Statistics on this virus are so flawed and you can make arguments either way. My cousin is a 911 dispatcher in CT and a baby with Covid was crushed by his mom while co-sleeping, and it was reported as a Coronavirus death. We all know hospitals are being pushed to report everything they can as Corona related. I am sure there are unreported cases as well. Things down here in South Florida have been busy for going on 2 weeks now, and there have been no major outbreaks tied to any specific area. Hospitals are not overwhelmed. If things change, I will retreat from this statement, but we need to continue to open just as we are.

https://covid19-projections.com

Quote :
"Current Projection for US - Updated Daily - Last Updated: May 27 (4am ET):

Current Total: 98,910 deaths | Projected Total: 208,694 deaths by Sep 1, 2020 (Range: 124-367k)

Currently Infected: 0.6% | Total Infected: 4.0%"

Great link. See projections (and awesome graphs!!!) for each state (and some counties), as well as for most countries. Projections include 2.5th percentile, mean/median, and 97.5th percentile values for total deaths, daily deaths, total infected, current infected, and newly infected, with graphs for each statistic. Actually for the US, they have a lot more other numbers/predictions as well:

US deaths surpass Most likely date
100,000 May 27, 2020
125,000 Jun 22, 2020
150,000 Jul 15, 2020

And this is awesome:
https://covid19-projections.com/us-1weekearlier
If the US had shut down a week earlier, current cumulative deaths would be at 38K, and projection for Aug 4 is 61K.

https://covid19-projections.com/us-1weeklater
If the US had shut down a week later, current cumulative deaths would be at 301K, and projection for Aug 4 is 456K.

What's the best move when getting called out for posting bullshit?

Post a link to an article from a bullshit rag? probably

JayMcnasty definitely got F's on papers in high school for citing their cousin as a source.

just because you see dumbass people saying "hur hur, somebody died in a car crash and they said it was covid!!" doesn't mean there aren't, in fact, misdiagnosed deaths. or did they completely fabricate the Connecticut governor's tweets as well?

I didn't see that concluded anywhere in the article, it just says the coroner wasn't ready to attribute it to covid yet until toxicology reports are done. It also says the police found no evidence of trauma, which probably would have been present if it was crushed by his mom.

it also said it could be "positional asphyxiation" so maybe the baby wasn't "crushed" as much as in a position where it couldn't breathe, possibly as a result of being up against its mom

2 of my uncles died as a result of this virus.

They both had dementia and neither could care for themselves anymore.

One of them was my cousins dad, and she is a nurse on a Covid-19 floor of a hospital in Connecticut. She said verbatim on a zoom call that they are being pressured to categorize deaths as Covid-19 when the actual cause is questionable.

I understand it is a dangerous disease

I wear a mask in public

I don't think we should cower in fear and keep local economies shut down

More comments about The Coz's praising of CCP: they become more and more aggressive after the pandemic--the Kungfu panda(so-called dragon warrior) evolves into greedy yet violent wolf warrior. Lots of blames and criticism towards us. So pretty dangerous.

China locked down cities (like...actually locked them down), built entire hospitals in under a month, tested 6.5 million people in a few days, and delivered food to people while they stayed home. Not exactly surprising that they have far fewer cases and deaths than us.

First of all, how do you know all of that is true? You don't. And second of all, you're dumb if you think the CCP isn't suppressing information on a massive scale.

(and I'm not arguing that that they didn't do a good job, or a better job than the U.S. of slowing down the spread and deaths)

Even all these data are real, it's because of the help from all over the world. You ignite a fire, can't decease it, and make it expand to everywhere. Of course everyone else worries about you and needs to help you to completely get rid of it at your place.
So they HAD to flatten the curve probably, even if they were cheating, b/c of the pressure.

This has all been widely reported on by western news outlets.

Testing: https://www.nytimes.com/2020/05/26/world/asia/coronavirus-wuhan-tests.html
Hospitals: https://www.cnn.com/2020/02/07/asia/wuhan-coronavirus-hospital-design-intl-hnk/index.html
Lockdown: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/COVID-19_pandemic_lockdown_in_Hubei
Medicine and food delivery: https://www.npr.org/sections/goatsandsoda/2020/03/08/812925775/photos-in-a-coronavirus-crisis-delivery-workers-can-be-a-lifeline

It's a fact that the measures they've taken to protect people have been far superior to those in the US. Diverting away from this to parrot vague claims of "information suppression" makes you a tool of the Trump state department.

CCCP&CCP are really good at these kind of stuff b/c they have a long history treating humans like animals. Animal Farm is a classic book for reference. On the contrary, this is not allowed to happen in the free world. It obeys human rights.

Seeing the patients. Talking to them, knowing their ailments, knowing the situations. She is a very grounded person. You can armchair it all you want, but if she says it, it is absolute truth. She's far from a conspiracy theorist and not one to stir controversy

So there’s no evidence to suggest fraudulent reporting. But for context, this theory comes from the fact that hospitals will receive higher rates from Medicare for treating covid patients (not just deaths). So you can see why this theory has gained some traction. But there’s no evidence suggesting it’s true. Furthermore, there’s a good chance we’re underreported deaths since there’s still not enough testing and we’re largely unable to account for at-home deaths.

This also points out how fucked up our healthcare system is but that’s an entirely different discussion.

I'd say more than a good chance

Both can be true at the same time tho. If I had to wager a guess I'd surmise the second situation has a larger statistical effect.

Well if you think social distancing is bullshit, then to not be hypocritical the protests from a public health perspective should be no issue. The only issue to rail against these protests then is damage to property, individuals, and respect for rule of law.

If you think social distancing is not bullshit and it should be followed, then to not be hypocritical these protests are just as bad as the ones you railed against a month or two ago of people protesting around state capitols to tell the state governments to open up.

So if you said last month's protests were done by stupid and bad people, for you to be ideologically consistent, so were the ones from this past week. Yet somehow people that appear to talk on TV will not live by this conundrum.
