It would be political malpractice if they just hand Trump fiscal stimulus without writing into law some sort of automatic stabilization legislation.

Because you can bet your ass next time a Democrat President comes to a GOP-led congress in a crisis asking for stimulus the answer would be “go fuck yourself and take the American people with you.”

This actually is a good look for Biden:

This is basically what the majority of American's want, and he's forceful, genuine, and fairly clearly articulating this.

Payroll taxes literally fund SS and Medicare.

A tweet doesn't make you right. Treasury funds SS and medicare and budget deficits don't stop spending. You are fueling conservative talking point for austerity which leads to the part you are correct about. Cutting the payroll tax may lead to a discussion of "Now that we have a bigger deficit, we have to find something to cut".

What you "how you gonna pay for it?" types don't understand is that money is money. Congress may earmark funds or say that the reason for payroll tax is to fund SS and medicare but the truth is that the government creates money, spends it and then collects various taxes to take money off the books and limit inflation. The reason politicians give for a tax does not actually mean that money literally funds those systems.

We could permanently end the payroll tax and keep medicare and SS and either
A. just have a bigger deficit or
B. cut something else like military or
C. raise some other tax

Don't be so TDS that you'll hurt working people just to keep Trump from getting a "win"

You are the one who said I was unique, or Earl or that the payroll tax 'literally funds' medicare and SS. Knowing about MMT, and rejecting fiscal conservatism are two different things. You are using fear of SS cuts trying to scare people into rejecting their own relief.

You all know the administration is a POS but you need to take your heads out of your asses and realize Pelosi is an unempathetic POS who orchestrated this half-assed bill solely for self promotion and to crack a toast with republicans including DJT. Never forget this.

Here is my post treating Pelosi like horosho treats Trump:

Pelosi's plan to pass a weak bill to trick Republicans into supporting financial assistance is working great. She is an excellent negotiator, you should read her book. Very skilled maneuvering, she's clearly playing 4d chess 2 steps ahead.

Anyone who says Democrats are being beat from the left by the GOP deserves to be eaten by wolves.

This is true at the same time as saying Pelosi et al should not try to please moderates and the GOP and should pass the best plan for American workers and the less fortunate.

Wait, I thought centrist/moderate dems weren't real and that independents were a lost cause, and that the left shouldn't try to court their votes because those people were just shy Trumpers who were going to get carried away by a radical blue tsunami.

I'm so confused right now.

Maybe it's because I burned through all my 'snack' edibles that I thought would carry me through the rest of the week. Or maybe it's because I don't understand the complete 180 by the Sanderistas who are now pretending like they never made these claims, while still refusing to admit they were wrong about blaming Warren just a week ago

I was right about Warren since last summer. How were bernie bros wrong about warren a week ago?

Just because Pelosi is to the right of some republicans doesn't imply that she is to the right of them as a whole. Pelosi has no lane. Her types are privileged coastal folks who want to hear nice speeches that help them pretend and feel like they have virtue.

https://www.commondreams.org/news/2020/03/18/refusal-pelosi-consider-universal-cash-payments-response-coronavirus-pandemic

Trump and the GOP are making the worst case scenario come true. They are claiming the working class populist movement by cornering the democrats from the left. A fiscally left GOP opens the door for the scariest type of popular movement. I blame it on Pelosi's arrogance and refusal to listen to throw the people a bone. Hard to blame her when a lot of these fools line up to vote for her over and over while getting nothing out of it.

Quote :
""I truly don't know how to describe how maddening it is that Republicans and Trump officials are to the left of Congressional Dem leadership on this issue," tweeted activist Jordan Uhl. "

Quote :
""Nancy Pelosi is officially to the right of Tom Cotton on economic support for American families," HuffPost reporter Zach Carter tweeted on Sunday. "This is a total failure of Democratic Party leadership.""

Quote :
""This crazy obsession in Dem leadership with looking 'reasonable' by not 'doing too much' is about as impractical and insane as you can get in the face of a pandemic," Chakrabarti tweeted."

Quote :
""Trump, who bungled the early response to coronavirus, is starting to take actions resembling Bernie Sanders' proposals—monthly checks, ramping up production via the Defense Production Act, freezing foreclosures and evictions," said Bragman. "All while Dems push things like tax rebates. Baffling.""

They will never take responsibility. Just stay the course and double down on blaming Russia.

Jesus fucking Christ. Go get eaten by a bear.

You are the biggest dupe on the planet. They are literally voting against paid sick leave.

a) Tom Cotton says something
b) Earl creams his pants
c) Tom Cotton directly votes against what be said he’d do
d) .......

^ this. Massive stimulus is a guarantee because Trump wants to be re-elected. If he is, thanks to dupes and marks like Earl, he’ll go right back to corporate giveaways, gutting the ACA (which he’s STILL doing in court) with no replacement, environmental deregulation and wanting to strip Medicare/Social Security. It’s like they have the memory of a goldfish

I'm not sure if Earl even read the Pelosi link. That link calls out that she didn't want to give stimulus checks to the wealthy and rather do more prescribed measures for the less affluent and use tax return data to achieve that.

^ I get that is there opinion and I get that the UBI crowd would feel that way given their support for income to everyone. I'd say that is a policy based argument, but one with which I disagree with the policy.

But the earlier reference to Pelosi was that she was right of the Republicans, of which I don't view means testing being an example. In fact, I'd say money only to the disenfranchised and not the wealthy is more left than anything.

Pelosi is obviously not to the right of Republicans, generally

and you're right, means-tested vs universal programs is the key policy issue. you have pointed out the folly of many on the left vilifying the affluent. so now the left falls into the trap of saying "the rich don't deserve to participate in the publicly funded social benefits system" and trying to means-test the affluent OUT, when all that really does is to end up hurting the disenfranchised who inevitably fall through the cracks.

They all do it, But the left purports to care so much more about those less affluent and poor people, but end up defending means tested programs over universal ones. Often with the justification that rich people don't deserve those public benefits.

You're conflating different groups of people. Bernie and crew "vilify" billionaires (by thinking they should have less money?) and encourage universal benefits. Biden and crew don't really "vilify" billionaires and prefer means tested.
