Just signed up for 50/10 internet plus cable for $49.95/month for 6 months in Denver. Woohoo. That's almost twice the download and twice the upload compared to what I pay in Charlotte and I don't get cable here.

Woah. AT&T DSL lets you have 150GB/mo of internet data. They charge you $10 for every 50GB thereafter. Nice fine print AT&T.

Just dropped off my TWC modem yesterday and half the people in the line were paying their monthly bill via a Check or the "express pay" machine. WTF?

No, I'm not dumb, they didn't get me. I'm ok with a speed test tolerance a little below 50, but not ok with 5 when 20 was promised.

Anyway, got busy moving in and still need to call them to find out if the guy lied or something is misconfigured. Three bets on he lied. And three bets on me downgrading to 30/5 since I was only doing 50 for the higher upload speed--that I'm not getting.

Just received an email stating the same thing. Is there a list of cable modems I can just buy to get around this bullshit? Is it a pain in the ass to get TWC to allow customers to use their own hardware?

Best bet to future-proof yourself is to get the $86 White Motorola SB6141 (max 343 Mbps).

http://www.amazon.com/ARRIS-Motorola-SurfBoard-SB6141-DOCSIS/dp/B00AJHDZSI/

But if you are less than 30Mbps and don't ever care to go above that, you can spend slightly less for the $70 Motorola SB6121 (max 160Mbps).

Yeah, this "renting" issue is a new version of the phone company renting out the home phone ... which people STILL do today. What?

http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/news/offbeat/2006-09-14-phone_x.htm

Quote :
"Until two months ago [July 2006], Strogen was still paying AT&T to use the phones — $29.10 every three months, the phone company says.

[...]

The number of customers leasing phones dropped from 40 million [at its peak] nationwide to about 750,000 today, said John Skalko, spokesman for Murray Hill, N.J.-based Lucent Technologies, a spinoff of AT&T that manages the residential leasing service.

"We will continue to lease sets as long as there is a demand for them," Skalko said."

Because people are just demanding to pay again-and-again for a fixed-cost item.

And here we are 6 years later with still 300,000 people demanding to rent phone equipment:

http://consumerist.com/2012/04/30/hundreds-of-thousands-of-people-are-still-leasing-their-home-phones/

Sadness.

Good luck. As soon as you downgrade to 30/5 you'll start getting 12/2, and the conversation where you try to explain to TWC that you were just getting in excess of 30/5 before the downgrade so you know it's technically possible for your line to achieve the quoted speeds will be like banging your head against the wall. I've been there.

I pay for 30/5 so in general I'm pleased .... however on the aforementioned "wifi" modem, I get 2mb down and 7 up on my wifi, and it only extends about half way into the room next to my office. I assume I should just call them and get them to replace my modem so it doesn't suck dick on wifi ?! I've been through the changing channel etc phone call with them already

fucking twc fuckers... they significantly raised our rates 2 weeks ago, but i called when i received the bill, and negotiated down before it went into effect. i got a letter in the mail TODAY that said the "promotional rate" i received would expire at the end of THIS MONTH. I'm going to costco today to get their direct tv promotion.

I got rid of cable altogether a few months ago (still have internet through TWC). I'm very happy with that decision.

^^That just means hes out of stock and doesnt want to sell anymore (because he cant).

I just got a letter telling me my promo rate has expired, and my bill will go up to $64/month (have cable modem, but no cable service). Time to call and complain and talk about how AT&T U-verse people keep dropping by...

Told timewarner I was moving. They let me out of some stupid contract they had me in. Still says I owe 67 dollars but then I call and they say they are mailing me a check. What fools. Anyways I have DirectTV now and it is SO MUCH BETTER!

^ wait until year 2 starts and the promotional pricing drops off. My DirecTV just went from $67/mo. to $110/mo. I've got the Choice Xtra package and Whole House DVR (2 receivers total). No Premium channels. But once I get to where I have 10 months left in my contract (in 2 more months), I'll cancel it and start over. DirecTV charges $20 per month left on the contract if you cancel, but they offer a $200 gift card to new customers.

Or the other option is to just cancel it now and go without TV for a few days. Last time I canceled it only took them 3 days for the "We want you back" phone calls to start.

Just landed 30mpbs TWC for $60 (after fees and taxes) after a little hardball. Was previously on $110 for 30mbps + Digital Cable, but post-promotion + fees went to $140.

$60 for 30mbps seems pretty good to me.

^ That's what I'm on right now (a little over 2 months). The speeds are always solid too.

I'd actually kind of like to go down one tier to turbo, but I really want to kept he 5Mbps up. And I don't think that's an option so I'll probably stick with extreme.

I've been stupid and haven't bridged my UBEE modem/router thing yet, but I can't find where I bookmarked the guide to do it.

I could probably stand to go down to 15 or 20, but the price isn't much different unless they take a steep cut off that too, which they probably would.

But now they've got me scheduled for an appointment I didn't make. I wonder if that's just in their system to indicate stopping service, because the woman I spoke to on the phone said no one would come to my house--just that I have to take the cable box to them.

was the 60 for just internet. I just ended my last promo deal and my rates jumped to 120+tax. I am trying to see what people are getting for digital cable + hd + dvr + internet (25+) and maybe phone.

Shopping retailers and such I'm finding that i can't get lower than 120s for cable+internet or 140 for all 3

I bought one of the Netgear CG3000D wifi modems off of Ebay for under $30, and I've been very satisfied with it. If you're trying to be cheap, it's a solid option.
