I don't care for mustangs but I don't go to look at the cars. Its more entertaining to talk to the owners/meet other people that are really into their cars. As I've found out on this forum when posting about my car people have a superiority complex when it comes to any person really taking pride in a car that isn't 100k+ exotic. One guy had a sweet 427 Chevelle, Tubbed, Race gas, and cage. I drooled a little looking at it/smelling it as it came by.

^^What would you like to look at? There was a Jaguar XKR-S there, is that more your flavor of car? One that cost more than your house. Give me 10 Mustangs, Camaro's etc over super exotics. Mustang/camaro guy will mod his car and make it a custom, Jaguar guy is just there to show that he's got money.

Why would you say Cary C&C is shut down and then not give a reason? That's some annoying shit bro.

"Please read this entire post!

Some of you are aware, but most are not, that Cars & Coffee- Cary has been organized by one person. I routinely post as "we" because there was another person who was involved. Unfortunately he has been MIA for the past several months. Organizing C&C has been entirely volunteer and I do so in addition to working 50-60 hours per week and spending time with my now 7 month old son. Any money spent has been out of our own pockets.

I have repeatedly posted the guidelines for attending Cars & Coffee - Cary and asked the collective group to help remind those they see not in compliance to respect the host, Waverly Place. As one person I simply cannot be in all places at once and, quite frankly, am tired of being argued with about parking. This weekend I even had to stop somebody from parking in the reserved spaces... as they were maneuvering to avoid the "NO EVENT PARKING" sign.

Today I received an email from Waverly Place property management. The following is a copy and paste of the entire body:

"Hi Chris,

I hope that you are well.

I am reaching out this morning because of complaints that I received from tenants about this past weekend's Cars and Coffee. I was informed of a photo shoot with a scantily clad girl in front of our children's store, and engine revving, and parking in no-parking areas.....in general a lot of problems.

In the past we have gone out of our way to provide onsite security, etc. for this event, but we cannot continue to do this unless the event is sponsored, or paying the property at some level. It's too much of a liability, and requires too much staffing. While many car owners are polite and very kind about being onsite, many others are incredibly rude to our tenants, and cause unsafe situations in our parking lot.

Unless we turn this into a registered event that can be controlled from a safety perspective and the costs of doing so can be covered, we cannot continue to host the club at Waverly Place.

Please let me know if you would like to get together to discuss turning this into a legitimate event. If it remains a club without rules that can be enforced from your end, we cannot host it. It's far too dangerous.

Thank you,"

I am officially announcing the end of Cars & Coffee - Cary as we know it. If you are one of the people responsible for the actions mentioned in the email from Waverly's management you owe them, the businesses of Waverly and the group of car enthusiasts who like to attend a huge apology. If you witnessed one of these acts and did nothing, you owe the group an apology.

The following are the options for our event moving forward:

1. The event ceases to exist. This would be the second time in as many years the event has been kicked out of their location and we could only hope the new event in Raleigh does not suffer the same fate for the same reasons.

2. I am happy to continue to work toward making the event the best it can be... but not alone. Organization will require several volunteers and changes will have to be made. In order for this to be possible in time for the May event I need people to step up quickly so that decisions can be made.

3. Someone else can take over responsibility and attempt to improve or relocate the event.

Please share this post!"

get a car club that is used to hosting car shows to sponsor it, then charge a small fee for entrance. Use the fee to cover security or parking lot rental costs and donate any extra to a charity (and have a place to donate directly to that charity at the event).

Well there's already a Raleigh C&C that happens mid-month every month now, held at the Raleigh Grande off Glenwood. Not sure Raleigh (and Cary) need(s) two of these, or if people are willing to put forth the effort for both.

Well I mean...it just started last month, so I'm assuming it will continue. The movie theater seemed pretty happy to be hosting - they even showed an automotive "themed" movie at a discounted rate at 11am. I'd imagine they'll continue to do that too.

yeah, its actually a pretty good venue since they have lots of parking and not many people in the morning or mid day. if i were them i would push concessions on people there for C&C.

They have the concessions open. I only went to the Cary one once, looking at the venue I don't understand how it made it this far. The one in Raleigh is 5 mins from my place, and I can take my gf to a movie afterwards.

"I had a positive meeting with the property management at Waverly this morning. Certain organizational and logistical changes will have to be made but several ideas were tossed around about how to allow Cars & Coffee - Cary to continue. Bottom line: there will be more organization and a nominal fee per vehicle.

Due to the effort necessary to make and implement changes for our event and the fact that May 3rd is the date of the same run that some might remember caused so many problems with parking last year it was agreed there will be no May Cars & Coffee with the hope of having a great June event.

The members of the management team I met with are very supportive of the event and look forward to continuing to host us but recognize the challenges of integrating with the evolving shopping center.

I appreciate all those who have offered assistance. At this time I will be contacting a few people to form a committee to discuss how to manage the event on our end. Too many in a committee can be counter productive so please don't feel slighted if you are not contacted. If you have ideas or suggestions feel free to share them here or in a private message."

If the market could support monthly car shows that charge entry fees there would have all-ready been one.

Seeing as how there is now a monthly Cars & Coffee event in the Raleigh Grande parking lot on Glenwood (which is free) I don't see how they could expect a good turn out if they're going to charge people.

Gonna be nice and sunny Saturday maybe I'll take the 5 min ride to the theater. Look at some cars and catch a movie.

^^^ Yup, gonna be nice and empty in June. I don't know why he's attempting to keep it at Waverly Place. Its pretty obvious that the businesses their do not want Cars and Coffee there. There must be some other places in Cary that would welcome the event. Maybe Crossroads Theater. Also that parking lot sucks.

back in the day, adam8778 and I drove 2.5hrs to a garage meet-up at the cookout on western.

Garage dedication.

IIRC that was Jeepman, Optimusprimer, TripleD4U, SMC? (guy had a dune buggy creation) and someone else. It rained so we hightailed it to Crest road for some garage hanging

^^^^ I think the businesses do want it there, that place is dead Saturday mornings without it. The property management wants to charge a fee so they can have people sign a waiver agreement and enforce the "rules". Im sure the property management sensed things getting a lil wilder than the normal spirited driving (bikini photo shoot) and consulted their lawyers and insurance company.

We were hoping to have a make-up day in the next couple of weeks but there are already events scheduled at the theatre that will prevent that from happening. Therefore, our next event will be Saturday, May 17th. Chalk one up for Mother Nature. Hope to see everyone next month!"

I went to my first Cars and Coffee event yesterday here in Knoxville. Over 1,000 cars came out, which was pretty awesome. My LeMons team took our Geo and Contour for the race car area our local SCCA club set up.

It was pretty funny seeing the confused looks the Ferrari/Maserati/etc owners gave our LeMons cars at first, but once they understood what they were they loved it. It didn't hurt that the Geo has 5 or 6 trophies from LeMons races which were on display.

The event was fun, I saw some cool cars/trucks. Three Deloreans came out, which is a pretty rare sight, and I got to see my buddy's De Tomaso Pantera for the first time in person. Lots of really nice looking Maseratis and Aston Martins, which I'm a big fan of, and a new Jaguar F Type convertible.

The only downer is that a guy who was locally famous for owning a really nice R33 Skyline stopped to help a buddy with car trouble on the side of the interstate leaving the event, and a driver swerved off the interstate and killed both of them. The offending driver Francisco Javier Zarate Rodriguez was charged with vehicular manslaughter, driving without a license, driving without insurance, etc. I didn't know the Skyline owner or the other guy, but a bunch of my friends did, and its pretty infuriating that they were killed like that.

Quote :
"OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT FOR JUNE:

I know everyone has been anxiously awaiting this news.

Cars & Coffee - Cary will happen on June 7th. In order to cover costs associated with hosting the event there will be a $5.00 charge per vehicle plus a $1.25 service fee for the ticketing system (standard across all platforms considered). The link will be provided once I get confirmation that a few final adjustments have been made.

This fee was unanimously supported by all involved, including Waverly and representatives of the various car clubs who were involved in the decision. Waverly will not be profiting from this charge. Cars & Coffee - Cary is partnering with Wheels 4 Hope, a charity that provides vehicles for low income families in need of reliable transportation. All net proceeds will be donated to the charity.

Space for the June event will be limited to just the upper lot (exact number is not yet known but estimated at 240 spaces) near Taziki's in order to help facilitate the implementation of the new system. We will not be using the lower lot near Chik-Fil-A for June. Space needed for future events will be assessed based upon ticket sales and attendance for June. Tickets purchased can be printed or scanned directly from a smart phone. NO CASH PAYMENTS for admission will be accepted. If there is space still available tickets can be purchased on site via smart phone, Ipad, etc.

We know that not all people are going to be happy about the new fee. Nobody is required to attend Cars & Coffee. Everyone is welcome to attend as a spectator for no charge, though we will have a place to make donations to Wheels 4 Hope directly.

We welcome constructive criticism and suggestions but ask that everyone refrain from making negative comments regarding the fee. We know it is impossible to please all of the people all of the time. Suggestions for relocation are also counter-productive. Please trust that we have entertained many ideas and are doing what is best for Cars & Coffee - Cary at this time.

We hope you will all plan to join us on June 7th."

And he just killed his event.

But there are too many douche nozzles and elitists that show up. So I stopped going.

My favorite cars were always the weird ones. That dude with the mint green early 90s cummins 4x4 that's just clean as clean gets. The f1 supercharged crown Vic. A twin turbo mustang that came once.

I went the last 2 events in hopes of meeting some gear heads, didn't meet any, but I did get to hear people downing every car that wasn't a "exotic". I left the Raleigh event in less that 30 mins because of that snob mentality. I won't be going back for a WHILE.

And the clean low milage pantera that shows up. I could care less about the base 911s and the 458s that show up everytime to get their dose of feel good for their car.

Ooh and a big blown 95 lighting.

When I had my subie I parked it outside of the look at me zone.

[Edited on May 24, 2014 at 9:51 AM. Reason : I don't need exotics but doing work on the car and uniqueness was what I liked]

At the Raleigh event, the car that caught my eye the most was a Z51 Stingray that hendrick chevy bought. If I had 75k I'd of driven it home

I'm never impressed by low miles on a car, its a car, drive it. I'm also not impressed by extremely expensive cars that are bone stock (essentially every exotic that shows up). Raleigh needs a dragstip.

"RIP Cars and Coffee - Cary.

I just received this email:

"Good Morning Chris,

I hope that you have been enjoying the long weekend. I am contacting you today in regards to the Cars & Coffee meet up at Waverly Place.

As you know we've been making every effort to bring order and process to the meet up in trying to allow this to continue on the property. Our team has met numerous times to discuss the logistics and made every attempt to pull this thing together, however we realize that we as a company don't have the resources to dedicate to this event. We are currently in the busiest time of our season and have contracted events that require all of our time and resources be given to them.

We, as a team, have collectively decided that we will not be able to continue with the Cars & Coffee meet up at Waverly Place Shopping Center. Please know this was not without much back-and-forth discussion about how we could make this all work, but unfortunately we couldn't make all the pieces fit. We do wish you the best of luck with the future of Cars & Coffee; We have no doubts that you all will be able to find another property that will suit your needs.""

I love seeing extremely clean old cars - American muscle/iron from the 60s-70s or stuff like an early 70's 911 that is 100% original and yet somehow still in amazing shape. Stuff like that you can really appreciate.

Newer, and rare exotics are awesome too - IF the owner is gracious enough to let you explore the car and maybe talk to you about it. Of course, most don't.
