If all you want to do is make money, mining/herbs is a safe bet. Crafting professions are typically not money makers, unless you get a rare, epic pattern drop. I started leveling blacksmithing in the mid 50's and it was a complete bitch, so I wouldn't suggest dropping it if you think it might ever appeal to you in the future.
Current craftable PVP weapons are beastly and crafted resistance sets are always needed for raiding. The felsteel/khorium sets are decent starters at end game for warriors/paladins.
After the mithril order questlines, you get Glimmering Mithril Insignia, which is a trinket with a 20 minute cooldown that makes you immune to fear for 30 seconds and raises resistances. It can't be used in arena.
Somewhere in the mid-levels you get a summonable epic weapon, which could be nice.

you missed the point(s). you need to dual wield and shocks are a decent chunk of your dps. go unlearn hammersmithing, get axesmithing, get a planar edge and get a 2.5-2.7 OH. hastes + dual wielding = fucked swing timers and wf normalization. get rid of that abacus as well. 4/20/2007 12:11:26 PM |

What does haste do for a slow two hander? 4/20/2007 2:51:03 PM |
God All American 28747 Posts user info edit post |
speed... it... up?
slower weapons have a higher top end damage, so they are preferred for classes like rogues and warriors who do most of their damage through abilities that do "weapon damage + xxxx" like sinister strike or mortal strike
shamans, on the other hand, get their dps through windfury weapon procs, which when dual weilding (and before the upcoming nerf) happen faster with faster weapons. when I am weilding two weapons with both haste procs on them and they both proc my swing speed is about 0.50 PER weapon.
of course, with the upcoming windfury nerf that will become obsolete

Yea our OT was a bit emo this week but I'm hesitant to grab another tank when Vehz' warrior is up for transfer in two or so weeks. After that things should be ezmode.
As for bringing an ench shaman into a 10 man raid, the outlook is pretty bleak.
I'd much rather pickup a warlock instead since with a shadow priest pre patch he'll do retarded damage.
So far our makeup looks something like this
2xwarrior 2xpaladin 2xpriest (1 shadow) 1xwarlock 1xhunter 1xrogue 1xmage
And I'm thinking of just alternating Gronke in with the rogue(skankinmonkey/vehz) since they do comparable dps. 4/20/2007 3:28:29 PM |

FYI it isnt a WF nerf, its a bug fix, it was never intended to put different lvl of WF on each weapon so it would stack, bug fix doesnt = nerf. Same with rogues and the assassination set bonus, sure my dps is going to go down thanks to it, but its obviously a bug fix not a nerf. 4/20/2007 3:29:41 PM |

^I don't think you understand the problem here.
The way Windfury works is that you can only proc it every 3 seconds. The original problem was that both weapons in a dual wield setup share the same cooldown. As you know, you do 50% less damage with your offhand. If the offhand procs, this will effectively steal the windfury proc from your mainhand and cause you to do 50% less damage than you normally would. People were under the impression that this shared cooldown was a bug and the workaround was to put two different ranks on your mainhand and your offhand.
Blizzard decided that enhancment shamans doing almost comparable damage to rogues or warlocks (hell, I had to be wielding an epic to try and keep up with a rogue in blues) was too much, even though we don't have any of the other helpful utility things that rogues or warlocks have as a dps class like crowd control.
So the fix for them was to make it so that downranking windfury would still trigger the same cooldown. This means that our 50% less damage offhands are going to be stealing half of our damage and stealing the windfury proc from our mainhand weapon. Hell, there are going to be occasions where the offhand might steal the windfury 10x in a row, and then we'll really be hitting mobs with wet noodles.
The point is shamans need a rebuild, period. Our enhancement tree is so messed up. I mean look at it, shield using talent points and dual wield talent points and 2 handed talent points IN THE SAME TREE. That'd be like if you just combined all three warrior talent trees into some shitty thing that no one wanted to spec into.
Not to mention we have all these talents that are supposed to help with hybridization (elemental devastation, anyone?) but absolutely no gear that helps us be hybrids. If paladins get plate with str/sta/dmg/heal why can't we? Oh, and some high dps maces with high dmg/heal on them would be good also.

Orrrrrr... you could simply put say rockbiter on your offhand which is a straight dps buff now from what i remember, WF on mainhand and then not have to worry about that problem. Ive never been enhancement and dont plan to spec that way so maybe I dont feel your pain, but shamans shouldnt be able to dps as much as a rogue, neither should druids but they havent fixed that yet, shamans are a utility class and hence should be ok at everything but not super awesome at something so I cant really agree with you on most things haha 4/20/2007 3:59:03 PM |

thats the problem as you hinted at later. when your weapon speed drops that low, you have extra swings (extra misses) that "go to waste," that don't have a chance to proc wf. by getting more +hit and keeping your weapons as close to 3.0 as possible, you avoid swing timer round off and "wasted" swings, maximizing yellow and white damage. also, everytime you miss or dodge or parry, your swing timer is bugged and has to reset. this is why you want to dual wield, to avoid (as much) dead time, and be more consistant. there's no real normalization to unleashed rage, and dual wielding you have a better chance to keep it up 100% of the time.

Well I think a 90 DPS spell damage sword and specific +spell damage plate gear would give a prot paladin retarded amounts of collateral damage and increased ilvl on items like that would scale way out of control.
Can you imagine getting attacked by a druid or rogue, proc'n reckoning, bubbling and unleashing 4 attacks at 800 damage a swing? 4/20/2007 4:21:14 PM |

what people need to remember about druids is that feral druids dont follow the same guidelines as other classes when it comes to scaling, and when we get to end game, we stop really progressing. rogues will pass us on dps, warriors will pass us in tanking, and we'll be left to heal. all will be right in the world.

I asked my simple 'what does haste do' question because I'm wondering if I, a retribution paladin with seal of command, should put it on my two-handers (currently Oathkeeper, 3.7 speed). SoC procs 7 times per minute I think, so making Oathkeeper a faster weapon wouldn't be exactly beneficial to procs...maybe? It would increase white damage then, more swings, but still be slow enough for SoC to proc every once in a while.
So, lemme rephrase, should I use +haste items on two-handers for combining with SoC?
Also, should I be going for +spell crit or +crit? I find retri paladins get most damage from crits but I'm trying to find which way to lean towards in order to maximize DPS.
Yea, lol at DPS paladin, but I'm trying it out rather than going along with all the sheep. 4/20/2007 4:46:50 PM |

^^No, because then you're entire lot will bitch and moan and they'll add a random mace to Arena gear that has 1200+ AP in cat, bear, or Optimus Prime form.
They'll also add "primal" form that turns you into this:
Seriously, don't talk to me about druids.

Heavy Clefthoof: Add about 200 armor to each piece, then subtract 4-5 stamina and 4-5 defense rating.
Tier 4: Everything is basically the same, just with +100-200 armor added to it and the +spirit stripped off. Yes, this blows the doors off of almost everything else in terms of Emmerald tanking points (and the 4-piece bonus is just icing now, jeez).
Braxxis Staff of Slumber: +38 stamina Earthwarden: +39 stamina, +2 defense rating (!!!!!! hot DAMN)
Unberhowl's Collar, Manimal's Cinch, Ash-Tempered Legs: +3 str Verdant Gloves: +6 str Supple Leather Boots: +3 str, -30 ap
Chestguard of the Talon: +3 sta Jerkin of the Untamed Spirit: + 3 str, +3 agi
Cloak of the Valiant Defender: +45 armor Thoriumweave Cloak: +72 armor Gilded Thorium Cloak: +60 armor Resolute Cape: +60 armor
s, Verdant Gloves: +3 strength (yeah, I know, weaksauce)
Idol of the Wild (yes, the old green +mangle damage one): +200 more damage to kitty form (no, I'm not making it up), and something like +5 more damage for bear form.
Tier 5: Just go look up the stats now. It's basically tier 4 on steroids (including even more armor), with the exception that the gloves are properly itemized with +agility...
Theoretically, the violet eye rep tanking rings are going to get 50-75 more armor tacked onto them (currently, the honored version is the only one that's changed, giving it more amor than even the exalted version. Oops!)
What were you saying about druidic itemization?

In my old guild, we were always looking for a DPS shaman for our Kara raids. Their interrupts are all but neccesary for Shade and Romeo + Juliet. Not to mention our ENH sham would always be in the top 3 dps on boss fights (only losing to me, the afflic warlock grouped with shadow priest).
Hunters and rogues are the last classes that should get Kara spots. 4/20/2007 5:19:43 PM |

If I had my way I'd have a UI with like 5 buttons on it and nothing else. Hell, I really only use like maybe 10 buttons 90% of the time.
