And how environmentally friendly it is compared to what's available in the grocery stores.

Haha, that reminds me of the variation problems from middle school!!!

If $3 of cabbage and lentils can feed 2 people for 4 times, how much cabbage and lentils (in $) would be needed to feed 3 people for 10 times????

I grow my own herbs, but since i rent then I have not had the chance to get a full on garden going. My friend lives on 6 acres and already has a pretty nice garden going, so I think I am going to convince her to let me start my own out there

i bet if you offered to help w/ the labor, you could increase the size of garden, and share. I know I split my crop w/ all involved.

that's the plan. she has plenty of room and is all about it. I want to grow a variety of peppers, and she has none of those in there now. She also has no tomatoes or cucumbers, so I would like to get those going. between the two of us we could have a pretty badass little garden.

getting specific on "healthy" is all about the qualifiers. Not all foods in all situations are optimal/healthy.

you could vaguely say "eat lots of fruits/veggies w/ a major protein source"

No, you can't. Eating shit will still affect your health negatively and catch up with you one day. One day very soon.

I eat endless amounts of oatmeal (insanely cheap), whole wheat pasta (stock up on triple coupon weekend and its pennies per meal) and whey protein. In fact, that's currently all I have in my pantry. (Plus a daily multivitamin) At the rate I'm going, my monthly power bill exceeds my grocery bill. But I admit my diet is strange.

well the point I was trying to make was that you can eat unhealthy and get away with it if you have the workout plan that someone that Phelps has. You stop that plan, and you will get fat as shit

oh, and it will make you smoke pot

If I consistently ate like i eat at work, i would be in much better shape.

normal meal at work is about 4 ounces of meat (beef, pork, or chicken), 3-4 stalks of broccolini, some brussel sprouts, and a sauce normally made from white wine or stock with a little (maybe 2 tsp.) of herb compound butter for a little flavor and body.

As I said, one day that diet will definitely show its adverse effects on your heart, liver, kidneys, and blood, even after you stop it (if you do it for years, even with all that training)

Being healthy is not just about being fat or thin. Yes, with an unhealthy diet and a brutal training regimen, you will stay thin like Phelps, but you are damaging your body still.

Anyway, I don't want to hijack this thread. If you want to continue, you can ask the mods to bttt that thread of mine that I linked.

it's amazing how long you can live when chicken is on sale and you're eating healthy

<$20
2lb bag brown rice -$2
24oz tub of oatmeal - $1.50
6lbs chicken -$12
4lbs green peas - $4-5

I'll eat 5-6 "meals"/day

1/2 cup whole grain source
4oz lean meat
2/3 cup dark green veggie

I avoid deli meats like the plague...too much sodium & $$$

pack em all in tupperware and tote them everywhere with me....lost 100lbs in the past year doing more or less this routine

in a hurry? my on the go meal is a protein shake and 2 slices whole grain bread.....can nab a bag of the arnold double fiber whole grain bread for $2 at nearly any grocery store...22g whole grain/slice, 5g fiber, 1g sugar, 100 cal/slice

That's not a very healthy diet... you are a bodybuilder, so I am sure you know that already! And 150 grams seems like a lot for a girl who weighs what, 140 lbs? And if you add the protein from the oats and pasta, it could be as high as 180+ g.

it's marginally cheap, but my normal week's worth of groceries:

3 plum tomatoes (will explain this later)
baby spinach
3-4 red peppers
carrots
7 broccoli crowns
1 can almonds
18 eggs
2 top loin steaks
2 4-packs turkey breast cutlets
dried fruit
7 yogurts (as few additive ingredients as possible)

Things that'll last more than a week, but end up getting ~ every other week
garlic head
long grain brown rice
whole wheat bread loaf

On sundays after the grocery store, I'll make a balsamic vinagrette and roated peppers for the week.

Slice the tomatoes into 1/4" slices, lining the bottom of a glass baking pan, single layer
dice 5 cloves of garlic, mix wtih 4 tbspn evoo, brush over tomatoes
thrown in oven at 400 for like 10 minutes or so
thow into blender with fresh basil, another tbspn of evoo, 3 tbspn balsamic vinegar, salt and pepper to taste, liquify

I'll use this dressing for the rest of the week for lunch salads

I'll roast the red peppers and skin, then store the peppers in a jar with olive oil (and using last weeks red pepper olive oil in ^ is killer too)

I'll do a simple black pepper rub on one of the steaks, grill the steak, slice thin and portion 4oz poritons into containers.

Breakfast:
3 scrambled eggs, (2 whites, 1 white+yolk)
1 slice whole wheat toast

Snack:
1/4 cup almonds

Lunch:
Spinach salad, roasted red pepper slices, carrots, 1 of the steak portion containers and then the balsamic on the side.
yogurt

snack:
dried fruit

dinner:
turkey breast cutlet, grilled (play with marinades to keep it interesting, but be careful your marinade ingredeints... keep it simple and away from sugars
steamed broccoli crown
brown rice

I like to either grill or broil the turkey, and can have the dinner prepped, cooked, plated in under 20 minutes.

For the breakfast, I'll make the lunch and pack it while cooking the breakfast, and can do it all and be eating in under 15 minutes.

It doesn't take that much more time or effort, and materials for a weeks worth of this meal plan (notice no frozen, mostly fresh but the yogurt) works out to be ~$7-8/day.

If you skip the steaks for lunch it's considerably less

Just trying to think of some things that havent been mentioned much:
--cous cous
--skippy natural pb
--big bottle of fish oils from target
--generic cereal has some bang for the buck
and the obvious: oatmeal, frozen chicken breast, veggies, etc

For those sick of eating healthy. Spice it up a little. Buy some basil, oregano, seasoning salt, etc. It really adds some flavor to boring chicken dishes and isnt bad for you at all. Even go with pickles or something. Go wild. Dream big.

Isn't really a problem as long as you're creative and not picky.
I mean, let's face it folks, all of those that just can't get down with vegetables, beans and whole grains... are fucked.
Hopefully they'll use any money they saved (by buying crap food) for paying their higher health care costs...

You don't really need a "decent" one. There are a lot of very affordable systems -- certainly less expensive than most fish tanks.
For instance, the Institute of Simplified Hydroponics (http://www.carbon.org/) uses these very inexpensive systems for their charity outreach.

Also, you don't have to get expensive indoor lighting. You can grow on your deck, patio, driveway, window, etc.

I am not a good cook (which really sucks because my mom is the best cook evar). However, I do a decent job of living on:

Peanut butter/honey sandwiches
El-cheapo soup
Turkey/cheese sandwiches (a la Sam's)
Pasta
Chicken/rice

I haven't had a job since October and I truly don't think I could balance one with my current class schedule and workload, so I've really really had to cut back on food spending, along with everything else.

Well, 13 people means 13 suspects.
Also, you say that you call them out. What does that consist of?
Lastly, I agree that freaking out would be bad when you don't know who did it. However, you should consider doing at least something. You can study their schedules to figure out who it is, or you could even use some kind of surveillance or tamper-proof trap. To me, stealing 1 dollar isn't much better than stealing 100 dollars, so I would definitely not allow it. If it came to it, I'd threaten legal action.
