Not sure if posted, but Dane Kane was on All Things Considered recently.

you know, that Dan Kane, you know, sounds like the dude.

Look. Man, I've got certain information, all right?
Certain things have come to light, and...
You know, has it ever occurred to you
that instead of, you know, running around,
blaming tutors, given the nature of all this new shit,
this could be a lot more,...
.. complex?
I mean, it might not be just such a simple,
You know?

Yeah, I don't really think that has much to do with UNC, there's probably thousands of stories like that of former college athletes. That's sad.

so Wadell was let in as a partial qualifier, magically "graduated" in 4 years, then was admitted to grad school with a low GPA, no GRE, past the deadline for application and shockingly didn't go to class do the work and flunked out with 4 Fs

SHOCKER

but still nothing to see here NCAA no sanctions needed

Nope. Our former athletes have some bizarrely unlucky/sad stories. People rub them in our faces like we're supposed to be ashamed or some nonsense, but I love all those guys.

And we've been ridiculed for years for our presumably low graduation rate of student-athletes and students.

I dunno...maybe if we'd been in the business of handing out degrees, some of our guys coulda briefly afforded their drug habits without having to "kidnap" one of First Lady Hillary Clinton's personal attorneys. I doubt it though. Life sucks for everyone, including people who are super good at sports.

http://www.wralsportsfan.com/apnewsbreak-former-player-arrested-in-nc-sports-agent-probe/14639966/

Quote :
"A former college football player has been arrested and charged with acting as an agent and violating North Carolina's law that bars illegally luring collegiate athletes into contracts.

Chris Hawkins faces a court appearance Tuesday afternoon in Orange County.

According to arrest warrants made public Tuesday, Hawkins faces two charges of trying to induce former Tar Heels defensive end Robert Quinn to sign a contract with him in 2010 — by giving Quinn $13,700 in cash, and by helping him sell game-used equipment for another $1,700. Quinn now plays for the St. Louis Rams.

Hawkins, 32, also is charged with intentionally initiating contact with former UNC defensive back Jabari Price in 2013 via Instagram without being a registered agent, and of intentionally failing to register as an athlete agent.

Hawkins, arrested Monday, is being held Tuesday in the Orange County Jail on $500,000 bond. It was not immediately known if the former defensive back at North Carolina and Marshall has an attorney.

North Carolina is one of 43 states with a sports agent law. Hawkins is the sixth person to be arrested in the North Carolina Secretary of State's long-running probe connected to improper benefits for Tar Heels football players. That probe began in summer 2010 amid an NCAA investigation into the program.

Five people were indicted in September 2013, including Georgia-based agent Terry Watson, though prosecutor Jim Woodall later dropped the charge against a former UNC tutor charged in the case.

The NCAA suspended current Cincinnati Bengals receiver A.J. Green five years ago when he was at Georgia for selling his Independence Bowl jersey for $1,000 to Hawkins, saying at the time that it regarded Hawkins as an agent.

Dick Baddour, North Carolina's athletic director at the time, said then that Hawkins, who had been seen around the team's facility periodically at the time, was no longer welcome around the program.

"We are always having to defend ourselves and how we do things based on what other coaches are saying is going to happen to our school and our program based on actions from the past; and then show and prove that those things aren’t going to happen and most of the things being said are made up. But if you throw enough things up against the wall some things are bound to stick and create confusion and doubt with the recruit. I mean, we’ve been told by families that some coaches will give them a copy of the Wainstein Report as their recruiting pitch. We have so many positive things to discuss and focus on about our school and our program, but my staff has to clear away the confusion in order to get to the many positives that UNC has to offer...You can recruit true student-athletes because you’re going to get a world-class education while also competing in football at the highest level.”"

lol to even put world-class education in the same sentence as football at UNC right now is a joke. also, how do you show and prove that sanctions aren't coming? UNC doesn't even know. If their coaches are "proving" anything they're basically guaranteeing there won't be any post-season penalties (which surely there will be), which is extremely unfair and dishonest to their recruits.

Great comment from the Fedora article, happy Friday:

Quote :
"Larry why don't you start disciplining your players so they don't beat walk-ons unconscious or destroy Duke's locker room like the no-class hoodlums they really are? Maybe then your rivals from down I-40 won't kick the Vagisil out of your shaved boxes on National TV and 2nd rate schools like ECWHO? don't lay 70 on your wet paper bag defense. It isn't going to get any better once the NCAA drops sanctions...stop crying, put your house on the market and move on to a real football program. Why waste all your coaching talent trying to entertain 16,500 Gender Studies majors every Saturday?"

this is great though, when you compound this lie onto everything thats already happened = profit.

(more negative recruiting ammo for NC Hate)

oh, and at the "world class education" statement some posts above. I am milking the shit out of that ROI report.

Didn't the football program already serve some punishment? Scholarships, post season ban, and vacated wins? Was that all for the improper benefits?

I'm not defending that statement at all just trying to remember.

^Yeah I believe that was all proper benefits so this could be entirely new, though they'll probably try to spin it as time served.

If they do get hit again, then that would be awesome for negative recruiting because basically everyone could just say the staff is completely untrustworthy. Would probably take a whole new staff to clean that off.

Previous football penalties were for one of their recruiters acting as a facilitator for an agent and football players taking impermissible benefits from said agent and the tutor. The tutor writing a few papers was a factor for a few people being made ineligible but not for the penalties at large for their football program, IIRC.
