Other members asked to be recognized so they could object, but the Speaker refused to recognize them and proceeded with the vote. The budget veto was overridden, 55-9. When they called the surprise vote, barely half the members of the body were present - almost all of them Republicans. They had planned this. The veto still stands in the Senate, where our members intend to defend it. It's remarkable to say this because in five years I've seen some really bad stuff, but I think this qualifies as a new low. To be openly dishonest and use that to pass the most high-profile legislation of the year is a new level of outright corruption that I hadn't seen before today."

I am frustrated by both sides at this point. The Dem's say the Repub's don't want to bargain but at the same time the Governor will not bargain either on Medicaid expansion. Additionally the Governor fucks other state employees more while giving the teachers another big raise in his ideal budget. The stalemate budget at least gives state employees a raise more in line with what teachers get. The Governor's budget would have given us (higher ed employees) a .5% raise over two years, while the Legislative budget would give us 5% over two years.

I have no problem with Medicaid expansion and I'm not a fan of Berger and crew but not exactly feeling the love from either side. Since my wife and I are both employed in higher ed we are both going without a raise and probably not going to look forward to one until 2021 at this rate.
