my next door neighbor got an i3. Pretty nice overall. The interior definitely keeps with the futuristic space-age aesthetic as the exterior. I wouldn't say that's a bad thing, just different. Also, not having been in other plug-ins besides a Tesla, it's hard to compare.

It is roomier inside than it looks. As a guy over 6' tall, I did not feel cramped at all.

tl;dr - If you live in the eastern half of the country your EV is polluting more than an equivalent gasoline powered vehicle.

Which is precisely why I don't mention the green reason in one of the many reasons to buy an electric car. I can show you at least 4 other studies that contradict that. Good thing that electric cars have a lot of benefits, without even needing to go down that street. I blame the left for carrying the 'green energy' banner while promoting cars to enrage the right to hate them.

^^ it's fine for the purpose of that study if you assume that those costs are already captured up to that point and are trying to determine economic impacts from that point forward, you just can't use it to justify an overall harm or benefit

i think you are better off installing a nema 6-50 plug in the wall and buying a charger such as a clipper creek or any of the other cheaper chargers - realistically that will future proof you for at least a while as only tesla will be able to max out 50A currently - most chargers in cars today are 6.6kWh but who knows where that will go in the next 5-10 years

Thanks, that makes sense. Any advantage to using 6-50 versus 14-50? 14-50 is an RV hookup, right? So potentially I could take the charger with me and plug into RV sites, if needed. Good point on future-proofing...wonder if I shouldnt go ahead and install a 100A breaker for higher draws in the future. [Edit] Nevermind, I dont see any 80A chargers right now. Ill just make sure the wiring gauge is enough to handle 100A so I can just replace the breaker and charger in the future.

14-50 is fine as well - they make chargers that will plug in to both - the only 80a charger on the market today will be for a tesla - everyone else is playing catchup still unless you possibly count the limited usage of dc fast

Thanks. Are you in the Raleigh area and have an EV? If so, did you need a permit and inspection to install a new outlet/charging station? What are you driving? Im looking at the i3 but open to other suggestions.

Atlanta but you don't need a permit to add a wall outlet anywhere I thought. The biggest potential expense is likely if your current fuse box doesn't have enough available power and to add more requires bringing other parts of your electrical up to current code

You need an electrical permit in Raleigh (you actually also need one in Atlanta)

It's almost impossible for you to get caught not pulling a permit, but IMO $80 is worth it for another set of eyes to make sure you didn't hire a shit electrician

Believe it or not, CarZin is Voltless! Traded it in after 4 awesome years and nearly 80k miles for a 2 year lease on a BMW i3. I am hoping for an affordable Crossover is going to be available, or certainly larger sedan, in 2018. Then I'll be back to owning.

I will tell you that you have virtually zero risk with a Volt battery. I could get into specifics, but these cars are an absolute steal less than 15k. Your pack will last well past 100k. If it does happen to lose more than 30% capacity inside of 8 years/100k miles, GM replaces it. After owning one, there is nothing that would stop me from buying a used Volt.

You can charge it on 110 - doesn't have to be 220. If you can't charge it at least nightly I'd recommend against it though.

I think I'm going to get a 2012 CT200h. The Prius seems like a practical choice but after driving it I didn't feel anything. It felt kinda soul less. I haven't driven a Volt yet though mainly because I cannot stand Chevy interiors.

I drove a CT200h and thought it was without soul (kind of on par with a 2009 Elantra, but with a nicer interior).

I hear the BMW i3 is awesome...

I drove someone's CT200 last week for 200 miles. Didn't like it. The volt is vastly superior.

Thanks to you guys I'm considering selling my 09 e93 335i and my 02 Solara and getting a 2013 Volt. I'll probably keep the Volt for 3 years and then buy a Tesla Model 3 which should be on the used market by then hopefully.

Awesome It is a great car and you'll love it. Make sure you get a very good deal on it. My 2012 loaded Volt with 76k miles is for sale at Leith. You would probably get it around 11k. I think a well options 2013 should be around 15k.

We just got rid of our last year. It was a great car. Wouldn't have gotten rid of it except my mother (a landscape architect) had gotten it stuck 3 times on construction sites due to the low ground clearance. I was super lucky to get her a volvo xc40 recharge 3 days before the tax credit disappeared. She loved the volt though just needed the ground clearance. The volvo is super so far.
