I'll give another reminder to anyone who read The Name of The Wind by Patrick Rothfuss that you can pre-order The Wise Man's Fear many places online. Amazon has it relatively cheap at the moment for a new hardcover:

http://www.amazon.com/Wise-Mans-Fear-Kingkiller-Chronicles/dp/0756404738/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1297862469&sr=8-1

Also, it's crazy that his book is #7 on Amazon's overall book selling list right now. I mean the first book was absolutely great but I don't know that many people who have read it yet. I run across people all the time who I know would like it but haven't read it or maybe haven't heard about it still. Really awesome for Rothfuss though

After recently finishing

Which was quite entertaining, and

Which was excellent--and yet I get the impression it would have even been more rich for someone with a memory of the era referenced. And I'm not entirely sure how I feel about the ending.

I'll probably pick up a hard copy. Getting it auto-delivered to my Kindle on the 1st. Taking a week PTO for a Europe Trip=won't sleep on plane.

^^ nice. I really don't know when our copy will get here. It was pre-ordered through a site Rothfuss directed people to as a place to get signed copies if his book signing tour wasn't coming near you and I got the impression they were already signed at this point. So, I don't know whether to expect it on the 1st or within the first week of march. We'll find out...

Just finished "Energy at the Gates" by William Craig. Kinda funny they made the movie from like 5 pages of the book. Makes me damn happy I wasn't a soldier in either the German or Russian armies in 1942.

^^^Mary Roach just referenced that in her book that I'm reading, Packing for Mars. She said specifically that if you're going to read one astronaut's memoirs then to make sure it's Mullane's.

Just got these two the other day. Likely going to read Gladwell first.

I've read all of Gladwell's books ("what the dog saw" doesn't count).

Posted this in another topic, but thought this was needed here too.

A Dance With Dragons will be published on July 12.

The manuscript is huge — the publisher estimates the hardcover edition will run more than 900 pages, putting it about the same length as the longest book in the series, A Storm of Swords. Schedule your summer vacation accordingly.

Finished Pillars of the Earth...highly enjoyed it. Then went and read the "sequel" (not really, but lightly tied to the first one):

Just as good as the first one. Don't know if I'll ever read any more Follett books (the other are suppose to be much different), but glad I got to those two.

So I read "The Historian" a couple years ago and loved, so now I'm reading Kostova's other book:

Starting out pretty good so far. I loved The Historian, so hopefully this will be similar in quality.

Finished "The Perfect Mile" in 3 days on my cruise. I've never read a sports book in my life, but this was pretty intriguing. It might help if you don't already know who broke the 4 minute mile (and you can avoid looking at the photos).

now reading this and it's awesome:

fuuuuu, first I want to be a runner... now I want to be a scientist

I got Guns, Germs, and Steel for like $1 at Goodwill the other day. I'm looking forward to reading it.

Right now:

because my friend gave it to me and told me I should read it. This girl annoys the shit out of me.

^ that book has been sitting on my shelf for awhile. My reading time has gone way down hill recently being replaced by a few other things including starting the studying for my PE exam (which I won't take until the fall so my reading time might be very limited until then )

^^ my kindle says i'm 10% in...it's well written, but it hasn't hooked me so far

that said, MOST good books (the ones i end up unable to put down) don't hook me for quite a while...WOT and ASOIAF are the only two that i can think of off the top of my head...well, that and jurassic park, which remains one of my favorites
