yeah in his very limited minutes i was kinda surprised with how he moved. seems like KK likes long athletic guys in the post and then he's ok with playing an undersized guy at the 4 like Hellems or Dorn if they can shoot decent and create their own shot (and play D). and of course, in different lineups Hellems and Dorn both played more than just the 4 position. but i'm not sure where Farrar fits into that. he definitely doesn't seem like KK's typical post player...so if he wants to play a Hellems/Dorn type role then i think he'll need to slim down. he's a 6'6" chubby dude...i'm not trying to shit on him, i'm just not sure where he fits into this team.

I don't think Farrar will transfer. IMO the most likely guys are Dowuona and/or Gibson, in that order.

any of the bigs (i guess Farrar is a big, kinda?) would be a candidate given their lack of playing time. but also, if any of them are any good, there's an obvious opening for PT next year with Funderburk gone. we could use the front court depth. we do have Ross coming in and who knows what we may go for in the transfer market.

it's gonna be hard to miss any of those 3 (gibson, ebe, farrar) since they played so little this year. i am optimistic that they can develop, but clearly none of them are ACC ready yet.

Only transfer so far is Beverly and I don’t think we ever thought he was coming back.

We have just 1 open scholarship, Beverly leaving as a senior doesn’t impact that. I don’t know who, but I’d kinda expect at least 1 transfer. Especially since we seem so active in pursuing transfers.

Moore is gone. I understand transfers are the new state of things across the college bball landscape, but FUCK. IMO, he was our most promising player and yet couldn't crack 20 minutes a game. He had issues with playing out of control and turnovers at time (as freshmen do), but his defense was good and his fearlessness on the offensive end was about the only bright spot we had on that end this season.

I sure am glad BB got all those minutes during the losing streak.

I don't see any positive way to look at this. Our freshmen will be talented but raw, our guard transfers are not exciting to me at all.

Do you really think if the guy who had the assertiveness and fuck you attitude to make many of the plays he did had a solid rotation spot this last year that he would have been worried about the two new kids coming in?

Because I don't. Shak Moore was by far our most aggressive player and seemed to have the "it" factor that none of our other dudes did. He was consistently making big defensive plays and grabbing big rebounds. Yes, that often manifested as out-of-control on the offensive end. Even Hayes who was coming on at the end is a much more passive player. That doesn't mean Moore is better than Hayes, but you have to have some dogs if you want to win big games. You can tell Moore is a dog.

Pass and Terquavion look fine and will probably be good for us longterm. They will likely have less of an impact immediately than Hayes and Moore did this year. I'd be surprised if the UVA kid (who was probably only even recruited because Shak was out the door months ago) has a major offensive impact--although it's likely his time with Bennet made him a decent defender. If it really was Shak looking at who was coming in behind him and not him worried about getting his minutes constantly jerked around and pulled out of the game every time he fucked up, then I completely misread the kid's mentality.

Someone on twitter asked if this was a Purvis situation or a Martin twins situation (just in regards to how good they are gonna be somewhere else) and I fear it's leaning towards the Martin twins. Shak is a player. I am kinda surprised he waited this long to make the call officially though.

Yeah, again. Because all the shit Keatts was pulling with minutes during the season has a consequence--especially in this age of transfers.

Now, you can say this is ALL because of transfer culture and Keatts has no culpability here. There also very well could have been stuff behind the scenes that we have no idea about.

But there is also a perfectly visible (to the fans) argument to be had that many of us were having months ago in real time. If I was Shak and I saw the way my minutes got dicked around or I saw first hand how Keatts tanked any potential draft stock DJ had, I'd be bouncing too.

This is probably the most significant transfer we have had in the last decade. This isn't Blake Harris bouncing.

Shak had potential to be really good. He was also really raw and wasn’t a great facilitator at PG...Hayes was definitely better at that. He’s an ok 3 point shooter but not irreplaceable in that regard. I liked his style and his potential. I don’t think this is the end of the world.

I don’t think the BB thing is a factor. BB ain’t on the team anymore. If you wanna be mad at Keatts, be mad he recruited over Moore. But don’t be mad at KK for playing a really raw freshman only 19 mins/game and instead playing a senior guard 25 mpg.

Sounds like Moore wants a chance to be the main PG.

I used BB as the example, because he is easy to pick on and he came to mind. But there is no goddamn way that the combo of Allen/BB should have gotten the minutes they did over Shak. Both of them are ultra-passive non-creators at a time when our offense was consistently grinding to a halt. If I was Shak watching that mess, I would have been pissed. Hell, as a fan watching it I was pissed for him.

Now, I can see the argument if Shak wants to be the #1 PG. I'm not sure why he committed with Cam if that's true, but I would have loved to see them be our backcourt together. I think they complimented each other well. Shak is more of a SG that can run the point if needed IMO.
