Bronco Mendenhall to UVA. Pretty impressive hire for them.

Coastal getting stronger by the day.

I like Canada as OC. Our running game has done well...we have no elite WRs so that's why the passing game sucks.

It's a very advanced offense. Hopefully he doesn't go to ECU that would suck.

I suspect they get some mid level SEC coordinator.

lots of message board rumors today that ECU will hire Gene Chizik if they can work out a contract. We'll see how true it.

Quote :
"Duke associate head coach and offensive coordinator Scottie Montgomery will become the next head coach at East Carolina University, according to multiple reports."

My only guess is with some of those other names they knew it was just gonna be a stepping stone job with this hire maybe they are hoping they can keep him around a while?

I have to saw - I watched the Scotty Montgomery press conference & I'm sold on the dude. Never heard of him before today. I'd take him over at least half our current staff now just based on public speaking alone. ECU might turn out alright on this, which doesn't help us in any way.

well...the comment "i'd take him over at least half our current staff" is kinda silly since he was already an OC in the ACC and is now a head coach. a complete apples to oranges comparison. you'd take a former OC and current head coach over our current RBs coach? that's hardly going out on a limb.

ahhh...forgot he was an ecu guy lol. that explains that comment.

also, pretty good LOL at "I'd hire him based solely on his public speaking ability"...it's a good thing you aren't the one doing the hiring then

Nick Saban isn't a very good public speaker. Like he's probably not even top-100 as far as the D-1 coaches.

[Edited on December 14, 2015 at 3:57 PM. Reason : Belichick sucks at public speaking too]

I wouldn't say never Give him a couple more years at a small school to build his reputation back up, he will probably get another look.

Maybe he can go back to Northern Illinois as an offensive coordinator.

all I've found is that players' girlfriends approached his staff about domestic violence type stuff and he basically tried to keep it out of the student conduct process?

So are they canning his staff too? Briles son seems like a guy to target once DD flames out this year (unless he is complicit with the UT style rap culture at Baylor).

Well, the DC is now the interim had coach, so I'd say no. It wouldn't surprise me to see his son leave, for obvious reasons.

So you want to hire a coach who is 1-2 with top 5 talent? I have a few questions for you.

What is so promising to you about Miles? I think he's a good fit for an elite program and was once doing a great job at LSU but has found himself in a rutt. I don't see how his success could transfer over to a place with an intrinsic recruiting disadvantage.

Do you credit his recruiting prowess for bringing elite talent to LSU year in and year out? Its widely believed LSU would have had elite talent regardless.

Do you think he could bring similar talent to NC State? I don't think so. I think our situation is much different than when you have a monopoly over a region rich in elite talent.

Do you think he is great at game management? LSU fans have always criticized his play calling, clock management and risk taking.

Do you think his offensive weaknesses would somehow be overcome here? This is a guy who had OBJ and Jarvis landry on the same team yet still struggled to move the ball.

Thats not how this works.

1. You don't have a "current coach" when you are searching for a coach
2. You don't compare prospective coaches to previous coaches whom have failed. Thats not exactly a standard for success and is only an appropriate metric when your previous coach left for a better job.
