It took the TOB credibility thread 2+ days to hit 2 pages, this one took a little over an hour and the press conference hasn't started yet. Oh boy.

I love this hire and just the fact that he took us over Purdue gives him a +1 as he must've seen something (hopefully other than money) he liked more about us than them.

psh recruit in-state if you can but really fuck recruiting in nc given his big ten country connections. exploit your midwest ties and bring in some big-ass d-linemen and o-linemen. think chuck's florida ties but the ability to coach them in addition to the ability to recruit them.

this exactly, you look at a coachs offer list as well as a recruit. when I heard he turned down purdue I figured there was no chance for us to get him

-1 for not winning a single game at NC State EVER!! must fire now

I swear, if he gets us to bowl games every year (and wins), runs a clean program, dominates UNC, and has a senior class graduate as the winningest senior class ever, I will be pissed and calling for this chump to be fired ASAP. Anything less than ACC Champs is unacceptable, unless of couse he gets us there consistantly, but can't make the NCAA Championship game, then fuck him. We must rise the bar every year until we get at least 15 or 16 wins in a season.

*sigh*

NIU rankings (adjusted for opponents strength, not raw data)

Doeren years:

2012:
Overall: 30
Offense: 33
Defense: 34
ST: 12

2011:
Overall: 53
Offense: 15
Defense: 89
ST: 71

Pre Doeren (Jerry Kill, hired away by Minnesota)

2010:
Overall: 41
Offense: 27
Defense: 58
ST: 26

2009:
Overall: 65
Offense: 64
Defense: 84
ST: 16

2008:
Overall: 60
Offense: 78
Defense:52
ST: 77

I think it's safe to say Jerry Kill did a very good job recruiting there to turn that program around and that we don't really have any clue how Doeren will fair as a recruiter given his limited experience as a head coach.

That being said, the improvement from last year to this year on the defensive side of the ball is remarkable and I think it's fair to assume Doeren had a lot to do with that given his defensive background.

For the most part our program has had success on the offensive side of the ball but has had suspect defenses over the last ~7 seasons. Hopefully, Doeren improves our defense substantially while maintaining our tradition of landing great QB's and WR's. If we ever get a running game going that would be awesome, but I'm not going to hold my breath (or sac).

False

There was only one year where the offense outperformed the defense is scoring and total offense.

Not a single unit ever broke into the top 30 in a total or scoring offense or defense category in his tenure.

2012:
Scoring Offense: 70th
Total Offense: 50th
Scoring Defense: 46th
Total Defense: 81st

2011:
Scoring Offense: 54th
Total Offense: 94th
Scoring Defense: 54th
Total Defense: 41st

2010:
Scoring Offense: 32nd
Total Offense: 39th
Scoring Defense: 29th
Total Defense: 31st

2009:
Scoring Offense: 30th
Total Offense: 46th
Scoring Defense: 99th
Total Defense: 55th

2008:
Scoring Offense: 80th
Total Offense: 88th
Scoring Defense: 65th
Total Defense: 83rd

2007:
Scoring Offense: 99th
Total Offense: 98th
Scoring Defense: 65th
Total Defense: 66th

Unless of course this guy turns out to be a complete and total failure, in which case...

Okay, I should have said our offense was great during the Wilson years and poor under the Glennon years.

Kicking RW off the team will forever be TOB's legacy. No way around it.

I was looking up some videos of DD and found one where he's mic'd up for NIU's 2012 spring game. I know there's zero pressure in a spring game, but it's interesting to see how he interacts with players. Very encouraging, very down-to-earth.

LOL. We shouldn't even need to look at the stats on this one to know that isn't true. The defense was abysmal RW's first two years. It wasn't that long ago, some of y'all smoke too much.

2010:
Offense: 25
Defense: 11

2009:
Offense: 16
Defense: 85

2008:

where on earth are you getting those numbers? they're sure not from the NCAA official statistics database

For example, there's not one offensive category in 2008 that matches that random 17 you've assigned to the offense:

http://web1.ncaa.org/mfb/natlRank.jsp?year=2008&div=IA&site=org

Rush Offense: 87th
Pass Offense: 65th
Total Offense: 88th
Scoring Offense: 80th
Passing Efficiency: 81st

^^ my numbers are opponent adjusted, i don't look at raw data as it's completely meaningless

Quote :
"The Fremeau Efficiency Index (FEI) considers each of the nearly 20,000 possessions every season in major college football. All drives are filtered to eliminate first-half clock-kills and end-of-game garbage drives and scores. A scoring rate analysis of the remaining possessions then determines the baseline possession efficiency expectations against which each team is measured. A team is rewarded for playing well against good teams, win or lose, and is punished more severely for playing poorly against bad teams than it is rewarded for playing well against bad teams."

But regardless of what numbers we look at. NO ONE would argue that our defense was good RW's first two years. Duke's offense put up Tecmo numbers on us for god's sake.
