I hate you...lol

I've got to go to CT in January for work so I'll do my typical go up a day early or stay a day late and make the drive up to VT. I've skied Mt Snow and Killington. Think I'm going to do Mad River Glen this time

I'm selling my 164w Flow Infinite if anyone is looking for a board. It's in good shape. No gouges in the base or damage to the rails. Just some normal scratches from use and travel. $150 for board only. No boots/bindings.

I'll try to do an edge grind and apply some fresh wax on it in the next few days if there's any interest. It's a really good all mountain board for bigger riders or powder days.

Vail on Sunday. Only 6-7 inches in Blue Sky Basin but awesome nonetheless.

need a location recommendation

6 adults - 2 kids (one is 1yr and one is 2yr so we'll need daycare although one of the moms is preggers) - 3 days of skiing - we're all skiiers and spend most of the day on blues

we are wide open as to location although we prefer a direct flight from atlanta if at all possible - no whistler / taos / breckenridge / steamboat springs - pretty open to anywhere else

Budget? I'm seeing direct sub $600 flights to Vail from Atlanta. Vail's got some of the best groomers / intermediate terrain in the country plus a huuugeee village (well two) to explore with shops, restaurants, people watching, etc.

budget is fairly high - flights aren't a massive deal as long as there are seats because we have points to burn

planning to go probably the feb 13 weekend

check out: http://www.powderhounds.com/USA/Ski-Resorts-Ratings.aspx

It rates various aspects of most of the ski resorts in the country, including a column for "family friendliness"

I can vouch for Copper being very family friendly with reasonably priced daycare and plenty for kids to do. Snowmass (near aspen) is also known for being family friendly.

Yeah I'm really only familiar with Colorado mountains but if you're willing to spend a little more on flights ($200-300 more than direct to Denver) you can fly straight into Vail (or Avon I think). Vail ski passes are pretty pricey ($159/day for adults) but if you've got Marriott points the Vail Marriott is awesome ($35/day resort fee gets you free ski valet and a few other things). The town is huge and there's plenty of shopping, ice skating, restaurants, concerts, etc for families. The nice thing about Vail is everything is within walking distance (or a free shuttle). You don't have to make a trip to the ski resort if you're staying in town or make a trip to town if you're staying at the ski resort. Everything is in the same place. Its the second or third largest ski resort in the US (depending how you measure it) and you'll never run out of runs to ski.

You may want to look at other locations in the US (Wyoming, Utah, etc) if you want guaranteed good powder but Vail has pretty much everything and if you're there 3-4 days you'll probably get at least one decent powder day. Although if you're only skiing blues then it might not matter as much to you.

Whenever I go it's pretty much valet your car and you don't have to drive again until you leave. It's pretty nice but pricey. Lots of good people watching. Every time I go I feel like everyone (including the employees) are European or South American. If you're into shopping for $20k fur coats they've got that but they also have all the name brand stores (North Face, Patagonia, Marmot, Smartwool, etc) for cheaper stuff. Kind of just depends what you're into.

If you do end up going to Vail check out "The George". It's an awesome under ground bar / restaurant with couches and pool tables. Happy hour is from 3-9 and all top shelf drinks are $4.50. Their surf and turf and filet are like 40% off as well as most of their other food.

^Copper is a great mountain as well but you're going to have to drive to get to more shops/restaurants. Aspen and Snowmass are great but the villages aren't as big as Vail. I'm assuming lift prices are similar as well .

I really want to check out Crested Butte. Apparently it's an awesome mountain town with great slopes. I think it's a little harder to get to though.

anyone gone cat skiing before? Since I can't afford heli-skiing, this seems right up my alley. But still, $475 is a lot of scratch for a day of skiing, but I suspect a day of backcountry will be at least 4 times better than a day of runs at a ski resort.

I'll be in SLC 1/30-2/4, and looking at this one: http://www.powderhounds.com/USA/Cat-Skiing/ParkCity-Powdercats.aspx

is that price in line with what I should expect? interested in any other opinions from those who've done it.

I got a busy month planned Jan 10 - Targhee, Jan 23 - Jackson Hole, Feb 7-8 - Bridger/Big Sky. If anybody's out here, shoot me a PM and we'll grab a beer

Well, had my CO trip. No fresh snow on those mountains in over two weeks and highs well above freezing all days, blue bird at that, and yet the snow conditions were still pretty good. Of course we're talking strictly packed powder only so 95% of my skiing was done on 'conventional" named trails instead of more of a 50/50 split of that plus glades and chutes. Not too many areas were closed, but as far as hiking way off trail to find "fresh" stuff I just didn't consider it. With the snow being that old I wasn't going to take the chance (of it sucking). Was my first time at both mountains, and I would definitely return if given the chance.

Telluride:
Amazing mountain with an awesome resort area, and even cooler, a resort gondola runs into the old mining town (Telluride proper) until midnight every day. For $100/night (per room) I was 100 yards from the ski lift onto the mountain while also being able to walk to anywhere in downtown Telluride. Telluride doesn't have many bowls, and really just 1-2 that are even chairlift accessible. Palmyra Peak was closed, but I wouldn't have considered going over there anyway. My favorite parts of this mountain were Silvercloud in Revelation Bowl (ran it 5 times back to back in 30 minutes before lunch second day, haha) and the runs fed by the Plunge lift, specifically Bushwacker - freaking loved that run. Thanks to the packed powder you could take that slope super fast if you wanted. According to my Trace app, on one of my runs there I maintained 60+ mph for more than 10 seconds, and topped out just north of 70

Purgatory:
Spent the last day skiing here. Again, no fresh snow, and the weather that day was 55°+ at the base with clear blue skies. Still, didn't encounter any slushy snow (except at the base of the mtn at day's end). Nowhere near as large as Telluride, Purgatory has no bowls or super challenging terrain. However, what it did have, more than any other mountain I've been to, were fast Blues and Blacks that had huge air potential rollers. The air time potential of some of these were ridiculous, and most of the time I found myself doing a speed check before launching. Had a few close calls after going 10+ feet in the air instead of the 5-6 I was expecting, but no crashes. Was a gut checking moment when my brother and I flew over a roller...only to discover mid flight it was a 12 ft cliff face on one side of the slope, haha. Luckily neither of us flinched and landed it just fine

And that is the full summary of me skiing for the year 2015

Thanks, still going through the ~75GB of photos and video from my GoPro. 99% of the photos are throwaway, but its worth it to get a handful of good ones.

This was another good one.

I live just under an hour away from Stowe (Burlington, VT area) and finally got to experience this mountain for the first time on one of the best Bluebird days you could ever hope for. They are in great shape this season with impressive natural depths right down to the base. Here are a few shots I took on the mountain.
