He'd be better off in Green Bay really

Chicago wouldnt be terrible, but they really dont have as good of potential as they did a few years ago.

Minnesota wouldnt be a bad spot at all

they can call him a drama queen all they want, this was the happiest thing i've heard all week.

i totally agree, plus i think he genuinely enjoys playing football (and being a part of the nfl). i just hope he comes back strong...the last thing he needs to to come back and look washed up after last season...although if his playing makes him happy (win or lose), i guess that's cool.

p.s. god, i love brett

He changed his mind like 6 times already this offseason. Favre was gonna un-retire at the end of march, but changed his mind. I don't blame the Packers one bit if they want to move on / not release him.

The problem for the Packers will come if Rodgers falters, though.

miami would be a fucking stupid move.

and people are indecisive. brett favre is no different. i'm sure he had a lot to think about (like what he wants to do vs what's best for him to do and trying to figure out exactly what both of those are). i still think he's awesome and would love to see him back this season. i just hope to god it's not for the dolphins, haha

oh, and i'm not saying i blame the packers for not jumping at the chance to take him back. they've been building/re-building the team since he left - it would be unfair just say "suuuure, you're brett favre" and let him jump right back in there...

Well the thing is with this situation is that the Packers hold all the cards here. If I am part of the front office for the Pack there is no fucking way I release Brett Favre just to see him sign on with a team in my own division like the Vikings or Bears. Unless the Packers are just plain stupid the place Favre should be playing is in Green Bay, or he possibly could be traded, but there is no way the Packers should release him.

I honestly think 50% of the state of Wisconsin's collective minds would explode if their golden boy Brett Favre was to come back and play in the NFL for another team.

I'm all four Brett coming back...I believe a person has a right to change their mind, especially if it is their career and they are fucking good at it. But I believe that person has a duty to his company/team/business to ensure the best for all parties.

Will suck to see Brett end his career with another team. I don't want to see him in Minn b/c I believe T. Jackson has a chance to be a quality QB and they should have a decent team this year. ALthough Brett and Adrian P could be interesting backfield.

Why would it be bad if he lost his job???

There's no way that the Packers would release him so he could sign with the Vikings or Bears.

For the record, I would have absolutely no problem with Favre playing for the Jets.

Otherwise, I hope the Packers hold into him as Aaron Rodgers insurance.

This is the greatest drama of the year right now. Come back as a back-up? ahahah. I wonder what quarter Favre would take over for Rogers in that first game?

yay seriously....

Talk about pressure now.

Rogers had to worry about filling farve's shoes, now he has to worry about keeping his position over him.

If they loose their first game the fans will be calling for farve on the field immediately

T. Jackson is def not the worse QB in the league and has shown some growth with his experience last year. The viks have a decent offense and strong defense. Not saying Jackson will or should go to Pro Bowl, but he is a guy the team can lean on right now. To take Jackson out for a one year shot with Favre would hurt the team in the long run.

And LOL at coming back as a back up...Rodgers will choke in preseason if that is the case.
Bye the way, the worse IMO Brady Croyle, R. Grossman, J. McCown, Trent Green, Leftwich (but not even a starter anymoe), Alex Smith...Granted T. Jackson is marginally better than these guys but hey, at least he is better.

Favre

I think you're greatly underestimating Packers fans. For the past 3 months everyone's been preparing themselves for growing pains under Rodgers. I get the feeling that if there's any call for Rodgers' head, it's going to be led by the media, not the fans.

Clearly they aren't serious about him being a backup.

They are just playing their cards so they can force a trade. They don't want to release him for nothing just to see him screw them over by playing for a team like Minnesota.

like it or not, we judge great athletes on their championships

ie the reason Montana and Brady, among others, will always go down as better QBs than Marino

besides its funny that you mention GM, coach, etc

Favre singlehandledly forces them to change what they're about to do

"Ok we're gonna bring along Rodgers as our QB...nope scratch those 2 months of training, Brett has decided he is unretiring yet again"

I agree, but ranking quarterbacks (or pitchers, or centers, or whatever) is such a subjective thing. Brett Favre is one of the greatest quarterbacks of all-time, anyone denying that is just being a TreeTwista. Whether he's #1 or #10 doesn't matter much to me; he won a ring, a couple MVP trophies, brought the Packers back to life, and made the majority of my life as a pro football fan pretty damn fun.

when have i ever ever ever denied that he was a great qb? damn you need some thicker skin if you cant take legit criticism about your boy favre...btw he's much closer to #10 than #1

also I definitely wouldn't want him in Carolina...5 years ago? hell fucking yes...now? why? So everything I hear about my TEAM next year can be a media frenzy about one player? No thanks

If Delhomme cant go then Favre would be a great addition. The reports on Jake sound good right now though. He was awful two years ago but he looked like he was about to have a huge bounceback season last year.

Favre isn't half the player he used to be, but he is still a viable borderline pro bowl QB and after witnessing the atrocity of David Carr I'd take anyone who resembles a starting QB.

David Carr
Joey Harrington
Kyle Boller

"Rally held to pressure Packers to reinstate Favre

By CARRIE ANTLFINGER, Associated Press Writer
3 hours, 50 minutes ago
Buzz Up

Brett Favre’s fans came to his defense Sunday, rallying outside Lambeau Field to pressure the Green Bay Packers to reinstate him as the starting quarterback.

The crowd of more than 100 chanted “We want Brett,” and carried signs reading, “Favre for President” or “Favre Forever.” Many in the parking lot wore No. 4 jerseys, tossed footballs and grilled.

“We’ve always appreciated the passion of our fans,” the Packers said in a statement. Team spokesman Jeff Blumb said there would be no other comment.

The rally in Green Bay, Wis., was the brainchild of brothers Adam and Erick Rolfson, who on Friday tried to think of a way to keep Favre in Green Bay. Another rally is planned for Monday night in suburban Milwaukee and every Sunday thereafter at Lambeau Field until Favre is back.ADVERTISEMENT

The brothers also are demanding an emergency meeting of stockholders “to help control the fate of our quarterback,” Erick Rolfson said.

A message left for Favre’s agent, James “Bus” Cook, wasn’t immediately returned Sunday.

Favre retired March 6 after 16 seasons with the team. He changed his mind and asked for his release because it appeared the Packers were not receptive to having him play again.

On Saturday, general manager Ted Thompson and coach Mike McCarthy said they didn’t plan to grant Favre’s request. And while Thompson said Favre could rejoin the team in a “different role,” the Packers were committed to going with Aaron Rodgers as their starter.

“We wanted to create a forum for fans’ voices to be heard,” Adam Rolfson, 36, told The Associated Press by phone. “I don’t understand how you deny somebody that threw for 4,000 yards (last season) a starting position. I can think of at least 25 teams in the NFL that would jump at the opportunity to have Brett Favre be their starting quarterback.”

They had hoped Sunday’s rally, only a day in the making, would have attracted more people.

Packers fans are divided on the 38-year-old quarterback. While Favre clearly has his supporters, others seem weary of another offseason of retirement-related drama.

In an unscientific poll on the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel’s Web site, 47.2 percent of fans said they wanted Favre to play for the Packers next season and 46.5 percent said he should “retire already.” Only 6.3 percent of the 17,000-plus fans who voted in the poll as of Sunday afternoon wanted to see Favre play for another team.

The Packers said if Favre wanted to play for them, he had the chance when he told them a few weeks after his tearful goodbye news conference that he was having second thoughts. With Thompson and McCarthy preparing to fly to Mississippi and seal the deal on a comeback, all Favre had to do was say yes. He didn’t.

“Ted always wanted Brett back,” McCarthy said. “We always wanted Brett back.”

In an interview with the AP on Saturday, Thompson called the situation “gut-wrenching.”

“We understand where the fans are coming from,” he said. “This is a hot-button issue that surpasses anything I’ve ever gone through.”

The brothers, from the Milwaukee suburb of Pewaukee, started making random phone calls Saturday from the Green Bay white pages urging people to attend Sunday’s rally and visit their Web site http://www.bringbackbrettfavre.com.

At the rally, they asked fans to vote on whether they wanted the team to make Favre the starter, whether Favre or Rodgers gives the Packers the best chance at the Super Bowl and whether Thompson should be fired if he trades or releases Favre.

The Web site is selling “Favre 08” shirts, bumper stickers and yard signs. Erick Rolfson, 32, plans to turn his Wauwatosa mortgage company into “Favre ‘08 Headquarters.”

“Last time we checked,” he said, “Green Bay is a publicly owned franchise and is owned by the people in the community and by the stockholders, not Ted Thompson.”

AP Sports Writer Chris Jenkins contributed to this report."

I think Favre is a douche bag but i do think he's earned the right to start.

Aaron fucking Rodgers is a nobody ass clown that might be out of the league had he been starting the last few years. If he's actually a good QB congratulations but remember Matt Hasslebeck was a stud backup for a number of years before he fell on his face in Seattle (prior to becoming a good QB). Matt Schaub was a golden god before he became a marginal starter in Houston (still think he'll turn it around). Aaron Rodgers has never done ANYTHING.

Being a backup QB is like getting paid to jerk off. If he pouts just trade him for mismatched socks, you can get a new QB later. You don't fuck with a good team by introducing a QB who may or may not be able to complete a "forward pass".

They were 2 wins away from a Super Bowl. The guy had a good year last year. Why would they not want him back as a starter and why would he not wanna play QB for the Packers?

I don't get it. Fuck the Packers and Favre. I hope he rots on the inactive list and the Packers go 5-11.

since they get 74,000 people to show up for preseason games, I'm guessing the crowd of "more than 100" doesn't speak for the majority

In Rodgers defense he played significantly better (night and day) then Favre against dallas.

I think a large part of this was the defense was completely unprepared for him to play. I'm willing to give you that cop out and continue to slam him.

Favre's managed to deliberately pull the strings on this whole thing for the last few years while still retaining this public image of innocence but I think some of the PR facade is starting to fall and some people are starting to see that bit of selfish, attention whoring nature behind the good ole boy image he's managed to cultivate for so long, he's TO with a better PR rep

I would rather see AROD play to be honest. He is going to have to sooner or later and lets not kid ourselves we're not going 13-3 anytime soon.

If we went 8-8 I would be happy.

Favre represents the old type of football and him retiring is the end of an era. I'd much rather have the NFL with him in it than with him out of it.
