The team is bad. Can’t compete inside against any of the teams they’ve played against so far. Even though CC is trying to make some passes that are ill advised her teammates have failed to catch some passes that any of the Iowa players would have caught. The Fever have a ceiling of making the playoffs this year. Realistically they are a 10-13 win team, maybe 15. Clark stands around too much off the ball, is a defensive liability against the more physical pro game. That’ll improve with time but a week or two of practice and two preseason games can’t prepare you for the difference between college and pro game.

CC has a lot of raw talent, but she put up gaudy numbers in college by being a ball hog. Her fg % and 3pt % numbers weren't great. She took a ton of shots, even if they weren't falling for a quarter or quarters.


What about all those assists she had? Her AST/TO ratio wasn't great.

She's kind of like the overly-enthusiastic-pick-up-game-guy that runs point, but is all over the court trying to be involved in everything going on all at once. You don't really want him on your team, but he does keep the action going.

She'll get better as she meshes with her team, but she needs less yes men/women around her and more hazing (not in the literal sense, but she does need to be humbled by some vets).

Man I'm no CC fan but 38% is a phenomenal percentage on 14 3s per game as the primary scorer against the other teams top defender and double teams with pressure out to half court.

And it's not like she was shooting them into the toilet! They won 3 straight conf championships and went to two final fours!

She's probably the Luka or LeFlop of complaining, but that hasn't really been established after 3 games. (Kind of like it can't be established yet if she will be an all-star, Kickstand. )

So I don't watch women's basketball much, its just not my cup of tea. I realize for whatever reason the sports media has annointed Caitlin Clark. I know she is a good shooter and set the collegiate scoring record.

I also know that the WNBA had an increase in ratings last season, not sure if that had to do with Britney Griner and her prisoner exchange from Russia or the talent. So CC is on a pretty bad team from what I can tell, yet they are getting the bulk of the nationally televised games. I am sure thats gotta annoy some players on teams that are really good, like the Las Vegas and New York.

So was that a flagrant foul yes. I also think its telling that none of her teammates are rushing to defend her, its almost like she thinks she is bigger than the game.

That's what I was saying. Both of them take a high percentage of 3's, comparatively, but they rank lower in terms of 3 point field goal percentage.

I think a happy medium needs to be reached here. CC needs to stop trying to flop so much to draw fouls, I agree with TGL she’s gonna get hurt. And the league needs to let up some…some. If both things happen, I see great things ahead for the WNBA. They’ve got at least three good rookies that are making waves, and now Martin has gotten into the fray with some of her comments backing up CC.

It’s unfortunate that people are only chiming in for the drama and not just watching good basketball, but hey ratings are ratings.

Narratives and drama are why people watch sports. It’s why we have so many sports talk shows where people just fire off their hot takes. It’s why the NFL gets insane coverage all through the offseason. People generally aren’t tuning for in depth X and O breakdowns. They want the storylines of Kyrie going back to Boston. Or a hot shot rookie coming in and either taking the league by storm or getting her welcome to the league moments. The quality of the product matters. But the storylines and individuals are what sells in all sports.
