I need help buying a car. I have gone to several used car lots, craigslist, and dealerships and I am at a loss. Today I took a car that had unibody mainframe damage to the mechanic to look at because I wanted the car. When I took it back to the dealership they acted shocked. I asked for the Carfax and it was on it. These people are scam artists.

Basically I keep getting crappy cars (needs axle work, bad accident fix job, etc)


This are the specs:

I want a good commuting car(ie ~30mpg) with hopefully less than 120K mile on it. One that is fairly well maintained (ie will not get a bad mechanic's report).

I have between 3-6k to spend.

Whoa, a 1948 Crosley. I've never actually seen one of these. RWD and 1000lbs curb weight. Racers in the 50's could get 80hp out of the cast iron 4 bangers. I think '48 still had a block made of sheet metal layered together, whole thing weighed fourteen! pounds.


If this had the hood/fenders I'd be all over it.

When a car is covered in shit like that, I tend to stay away from it. The dude didn't even try to make it look decent in the photos so he probably doesn't give a fuck about it IMO. The thing that gets me is that he was too fucking lazy to remove the leaves before taking the photo. That kind of shit demonstrates that he's not that serious about selling the car. Well, or it indicates that he's a stupid fuck.

Some people may actually care about their car mechanically even though they don't care about how it looks. But more than 9 times out of 10, when shit looks shitty, it is shitty.

a good friend of mine has an AE86 that he wouldnt mind selling.. shitty carb'd engine, auto trans, slow as dirt.. but its original (unmolested).. has a couple dents and crap, the worst one from some jackass he let borrow the car for a day or two... dash lighting is quirky (i think its the switch).. dont remember exactly how many miles but its not even close to 100k yet.
