What is your opinion on school resource officer roles?
http://www.wral.com/wake-school-board-looks-at-role-of-resource-officers/13696308/
There is a specific case in this article where is seems the law was justified in arresting this "kid"...
Quote : | "Garcia, 17, was arrested in March for repeatedly hitting a student on a bus and threatening a teacher at Southeast Raleigh Magnet High School." |
I'm not sure how the case can be made that a violent crime like this SHOULDN'T be prosecuted legally.
every school i've worked at the resource officer was a vital part of the community and I never saw (or even heard of) frivolous arrests.6/4/2014 12:06:53 AM |

(obviously i don't know any of the detail of that case any more than were posted in the above article)
and yes, it looks like she had some home life issues, and there are statistics the NAACP has presented that shows minorities have a higher per capita arrest rate... to me that shouldn't mean not to arrest people when a crime is committed... to me the solution is to put interventions in place to prevent crimes for at risk kids in the first place, which i see happening every day on a school, and resource officer level. 6/4/2014 12:17:46 AM |

It is a really tough job because you have to battle knucklehead students, parents who think they gave birth to angels, teacher who can be just as whiny as the students and administrators who want to sweep everything under the rug. If you don't have an SRO, you have line guys trying to juggle those stake holders and might not understand that relationship and how to balance them. On the other hand, if you have a City performing those duties or even a county, the SRO sometimes get caught up doing administrative stuff for the school like a student walked off campus and they go driving around to haul'em back.
My interactions with my former departments SROs was always positive (except for one instance and that officer and her husband still hold a grudge), because they balanced those relationships and assisted when we had a crime involving a student of theirs.

The Negotiator is on HBO right now
which is the more likely outcome at the end of the movie:
1. what we saw on screen, bad guys go away, and Danny goes to the hospital and lives happily ever after?
2. when Danny arrives at the hospital, his innocence proven, he is arrested for kidnapping, assault with a deadly weapon, hostage taking, assault on a police officer, destruction of state property, resisting arrest, and a whole bunch of other shit he did during the movie? 6/4/2014 9:07:10 PM |

So apparently last night I was robbed. Must have left one of my car doors unlocked as this morning I found the glove box and center console rummaged through. Looks like all they actually took was my car seat and an auxiliarry cable that connects my phone to the radio so I can listen to music.
There were several other items in the car that were probably more worth taking so I can only assume this was a very quick grab what you can and go situation.
I have already filed the online police report, which I obviously expect nothing to come of but it cant hurt to let them know where crime is taking place. Is there anything else I should really do at this point? I figure I will go around and let the neighbors know just to be aware as it happened in my driveway overnight.
Based on previous experience should I be worried about them returning or possibly escalating this to actually breaking into my car or house? 6/9/2014 10:26:02 AM |

Agreed, but they were two items I use frequently so now I have to be bothered to go buy new ones and anytime you get robbed then you get stuck with that thought in your head and it makes you paranoid. Very thankful they didnt snag the garage door opener as that would have opened up a whole other mess of problems. Left my nice jacket, thing of cds, several iphone charger cables, along with the sub and amp in the trunk which is what i assumed they would have taken first thing. Just hoping they didnt think that far ahead and arent aware its there to come back and get later. 6/9/2014 11:24:25 AM |

According to my department's policy and I'm assuming most others, even though the emergency equipment is activated we still obey traffic law/signs for a funeral escort. So we stop at right lights, stop signs, and for stopped school buses. 6/10/2014 9:03:25 AM |

You could be right but funeral processions often run red lights. Of course the lead emergency vehicle makes sure it's safe. 6/10/2014 9:36:55 AM |

Doss2k - We had the same thing happen last year. I came out to my car and found everything from the glove box and center console all over my passenger seat, but they didn't take anything, despite there being a few items like my credit card, an inverter, chargers, loose change, even some of my wife's jewelry. I didn't report it since nothing was taken, but found out few weeks later that other neighbors reported similar larcenies, the only thing people mentioned taken was cash. A Cary Police Officer commented on our NextDoor thread about it, they were looking into it and encouraged everyone to file a report whenever something happened so they could gather stats based on the reports. He also said that it's almost certainly just kids looking for petty cash.

The owner owns the house, until someone with a valid lien takes it. The HOA jumped first, got paid, but if the bank note is not current they will come after it soon.
This guy can camp in this house and pay nothing until the bank comes knocking and throws him out. 6/12/2014 10:22:01 PM |

Would it fall under brandishing or something?

I would thank that it falls under ยง 15A-401(f)(1)
A person is not justified in using a deadly weapon or deadly force to resist an arrest by a law-enforcement officer using reasonable force, when the person knows or has reason to know that the officer is a law-enforcement officer and that the officer is effecting or attempting to effect an arrest.
Quote : | "Do "let go with a warning" get entered into record?" |
At my first department, it kept in our records management system. For instance, if I ran your tag, it would pop up how many times you were stopped and the disposition of the case. It just stayed locally.6/19/2014 6:22:50 PM |

I think the question is stipulating that this isn't a "resisting arrest" scenario (more like you come across an officer beating down someone else) and the officer is using what appears to be excessive force which is threatening the beatee's life.
Not that would I ever carry a gun, but even if i did, it would take a fucked up scenario to cause me to pull it out and point it at an officer...and this ain't one of them. I bet my presence alone would be of some benefit to the beatee.6/20/2014 12:21:26 AM |

Lol thanks restricted didn't quite have to be a dick tho hoss.
Guy is actually a former marine that just likes to shoot and rather than drive his 1 ton truck we were joking about the scenario of him riding his bike to the range since where we go is 2 hours from him. I told him looking like a Taliban member on a klr650 was probably brandishing or disturbing the peace or something.
None of us think we are tacti-cool (which by that picture I'm assuming you do think you are) just like to shoot and a ak is a cheap ass way to throw rounds down range that still teach you not to be recoil sensitive. 6/20/2014 7:57:41 AM |
Jeepin4x4 #Pack9 35774 Posts user info edit post |
sounds like impeding arrest = resisting arrest in that scenario. either way, you are preventing the officer from doing his job while knowingly interfering with a law enforcement officer.

i don't know the correct answer, but the safest answer would be for A to turn first because B can see both the oncoming traffic and A, but A can only see the oncoming traffic 6/25/2014 9:30:55 AM |

thinking about it some more, i bet those are considered different intersections so B would have to watch and yield to A like it would any other oncoming traffic.

Jeepin4x4 #Pack9 35774 Posts user info edit post |
^^,^ these are both what I assume. I am vehicle A every morning and usually don't have an issue with pulling into traffic when safe. But the past 3 mornings, after arriving first and coming to a stop, i've had car B pull out right in front of me and then look at like i'm the person in fault when i have to hit the brakes and allow them to complete their hard turn into traffic.
I feel like car A should also be allowed to go first because the intersection is angled more like a yielding intersection, allowing you to enter the right lane at a good angle whereas the B vehicle must make a slower, sharp turn. 6/25/2014 10:11:52 AM |
