dude asked for top ten rock bands

chuck berry owns my face, but he ain't a band

and as much as i love "harlem airshaft," it's not a rock band playing it

if we got down to it, my favorite band ever might just be the funk brothers

also, i wrote that list in 25 seconds at 4 AM after DJing for four hours and getting my musical head all out of whack...plus i was drunk

i mean, i almost forgot to include the kinks...wtf is that

the kinks were and are more consistent songwriters than the stones and arguably the beatles

this should be a kinks thread now

Yes, it's true, Frank Miller's divorce has pushed him into the realm of hackdom.

Scott Stapp has always lived in the realm of hackdom.

That doesn't change the fact that you hate Otis Redding.

Good point, but also unfair. Hooksaw asked for his top-ten rock bands, not the people who are most responsible for creating rock.

^^ I really wasn't trying to give you a hard time. I was simply pointing out some things.

FTR, the third item in your list is a self-serving tale that is pure myth, invented by those who have sought to diminish me in some way--and I was listening to Otis Redding before any of you were born. In addition, the music that was actually blaring on the Schoolkids' speakers that fateful day was some off-the-wall screeching shit that nobody's ever heard of and is of the type that anyone who has ever visited the establishment at issue is painfully familiar with.

In any event, back on topic. My point/pwnt about you deriding all things that don't have the vinylbandit seal of approval has been thoroughly made--once again.

i'm arguably one of schoolkids' most devoted customers

i've never heard any off the wall screeching shit in there. ever.

sometimes it's borderline noise and nothing more, but never screeching shit.

Okay, I'll accept "borderline noise" then. How's that?

And if you're actually saying you never heard any off-the-wall ("markedly out of the ordinary; eccentric; bizarre") music playing in Schoolkids, then I have to throw the bullshit flag. Really?!

Back on topic: Creed's music doesn't suck nearly as bad as vinylbandit et al claim--yes, Scott Stapp is a massive douche. But if we condemned every band fronted by lead vocalist douches, there wouldn't be many left to listen to.

Scott Stapp being a douchebag has nothing to do with the quality of his music.

DLR is a douchebag and Van Halen was awesome.

James Brown was a douchebag and his music is fucking incredible.

Creed just sucks.

^^ Believe what you will, troll. But this thread's about Creed, not your hooksaw derangement syndrome.

He turned that music down, though, didn't he? And you would have done exactly the same.

PS: It's Alzheimer's, not "Alzhemer's," dummy.

I was at a bar in Sarasota, Florida two years ago when this guy came up to me and said he was the guitarist for Creed. I thought shit, that might have been cool five years ago, but talked to him nonetheless. He said he had a house down there, and was visiting by himself because his girlfriend just dumped him.

We sat there for an hour talking about guitars, Scott Stapp, life on the road, writing "My Own Prison," yadayadayada. By the time he left, he had the whole bar buying him drinks. I'm pretty sure he left with a hot girl as well. Apparently Creed still sells.

I was driving to the beach the next day and I saw this same guy. He was passed out on a sidewalk in the same clothes he was in the night before. I get back home, look up Creed's guitarist (Mark Tremonti) and realize I'd been duped out of several rounds of drinks.

So screw that guy and screw Creed for existing.

your first mistake was thinking that the guitarist from a band like creed would EVER just waltz up to a random dude at a bar and proclaim to be the guitarist from creed

the lead singer from creed might, but i would think mark tremonti would have enough street cred (especially in florida, where they're from) to not have to resort to that

geez. because it isn't top 40, or you haven't heard it, it's out of the ordinary? i've heard several standards while shopping in Schoolkids. granted, it isn't Guitar Center, and you aren't going to hear Seether or Puddle of Mudd. . it's all in what you're steeped in, and/or the people you hang out with. Opinions DO vary, but automatically damning something because it's "out of the ordinary" is a bit digressive, from a human standpoint.

My band was playing at that particular club that night and I'm one of the guitarists, so it was kind of natural. He kept trying to sign my guitar (a Gibson SG). I didn't let it go that far, thank god.

I didn't "damn" you for wearing checkerboard Vans, did I?

And the bottom line concerning the Schoolkids bullshit is that I just wanted to buy two CDs (yes, I still buy them--insert [old] joke). I simply couldn't hear over the music to conduct the transaction--it's no more complicated than this.

Can we "digress" from discussing me now and get to the real issue here? Why does vinylbandit hate Creed so much?

Because they're derivative, self-righteous, boring-ass peddlers of heartless "rock" music for idiots which possesses none of the things that rock 'n' roll should.

^ Well, Gram Parsons once described the Eagles' music as a "plastic dry-fuck." Yet, Their Greatest Hits (1971-1975) is the highest-selling album in the United States--so somebody likes them.

Similarly, Creed's Human Clay album went multiplatinum, selling around 11 million copies. I realize that commerce is not the best way to measure success, but what is the "best" way? In addition, what "should" rock 'n' roll possess?
