what exactly is a "serial" anyway?

i think i'm right with this...

it basically could be any tv show, but it refers to a show where the action and storyline are continuous throughout

a show like Seinfeld is a tv show, but from one episode to the next, the plots completely change up...well at least they don't build on the existing episode every time as a rule

whereas something like The Wire, or a soap opera, or 24 or Lost would be classified as a serial
