UNC released their response to the NOA.

Surprised they didnt wait until tomorrow, the day before a national holiday weekend.

They didn't wait because they give no shits. They're basically saying it's not the NCAA's concern and they've been cooperative the whole time.

Selling shoes? I don’t know. I don’t see how that could be such a big deal. Surely nobody would ever get punished for something so tame.

^I think they got him on the cover up

Quote :
"Facing the biggest crisis of his career, Tressel never once apologized for knowingly breaking NCAA rules during a news conference on the Ohio State campus on Tuesday night. Worse, Tressel never owned up to not telling his bosses or NCAA investigators that he was aware that at least two of his players might have accepted improper benefits from the owner of a tattoo parlor in Columbus, Ohio."

Selling shoes sure sounds like a lack of institutional control.

Breaking news. 13 UNC players will be suspended as a result of the NCAA investigation into the selling of gear. One is QB Chazz Surratt. Story to come soon."

NCAA lets them do whatever they want for the most part.

I won't be surprised if they appeal/sue the NCAA over this.

Nothing regarding UNC and the NCAA surprises me anymore.

it is pretty damn comical just how much shit has come out from UNC...obviously it's now like 5 different "scandals" since the original Marvin Austin tweet got shit rolling. and while the punishment hasn't been as harsh as most of us would have liked...it's still almost a comedy of errors on their part at this point. and the "carolina way" died long long ago. fuck em

apparently the staggering of suspensions is only because their two starting defensive ends both got suspended, so for "player safety concerns" they won't be missing both of their DEs in any game. Not sure how that has anything to do with player safety though. It would make the opposing QB too safe?

So what happens if one DE gets hurt before the other serves his suspension? Does he just not have to serve it since it's effectively the same damn thing?

if Florida State is Free Shoes U, what is UNC, University of Nike Commerce? I don't really like the C there but there must be something more clever out there.

I love how they are staggering the suspensions. Just typical NCAA bs.

"UNC asked us if they could stagger the suspensions, so these sanctions wouldn't hurt their chances of winning any of the upcoming football games. We thought that was a reasonable request and told them to make sure they didn't miss any key players for any big games."

I hate the staggering suspension thing too, but they're just exploiting a loophole that Charleston Southern created a few years ago. They NEEDED to stagger suspensions(30+ kids) because of lack of depth and bodies at certain positions. UNC claims they don't have enough bodies at DE to "safely" suspend 3 of them at the same time.

So they were allowed to stagger the suspension of their 2 starting DEs. Honestly not sure what's better. Playing extra short-handed for 4 games, or playing short-handed 8 games. Esp given the DL was supposed to be the best part of their D this year.

I think the spreading of suspensions for safety issues is bullshit. Three defensive ends (only two starters) when you have like 13-15 d-lineman is a joke. If it was 4 or 5...okay. And I don't think you should be able to skip the first game. Stagger them, but they have to start with game 1 and then come in succession. Its like putting a dude in prison but then letting him get to pick when it starts...and then letting him choose which prison he wants to go to.

Also, 15 players sold their shoes but 2 of them don't even get a 1-game suspension for some reason?
