haha, you're in an eerily similar cycle to me at this exact time last year. I read Song of Ice and Fire 1-3, then Name of the Wind, then Feast for Crows, then Lies of Locke Lamora.12/21/2010 2:27:09 PM |

just pre-ordered a signed copy of Patrick Rothfuss' "The Wise Man's Fear." It was 2x as much as the non-signed hardcover (only like 34 instead of 17), but some of that money for the signed copy goes directly to a charity that Rothfuss has always been super supportive of and I liked that idea. Book is released March 1st.
Now, if only George RR Martin would release A Dance With Dragons this year it would be a pretty awesome year.

^^Thanks for the reminder on the Rothfuss book. I'll get that queued up.
Yeah, don't hold your breath on Martin. I'd hope that the work he is doing on the HBO series would inspire him to write again, but I think he'll use it as just another excuse for not finishing.

And yea I know in regards to Martin. Although he had this to say recently:
Quote : | "Martin was also asked about whether he feels any pressure to finish the books soon, so the HBO series does not catch up with him. “I feel definite pressure to get these things done. I don’t want the series catching up with me.”" |
Obviously that is several years down the line but that is at least part of the reason I hope the show is well (besides the fact that I am excited to watch the story play out on screen)1/14/2011 9:20:06 AM |

It's now official, David Liss is my favorite author. Just got finished reading:
Just another great book. I might like one of his Benjamin Weaver books better, but they're all in the same class. His writing style is great and I love the historical aspects of each novel. I keep recommending his books to people, but I don't think anyone has taken me up on it yet.
Finally starting this book:
It's my gf's favorite book...so I'm glad I'm finally getting around to it. 1/27/2011 8:42:53 AM |

I love it. It's got a lot of the quest/epic archetypes with a bit of fantasy, sci-fi, horror and such thrown in for good measure. Plus, there are all sorts of neat allusions to other King stories.
Also, jbrick33, The Pillars of the Earth moves slowly, but it's so well-crafted. It felt tedious in the first quarter of the book, but by its end I was in love with it.

Humorous and fascinating.
Parts are really funny, but I'm not quite sure how I feel about the story yet.1/27/2011 10:07:14 AM |

I'm not very far in but it's intriguing. Naturalism has a potential moral dilemma if there is no natural source of morality. I'm trying to read it as objectively as I can and looking for flaws in his argument. 2/2/2011 10:20:37 AM |
