nah i was just affliction to lvl and ive been doing mostly raids or leveling my alt. no point wasting shards if some zerg squad attacks you while you wait for ur group. pvp is pretty gay either way right now.

Few questions for rogues:

How do i train in bows, guns, and fist weapons and such?

I chose skinning and leatherworking for my trade. should i have herbalism for poisons?

What should i be going towards for my talent tree? I think im going to focus mostly on subtlety
then combat then assassination (premeditation seems like it would be great.)

Any tips for the talents that would benifit me the most in these low lvls? Ive been spreading my
points across everything. I have one in camo, master of deception, improved sin strike, and
lightning reflexes. I wouldent have gotten lightning reflexes but i chose it for my first point
before i knew what i was doing.

^^ i played a rogue just for a little bit and ppl seem to say combat is good for leveling. you can always change later.

to train different weapons you have to train at a weapon master, ask a guard where one is. some weaponmasters can only teach certain weapons though so you're gonna have to different cities (stormwind or ironforge).

Herbalism is not required for poisons. There is a poison vendor that has all the supplies you need to make your poisons. Skinning and leatherworking are fine but I suggest getting two gathering skills (picking up herbalism or mining) and just selling all the materials you collect. Leatherworking really isn't worth it right now. I have a Level 60 Rogue with 300 skinning and 296 elemtental leatherworking (not 300 because I have no reason or desire to raise it those 4 points). I am currently wearing a few things made by leatherworking but only one made by myself and that is a set of Stormshroud Shoulder. The other things are the Devilsaur set and a Wicked Leather Belt. The only thing I made was the shoudlers. The devilsaur set is a different tree (Tribal) and I don't have the pattern for the belt (drops in Stratholme with a rate of 3%). Anything you can make at any level will not be as good as a drop and there are enough other leatherworkers out there so that you can jsut collect money and buy the stuff they make.

Now for talents. The first 5 points should be spent on Imp. SS, and Imp. Evis. After that you have a choice. Combat first or Assassination. You should definitely NOT be going into the subtelty tree for any reason until around level 50.
If you decide to go combat first, put 3 points in Lightning Relfexes, then 5/5 Precision, Deflection, Riposte, Dual Wield, in that order (noting that Riposte only takes 1 point). If you feel like being a dagger rogue early on (which you may, but I hope you don't) then replace Imp. BS for Deflection and 5/5 Lightning Reflexes.
If you decide to go Assassination first, 5/5 Malice, 3/3 Ruthlessness, 1/1 Relentless Strikes, 5/5 Lethality, then place 3 points wherever you want (these are just filler to meet the 20 point requirement) and get Cold Blood.

I went with dual swords because good swords are much easier to come by. I was first all Assassination and then respec'd to all Combat and liked both builds equally. Around level 50 you should respec to my build upon getting the Lifeforce Dirk and proceed to grind the hell out of Azshara. You can easily make 50k/hour and lots of money out there with the proper knowledge (this is why a lot of the gold farmers hang out in Azshara). When you get around level 50 if you liked my advice and want to know what to do let me know.

There are better pvp builds but a problem with rogue pvp is you can own either caster, or everyone else, but not both. With my build I take out any caster of any level in about 3 seconds (open with ambush crit (chance ~75%) for 1400-1800 generating 2-4 combo points, cold blood evis for 600-1800 depending on combo points), but I get owned by heavy armor wearers in duels (and about 50/50 out in the field). With a heavy combat build you can do the sustained damage to take out these heavy armor wearers but then casters have an easier time kiting and nuking you.

If you want to do a dagger build early on it's possible and some people do and like it but it's a lot more work for benefits that are marginal at best.

Premeditation is a horrible talent. I've NEVER heard of anyone using this. This and vigor are a waste of a point. Preperation is the main reason for a subtelty build but that's ONLY after putting 21 points into Assassination (to get cold blood).

Talent builds are a heavily debated topic in the Rogue forums. Probably 75% of the threads there are about talents. I have a level 60 Rogue and have tried so many builds my next respec is 25g and I would only call myself knowledgable and nothing more, there are too many possibilties and depending on your play style you may not like anything I've said.

If you don't mind starting over (and being a horde) you can join us on Mal'Ganis. I'll even throw you a gold to respec and fix your build.

Im going to still work with subtelty some. Im a rogue and i feel like becoming more rogue like. if i wanted a warrior id be one. I dont care about building the uber toon as long as im having fun. i love to use stealth and sap/gouge/backstab the hell out of people. Thanks for the info Azaka and i do plan on staying with daggers even though like you said its harder to do. Also im doing skinning leather working so i can make things for alts in the future.

But this is mostly pointless because i just made a dwarf hunter and he is awesome so ill probly be asking the advice of the hunters some time soon.
