Yeah and I'll be honest while I appreciate the fact that the players deserve agency and I have no problem with them getting paid, it does make it hard to watch a team where it doesn't ever feel like anyone wants to actually be here

On what planet is that our starting line-up?

G: Hayes
G: Allen
G: Seabron
F: Hellems
F: Dowuona/Gibson/Gantt/Ross (one of these 4)

Need Hayes and Seabron to improve from 3, and Allen to be more consistent, but that's not an awful starting 4, just have to find anything out of the 5, even if it's just dunks and rebounding.

Biggest concern(outside of the 5), is the back-up PG. Hayes has All-ACC potential, but behind him we're looking at playing Allen out of position or forcing Pass to play as a true FR.

Yeah i would be incredibly surprised if Morsell starts. He started 13 games as a freshman at UVA but that dropped to 3 last year. His complete lack of an outside shot keeps him behind Allen imo.

I could definitely see Smith pushing for a starting spot as a freshman, with Seabron/Allen filling that 3rd guard spot.

Really the only 2 starting spots 100% locked down are Hayes and Hellems (assuming Bates is done here, obviously he starts if he stays.) Everything I've heard about Gantt says he's more of a big wing than a low post banger so i don't think he's starting at the 5 and neither is Hellems. That's gotta be Dowuona's spot to lose.

From what I saw out of Allen, I don’t think we can count him for any real mins at PG. That was a benefit to BB...he could at least run the point to give the regular PG(s) a break or help put in the case of foul trouble. I don’t think Allen has that ability unless he takes major steps forward this year. He looked really shaky with ball handling last year even playing the 2. I think it’ll have to be Hayes playing 30 mins/game and Pass spelling him.

In short, true freshman Pass is very likely a better PG option than Allen.

I have seen some rumors on Twitter that Bates is staying now??? who tf knows, but would be a major get.

If Allen plays major minutes for us next season (with or without Bates), we are fucked.

for better or worse, i think allen will play major mins. he averaged 26 mpg this past season and that was (at least part of the season prior to DD's injury) with DD and BB also both also playing mins at the #2. obviously, there were times when DD was on the court with Allen or BB so DD wasn't strictly a 2 guard. he'll be the most veteran guard on the team and i think his 3pt shooting will be enough to keep him on the court. besides him, we really don't have any reliable 3pt shooters. Hayes and Hellems shot it well most of the time last year, but i think Allen will be asked to be our knock down shooter.

37.9 3pt% is really solid. but he wasn't a reliable ball handler and really just disappeared a lot when he was out there.

I know you guys are right because Keatts apparently loves the kid so I am pre-pissed for the season. I know it's easy to look at his stats and go oh.... 37%, that's not bad. He was basically on fire for three games (all losses) and outside of that, he was below average---including a bunch of ofers and onefers.

Maybe he becomes a more consistent shooter next season. I have my doubts, but maybe so.

I know nothing about Smith, but I just hope he has more patience than Shak if he has to sit behind Allen all season.

Allen’s stats definitely seem deceiving. Honestly I don’t remember a ton of specifics about the season at this point. But I remember always thinking he wasn’t as good of a shooter as his stats seemed. Whether that’s because he got hot for a few games, I really don’t remember. But I do think that’ll be his role. Especially since shooting is a glaring weakness on the roster. Hopefully he can find more consistency and show more confidence.

KK has shown that he values experience, so you can bet Allen plays a lot of minutes barring injuries. Honestly, Allen is our only 3pt shooting threat on paper, so have to hope he can live up to his reputation.

Right now it seems Bates is returning, but I wouldn't bank on anything until after July 1st, which seems to be the date transfers have to be with their new team to play this coming season. With Bates, definitely think we have a team capable of making the tournament.
Starting 5 of: Hayes, Allen, Seabron, Hellems, Bates

Our depth is the biggest question, we have plenty of bodies but honestly not sure how good any of them will be. Only need to go about 8-9 deep, so just need Morsell, Gantt, Gibson or Dowuona, and one of the FR to be able to contribute. Seems we are recruiting Jayden Epps, but not sure if he's staying in the '21 class or going to be in the '22 class.
