterday's lucky result (which should have been completely unnecessary) against Cardiff coupled with their remaining games against top 6 are away Chelsea will finish 6th. I think Arsenal and Spurs will battle for 4th and ManU will take 3rd.

The transfer ban is going to hurt as I believe Hazard is going to force a transfer and they are probably going to lose their 2 most dynamic academy players who both want playing time and don't seem keen on Saari's tactics. Sit Jorginho for a game start Kante in his place, Sit Kovacic and Willian put in Hudson-Odoi and Loftus-Cheek. See if results change, you can possess the ball for 80% of the game but if you are not shooting or getting scoring chances you aren't going to win many games, or your going to rely on a linesman missing a offsides call.

I don't think I'll ever understand Sarri's insistence on playing Kante out of position and his continued dedication to Jorginho.

It boggles the mind.

He is too stubborn and it will eventually be his downfall, I just hope he doesn't tear the club down with him. The transfer ban will most certainly set the club back 2-3 years especially with summer exits.

God city and Liverpool runout are almost identical. If you split up tiers of top 6, next 6, next 5, relegation 3 then

Pool has
1,1,3,1
City has
2,1,3,1

And the home and away are also identical!

The one outlier: city away to United.......

I wouldn’t put us favorites for 3rd. We have one of the toughest run ins with city and Chelsea still to come. Watford away tomorrow is another massive game. 3 points there and I am a bit more confident. I think 4th is more realistic. We were in such a massive hole before OGS came in that just being in the conversation is impressive. I think Arsenal most likely finishes 3rd with 4th coming down to the best of the other three.

United Fixtures:
@Wolves - 1 point
West Ham - 3 points
@Everton - 3 points
Man City - 0 points
Chelsea - 3 points
@Hudderfield - 3 points
Cardiff - 3 points

Total: 16 points ; 77 points overall

Arsenal Fixtures:
@Everton
@Watford
Crystal Palace
@Wolves
@Leicester City
Brighton
@Burnley

5 of the next 7 matches are away. Arsenal has 44 points at home and 19 away so how is their nerve. Assuming they win the two matches at home and keep their average away form (1.35 points per match, giving them a total of 6.7 or 7 points away) their total would be 13 points ; 76 points total. Arsenal need to pick up 3 away wins in 5 IMO.

Tottenham Fixtures:
Crystal Palace
Huddersfield
@Man City
Brighton
West Ham
@Bournemouth
Everton

New home stadium should give them a boost with 5 of their next 7 at home. Opposite problem to Arsenal but they look absolutely woeful at the moment. Can't see them winning against City but I think they win 5 out of 7, draw one. 16 points ; 77 total. GD is going to be crucial.

Chelsea Fixtures
Brighton
West Ham
@Liverpool
Burnley
@Man United
Watford
@Leicester

Assuming they win their matches at home, draw to leicester and lose to pool and United they would be at 13 points ; 73 overall. Their match against United is essentially a 6 pointer.

I think 78 points whoever gets there will guarantee a top 4 finish but looking like 76 or 77 is what the 4 other teams should be aiming for. Goal Difference is going to be huge. Arsenal and Chelsea won't be helped by the fact that they have Thursday fixtures and essentially have to play the last matches of the weekend following those. Crazy top 4 race this year. Chelsea would do well to prioritize Europa IMO. I am hoping both Arsenal and Chelsea get past to the semi's which I think would mean Tottenham/United should get a boost as I think both of us will be out of Europe after the next round.

haha. Honestly if we can win 5 out of 7 then I don't mind losing to City at all. Don't get me wrong under normal circumstance I would absolutely want to beat city but if that means Pool winning the title then please let them win. It would be just after Gerrard gifted Chelsea a goal 12 years ago.

Players are professional though and as long as we take care of business elsewhere I think we can get top 4. Honestly the next three matches are massive for us. Win all three and then we just need to ensure we beat Chelsea. If we lose either of the Huddersfield or Cardiff matches then we don't deserve top 4.

interesting tactical tweak from Ole today. I am very glad to see Matic benched for McTominay. I think Matic was screaming to be rested in that Watford match two days ago.

I really really like Dalot on the right wing. Our attack is non existent on that side and with Dalot in his pace and crossing are up to par and should stretch wolves. Unfortunate Rash picked up a knock or illness but Lukaku is capable and it gets him some rest before Barca. Only thing I don't agree with is Jesse for Martial but Martial was also off the pace two days ago so can't blame him for changing it up. There is a lot of energy on the counter in this team and I hope the fresh legs can see us through.

United worst form in the league (other than bottom 2) over last 3 games!! 4 l's in a row in all competitions!! The honeymoon is over!?!?

In all seriousness, how bad would the rest of the season have to be to fire Ole. That would be very funny to my bitter and obsessed brain.

^ that's not true, they beat Watford. Only way he wouldn't come back is if they lost every single game the rest of the season.

I really hope City drop points at some point in the next 3 games so I don't have to 100% cheer for those losers.

Lmao one loss, where I predicted we'd struggle anyway, and its the end of the world. Funnily enough we actually played really well and should have been 2 or 3 up by the 20th minute. Then we gifted them a goal and scored an own goal after Young had a brain fart. Literally everything that happened yesterday goals wise was on us. Much rather lose that way than play like shit and lose.

Ole can lose every match from here on and out and still not get fired. It simple the squad has weaknesses still and we need to back him in the transfer market. Ole is the right man to rebuild a team around and he will get the time in my opinion. United needs to go back to our roots instead of signing mercenary galacticos like Pogba. Before anyway says I am changing my opinion on Pogba I have never done that and maintained that his attitude and commitment are still an issue. 3 months of good form doesn't change that.

Also LMAO at you lot needing us to do you a favor. Don't worry, pool will do themselves a favor a pull an annual bottle job.

yea it evened out after the first 20 min but wolves never really threatened or create any chances. United had maybe 2 or 3 more between minutes 20 and 70 but they were basically hit straight at Rui and he made some great reaction saves. Then the red card happened right around the time we were gearing up to attack them in the final 15 min and that destroyed our game plan. TBF to Ashley Young he was given a ball in no mans land but he was already on a yellow and should have known better than to lunge in to win the ball back. He isn't a young kid.

Regardless win 5 of 6 and I think we are in the top 4. Hopefully that one loss is to Man City.

Doing my best to update the top 4 race but after this past weekend's fixtures I think its really heating up. Ole said 76 points is the marker and I believe him. Its some very fine margins and referring decisions/goal difference might just decide those two final spots. I think everyone is expecting Spurs to bottle it but their fixtures are probably the easiest left. It really is fine margins for United and Chelsea. Arsenal are lost away from home and you have to say unless they buck that trend its a tough fixture list away from home. Beating Watford and Wolves away from home is their ticket to finishing top 4 IMO. I am hoping they progress past Napoli just to distract them from the other fixtures. Chelsea really should be focusing on winning the EL to get an automatic ticket in. Unlikely to happen but imagine one of United or Tottenham winning the CL / Chelsea or Arsenal winning the EL. Whoever finishes 4th is absolutely fucked in that scenario assuming that the above mentioned winners would prioritize the CL/EL and drop out of the top 4.

United Fixtures:
West Ham - 3 points
@Everton - 1 point
Man City - 0 points
Chelsea - 3 points
@Hudderfield - 3 points
Cardiff - 3 points

Total: 13 points ; 74 points overall

Arsenal Fixtures:
@Watford - 1 point
Crystal Palace - 3 points
@Wolves - 0 points
@Leicester City - 1 point
Brighton - 3 points
@Burnley - 3 points

Total: 11 points ; 74 overall

Tottenham Fixtures:
Huddersfield - 3 points
@Man City - 0 points
Brighton - 3 points
West Ham - 1 point
@Bournemouth - 3 points
Everton - 3 points

Total: 13 points ; 77 overall

Chelsea Fixtures
West Ham - 3 points
@Liverpool - 0 points
Burnley - 3 points
@Man United - 0 points
Watford - 1 point
@Leicester - 3 points

Total: 10 points ; 73 points

would be 7 years each at Mainz, BVB and Liverpool. No problem with me. Would likely be time for a new manager to start an overhaul the squad at that point anyway.

I'm just going to enjoy it while he's here because there truly isn't another manager like him in football today.

VAR providing memes since 2019 lmao. Can't believe Ageuro missed that, what a shit peno.

Announcers going on and on about that not being a peno but just like Kimbembe you can't put your arm in an unnatural position. The rule needs to be rewritten on handball. By the letter of the law that was a clear handball.

9 points from 6 matches? And dropping points the last 3 matches where 2 are at the new ground and 1 is derby? Yeah, I don't think so.

We literally just beat the hardest remaining league team on our schedule last night, and won 8 straight without Kane just a few weeks back. At least give Poch and the club a shred of respect. Even the biggest pessimist wouldn't have us only collecting 9 points the rest of the way.

538 has
Spurs 76
Chelsea 74
Arsenal 74 (coin flip who gets 4th)
United 71

Their numbers for Spurs are actually close to Wazza but they give way more credit vs West Ham and a tad more vs Everton and Bourne

Chelsea/LC leans more towards LC

I think now that Spurs have proven they're good enough to beat Manchester City, they should throw the away leg so they can focus on beating them in the league fixture which is more important to their fans and their legacy.
