3. CPI? ~$10,000
9/19/2010 10:50:26 PM
1. i have the same question. that guy didn't really seem like a threat.2. i think that dude is just a supplier, not a gangster. i'm sure we'll learn more though.3. $1,000.00 in 1920 had the same buying power as $11,425.87 in 2010.
9/19/2010 10:51:18 PM
The guy who was shot at the end in his restaurant was Big Jim Colosimo. He didn't want to get into the running liquor and the rest of his gang wanted to, so they killed him.Below is from wikipedia.
9/19/2010 10:59:35 PM
Big Jim Colisimo was the guy that was murdered. In real life, he didn't want to get in the alcohol game IIRC...
9/19/2010 11:01:46 PM
Good to knowBut in real life, the guy Nucky is based off was 250 pounds and ruled by force, so I don't know how historically accurate the series is trying to be

9/20/2010 12:09:12 AM
can't wait to watch this onemy social club in Brooklyn was often closed because it was a shooting location for this showI love Atlantic City, Terence Winter, Scorsese and Steve Buscemi
9/20/2010 1:12:11 AM
As always, Alan Sepinwall is able to clear up any confusion.http://www.hitfix.com/blogs/whats-alan-watching/posts/boardwalk-empire-pilot-the-day-the-drinking-died
9/20/2010 2:25:31 AM
i enjoyed it, but i wasn't blown away by it. perhaps the bar was set too high. but it's definitely a new must-see for me each week.
9/20/2010 7:49:56 AM
Yeah, it was good, but I think I had it built up too much. I can see it getting much better and will continue to watch.Hoping for more carnage in the weeks to come.
9/20/2010 8:19:04 AM
INDEED...
9/20/2010 8:35:59 AM
Yeah, the whole scene with the FBI guys in the phone booths in the hotel lobby was a very confusing way to introduce all the characters. The next scene from the roundtable dinner was equally confusing. Especially with Big Jim's accent.
9/20/2010 8:56:01 AM
the fbi scene wouldn't have been as bad if the second agent wasn't incompetant and repeated back the correct names

the casino location where Nucky met with Rothstein is the Montauk Club in Brooklyn, NYit is a social and dining club to which I happen to be a member
9/20/2010 5:43:49 PM
^ that's an insanely cool story bro. I'm glad you me mentioned it twice on this page...Maybe you should make a thread to tell us more!OTR I share the view "was a little underwhelmed due to (probably unreasonably) high expectations, but overall I'm excited about next week".
9/20/2010 9:29:37 PM
^ Agreed. No one gives a fuck about your social club[Edited on September 20, 2010 at 10:08 PM. Reason : .]
9/20/2010 10:08:10 PM
GREAT pilot...it had everything you could want: violence, nudity, midgets boxing.
9/20/2010 10:11:30 PM
Pretty much what I was going to respond with has been mentioned.I didn't get why the chicago boss got shot. But it makes sense now.The scene with the FBI guy not knowing who was who confused me. But that makes sense now.The line "I got what I want, why the fuck do we need to talk" got a chuckle out of me. Then later on he bitches at Lucky Luciano for not wanting to have a conversation before making a deal. hahaLoved the view of his slut riding him. Need more of that. Glad to see that shit bag that beat his wife get his ass beat and dumped in the ocean. Didn't know Al Capone would be involved in this series but it was cool to see him at an early age.
9/20/2010 10:20:49 PM
All the casting is good. Except I don't like the guy who plays young Lucky Luciano.
9/21/2010 10:17:32 AM
I was wondering if we were gonna see some real scorsese shit- then he Jimmy blew that dudes head apart... niiice
9/21/2010 10:41:18 AM

Officially renewed for season two today...
9/21/2010 1:34:15 PM
^surprised it took that long
9/21/2010 1:40:36 PM
Must have had really good ratings for the premiere... but honestly given the amount of marketing they have been doing and HBO's track record of quality original series, they would probably have gotten really high ratings even if it were crap.

9/21/2010 5:36:40 PM
these guys stayed in business for over a decade, so this show could go on for several seasons.
9/21/2010 6:11:08 PM
Does anybody know if the comedian was supposed to be anybody in particular, historically speaking? I found him mesmerizing for some reason.

Good 2nd show. I'm guessing we will see more "statements" from Al Capone as the series continues.
9/27/2010 10:04:07 AM
last night's episode was slow, but it's fine because i think it's just setting the stage for greatness deeper in the season. kind of reminds me of the wire in that regard. also, lots of boobies. can't go wrong there.
9/27/2010 10:04:08 AM
i actually watched last night's episode with my parents. talk about awkward, especially the scene with Jimmy and his wife.
9/27/2010 10:08:24 AM
also, wtf was up with jimmy's mom? i thought she was his mistress at first, but then i was really creeped out
9/27/2010 10:17:10 AM
Thats his MOTHER?! Fuck I totally missed that
9/27/2010 10:21:30 AM
yeah.. i didn't believe my girlfriend when she said she was his mother.
9/27/2010 10:25:20 AM
holy crap, had no idea that was his mom.. wow
9/27/2010 10:26:28 AM
I was WTF when he called her mom. I thought she was a mistress up to that point.[Edited on September 27, 2010 at 11:04 AM. Reason : $3000 on black]
9/27/2010 11:04:18 AM
At first I was Then I was And hubs didn't believe me either at first when I heard "mom" and let him know. So then we were both
9/27/2010 12:53:12 PM
the way she was kissing him was not too motherly, IMO
9/27/2010 1:04:02 PM
Most def not. She jumped up and wrapped her legs around him while wearing a nude outfit. But...it appears that's been her profession for a hot minute, and most of the time the life of children in that environment is portrayed different...
