^^ I’m assuming he’s just not ready for ACC play. But I don’t see any benefit in redshirting him. Because it seems highly unlikely that he’ll be here for 4 years. So redshirting him does little to aid in his development. Maybe he just sucks? But a 30 point blowout win would be a fine time to get him some minutes.

I’m gonna start this post by saying bracketology at this stage is dumb. I also think the NET is a flawed system.

But can somebody explain why most people have Duke as a 6 ish seed and State as an 8 ish seed? Bracket matrix shows Duke’s average seed as 6.4 and as high as 5 in lots of brackets. It shows State’s average seed as 8.2 with the highest being 6 (but only in 1 bracket. 7-10 in basically every other bracket and a couple as low as an 11). They also show UNC with an average of 7.43. And UNC is 1-6 in Q1 games. I know this is all pointless right now, but I just don’t get it.

Resumes don’t look that different to me.
Duke vs Q1: 3-6
State vs Q1: 3-4

Duke vs Q2: 3-0
State vs Q2: 2-1

Duke vs Q3: 2-0
State vs Q3: 4-0

Duke vs Q4: 8-0
State vs Q4: 9-0

Because Duke has more Q1 games, I’m assuming their SOS would grade out tougher than ours. But the NCAA Net ranking website doesn’t display SOS.

I think duke’s best win would be over Xavier (26 in NET). Our best win would be over Duke (22 in NET). Obviously we have a Q2 L, Duke doesn’t have a loss worse than a Q1 L. I guess I’m just not seeing a stark difference in resumes. But the projections would indicate that Duke is about 2 seed lines better.

My guess is his defense isn't up to par. Guy has been on campus for a little over a month. Trying to get him to learn how to play team defense at the college level in the middle of a season is nearly impossible. That and he weighs like 80 pounds. But mostly the learning curve between HS and college with absolutely no transition time.

Also he’s good, but it’s not like he was a top 10 recruit or a one and done prospect. I bet he’s still here at least two full seasons before getting drafted. He’s going to need to bulk up a bit first…he’s rail thin and got pushed around by a lot of dudes he went up against in HS. Probably wise to RS him rather than burning a year of eligibility playing a handful of garbage minutes that won’t help long-term if he’s not ready to compete.

I would hope bracketologists are including future predicted results, not just past known results, so maybe Duke is predicted to finish out better than us.

But also, I'd be curious comparing our q3/4 resumes to get a better idea of SOS. It's a common problem with Keatts at bubble time that he loves two schedule those sub 300 teams, which probably torpedoes our SOS. Kenpom isnt net but they put dukes NCSOS at 75 and ours at 313!!!

Gotta schedule smarter. Part of it is luck, I’m sure. But Duke has 8 Q4 games. And we have 9. So it’s not really a situation where we loaded up on Q4 games and Duke avoided them. (This does include acc games, to be fair). But obviously playing teams in the upper 100s helps your SOS look better. Playing teams in the 300s makes your SOS look worse. But both are Q4 opponents.

It’s easy to say that now, but he’s definitely not a lock for the NBA and you never know what’s going to happen with injuries or how he will develop. Pretty pointless to waste eligibility for a few garbage minutes at the end of a season, regardless of how likely he is to need that year down the road. Look at Yurtseven…he was ranked a bit higher out of HS and was projected as a potential one/two and done but ended up in college for 4 years (sat out one of those)…went undrafted (but signed as a FA).

In modern college basketball, you should never ever worry about burning a redshirt year. Ever. The amount of players who will use up their eligibility at one school is low. If a guy is ready to contribute, he should play even if it's only a minute a game. Miranda is obviously not ready to contribute. But if he gets to that point sometime later in the season, by all means he should play.

One of the state sites had their click baity headline of how we have cemented our place in these brackets, but if we lose our next 4 that cement will crumble right away!

It's non conference, they are going to be inflated bc it's in their favor to play major conferences opponents more often, who will typically be higher rated. I haven't reviewed APBs schedule to validate this but it seems plausible.

I also don't agree with your point that if he hasn't played yet then he's definitely not going to this season. There is no reason to not play him solely to preserve a redshirt season. If he's healthy and can contribute in March, he should absolutely play.

FSU game was awesome. Best, most complete performance by us I've seen in a long time. FSU didn't get past 4 points until <10 min left in the first half, and I don't think they ever got closer than maybe 18, and that was I think right at the end of the first half and start of the 2nd. Hopefully we keep that mojo. Historically we've had a hard time against FSU and teams like them because we can't match with their size. It was nice to see that not be an issue the other night.

Football is 30% of scheduled games (so it works out to 4 for a 12 game schedule), but that's still a relatively recent rule change.

Regardless, no one should be worried about not playing Miranda solely to preserve a year of eligibility.

^^I, too, hope we continue to score >1.3 points per possession every game (this is not actually sustainable)
