Compared to Earth, it's relatively small.

I think they have said it's almost twice as large as Oblivion, and like 4 times the size of GTA4.

I was being sarcastic, i thought GTA4 was small because everything looked exactly the same.

GTA:SA seems a shit ton bigger because its so diverse. I got bored of oblivion because it was so large and there was almost no indication of what you should be doing at any given time, which i'm sure this game is not... [sales meme]

^^its a pretty good idea, i just went to walmart for modern warfare 2, about 11:30 for the midnight release, was like 6th in line, got out with it by 12:15, drove by gamestop (which is right next to walmart in asheville) and there was a huge fucking line

If you've ever done the gamestop midnight release you'll know that the line is deceiving. If you are dead last in that huge line you will be out by 12:10 - 12:15 worst case.

Well, I can at least say that the one in crossroads is a breeze. Their system works great. You show up and pay for it/check in before 11:50ish, they mark your receipt, you get in line. When 12am rolls around they just pass the game out in the store one small group at a time.

Was in the back of the line for MW2 and wasn't there more than 10 minutes when the doors opened

I've done a few midnight releases back in my day (Dreamcast 9/9/99), but are you guys doing the midnight release to ensure you've got a copy or just to get the adrenaline flowing? Seems like, whenever a hot release comes out, most places stock the fuck out of it and it's not that hard to get a copy the first day of release. Just off the top of my head, I can think of MGS4, GTA4, RE5 and Uncharted 2 where I just walked into Best Buy on day 1 with no line and grabbed a copy. That being said, I probably just jinxed myself. There will probably be a 3-week shortage on this motherfucker.

Only midnight release I've done is Halo 2 at gamestop, I did it so we could do some midnight 8 player LAN battles that night.


Also I kind of did a halo 3 midnight release, but it wasn't a preorder or anything, basically just going to a 24 hour walmart in a small town, there were like 15 people there for the release.

agreed. i got Uncharted 2, COD World at War, and GTA4 all on release day without pre-ordering. However, i did pre-order MW2 and this game just to be safe. I won't go at midnight because I have to be at work way too early to stay up playing. But i will definitely be stopping by Gamestop during my lunch break

Just gotta say, hugeness is really just an over-rated time sink when the world isn't filled with actual content.

Not that RDR has this issue. I certainly haven't played it yet to know. Probably not bad in this regard, though, knowing Rockstar.

got it at wally world last night at 12. one other dude there.

so first thing i did was jump in multiplayer. immediately get shot at by a dude who i kill with my revolver.

then i figure out how to call my mount and a little donkey comes riding up. i laughed.

but then i got dropped repeatedly back into single player. guess their servers were getting hammered?

Poker is actually pretty damn fun- while I'm a complete noob to poker, even my roommates (including GrumpyGOP) were having fun advising me on what moves to make to knock the last man standing out.

Also, watch out for committing random murders in-town (at least without something to cover your face). I got into a shootout early on outside a saloon and ended up in a chase with a number of lawmen. That was easy enough to escape, but a bounty will continue on your head until you either pay it off or find a pardon letter to clear your name.

I've also gone about 0/20 at trying to capture convicts/bounties alive by shooting in the legs...I suppose firing a revolver round into the femoral artery doesn't help that endeavor...the lasso seems to be the better choice there (along with some better aim on my part). Admittedly, it is pretty sweet seeing someone you've shot react realistically by slowly trying to crawl or sit up into a position to shoot you again (that's also one of the primary reasons most of my targets cease to live at the end of a gunfight).

is there something similar to the ambulance, fire fighter, police missions in GTA IV? I usually do those first to get the perks like more health, armor, etc.

^^ Non-linear story line missions come around in the form of strangers and they are everywhere...

** This is the most visually stunning game I've played on Xbox360, though... Riding on top of the ridges at sunset is ridiculous. Does it have variable weather (rain/snow/clouds/etc)? I've only seen sunshine and stars. Sound isn't bad either -- I hear animals and birds on all sides of me.
