the lady diagonal from me everytime she gets up slams her chair into the guy sitting next to me - drives him batshit insane. She also has this weird sniffing thing that sounds like she's blowing a snot rocket. She has this really irritating voice that makes me naseous in the morning . . you know that little lady from Poultergeist? "carol ann! carol ann!" she sounds just like that all. day. long. How about the fellow airhead worker you're training to take over some of your responsibilities only to have them tell you how stupid you've been doing the job while you're still training them?
So this is how you do this. "There's no other way to do this?" No. "Well, who came up with this stupid stuff?" That would be me. "Oh, could you show me again?" This is the fifth time. "But I still don't get it, that's why I said it was stupid."

^^Perfect example of the lady next to me here. Yesterday she laughs and keeps saying "oh, thats hilarious... oh, wow thats crazy" until someone asks her so she can talk for fucking 30 minutes. She also does the same thing when something goes wrong, and starts with "oh my god I can't believe this... Are you serious?... I am going to kill this computer..."
Same lady: leans over her cubicle every morning when im havin my bagel and says "good morning greg! what are you doing?" Eating my breakfast and trying not to talk until 10am, thank you. 6/7/2007 8:03:08 AM |

from coworkers: - not completely filling out forms - incorrectly filling out forms - not answering the phone, when you're sitting right next to it - talking on your cell phone when we clearly have customers who need help - lying to customers/making false promises just to sell a treadmill
from customers (this could probably be its own thread): - not listening/reading. 90% of all issues could probably be resolved from this one. - not disciplining your kids - leaving trash on the floor - not putting things back where you got it. Weather Observer. Right now we have the building to ourselves but they have been talking about renting out the other offices for like two years now. The only time I have to talk to anyone is NWS (National Weather Service) in Raleigh or Raleigh Fight Services if the observations aren't getting out or to the tower if they have some kind of low visibility that isn't at the surface.
Could be worse. At RDU they work in the tower and have to be all dress casual and junk. 6/7/2007 9:41:29 AM |

having to log into sametime at all, when im completely convinced it's nothing more than a check system for the boss to tell when you got in... in 12 months ive gotten all of 4 sametime messages, 3 from the admin. assistant reminding me about a meeting with my manager, and one from my office neighber making a joke about how ridiculous sametime is.
i mean, if anyone else used it, it'd be ok, but everyone at every plant site i work with uses aim, so having 2 messaging programs running is just silly and overkill.
and on that note, having aim blocked when 90% of IT, corp. engineering, and most technical site people use it all day long, everyone in north america filtering through the same euro proxy where it's not blocked.
on antoher related note, peopel who use their personal aim name for business.

Yea the talking through the walls drives me crazy. We have individual offices, so if you want to talk at length with me come into my office and stand in the door frame like everyone else does.
Also people who don't adhere to the dress code. Not that we have one a definite one per say, but don't wear golf shirts when everyone else has long sleeved shirts on.

I used to work next to a coop who would not only check his vmail on speakerphone but he would use speakerphone for every conversation he had. 90% of the calls he made were to his friend who worked 5 cubes down. They would frequently watch dvds with the sound turned up.
Aside from him...
E-mail chains between two people who keep ccing a dozen other groups. People who cc our boss on everything. People who never take their printouts from the printer. People who never change their sametime status to away. People who ignore my sametimes. People who make jokes, then laugh at them, and sometimes beat the table with their hands because they think they are so fucking funny. People who steal my yogurt. People who want me to do their jobs for them. People who want me to do stuff not even remotely related to my jobs duties. 4 foot cubicles People who schedule meetings 1 hour in advance. People who schedule meetings during lunchtime. People who turn the TV to Fox News People who turn the TV to the country music channel People who clip their nails People who clear their throats every 10 minutes People who talk at 150 decibles People who page me at midnight 1024X768 resolution People who steal the fooseballs People who unplug the airhockey table People who break the pool cues 6/7/2007 10:26:20 AM |

heh, sounds like your network folks have a little security hole.
but sametime is much better in a corporate environment if implemented correctly -- i.e. using ldap. rather than having separate accounts for email and sametime (believe it or not, some companies do this), and not everyone has AIM, and even so, if you need to contact someone that you don't personally know, you are you going to get their screen name? That and AIM is inherently insecure since data has to leave the corporate network, so any information sharing that's company confidential is at risk over AIM.
but certainly it all goes back to how deeply electronic collaboration is entrenched into a corporate culture....6/7/2007 10:35:43 AM |

we have this dude who thinks every commercial, tv show, stand up bit, every thing that was intended to be funny is basically THE MOST funny thing he's even seen/heard in his life. so he talks about it for a couple of hours, laughs, tries to entice someone to come look at it but everybody ignores him. finally he sends an email out with a link to the commercial or whatever on youtube. then he walks to your desk, makes you open it and watch it.
and it's not funny
in the least
then he proceeds to do impressions of it for the rest of they day and cracks up about it everytime.
this guy forwards basically every false/fake email on snopes to everyone and swears on his life that it's real. then when you show him that it's not he claims it's a liberal conspiracy cover-up thing...no matter what the topic was.
--------- we also have the chick that forwards all of the "if you don't send this to 7 people incl the person who sent it to you, god doesn't love you" emails. everyday. 6/7/2007 10:45:44 AM |

There is a girl in my office who keeps like 2-3 vacuums in her office at all times, and uses them frequently. And by "office" I mean an 8x8 cubicle. She also has this "room freshening spray" that she likes to use a lot. Problem is, it doesn't just stay in her cubicle, obviously, and stinks up the entire room. When confronted about it, she just says that no one ever complains about it and then continues using it. GRRRRR 6/7/2007 11:02:29 AM |

yeah it actually could be quite a problem...
hopefully people realize this, but I doubt it....
and yes, we have the completely asanine setup where sametime ISN'T incorporated to the email account..
so,
every monring
open lotus. open ie to a secure portal, with token codes log into sametime.
which, you know is great when you disconnect from your dock to take the laptop to a meeting, and lose connection to the portal, and instead of being able to directly RC to sametime, you have to get compeltely out and reopen a portal instance.
however, sametime meetings are associated through email addresses, just not the messenger.. which doesn't make any sense
only people with access tot he process control firewalls get the secure tokens, and hence, sametime messenger access, so number of users is looowww
and then no directory visibility.
our setup is pretty dumb.
it's my major annoyance.6/7/2007 11:30:21 AM |
