Should Trump stop mentioning the drug once he said it one time instead of constantly pushing it? Sure. Should he have kept its news under wraps until it was verified? Sure. He was trying to give a little bit of hope I guess.

well in the case of the lupus drug its probably because people were asking doctors for 1-3 months worth of the drug for their personal use in the case of quarantine.

these recommendations were coming down from doctors regarding birth control and other prescriptions as well.

doctors are not writing prescriptions for those or anti malarials just because trump name dropped them. as for the fish tank people? its like swallowing wart remover because trump mentions salicylic acid in a conversation about aspirin... but some darwin award motherfucker just remembers seeing that word on a label somewhere.

The problem with that is that all they talk about is what Trump did or didn't do in the past. All they do is question the past. Then when he reacts to their poking, they go off and say he had no business trying to convince people about the job he has done so far.

Its not that he doesn't have agency. Its that he is a certain way and will not let anyone "push him around". The media is running an experiment to find out if they can push him around and they get upset when he confirms that he is exactly how he always has been and is not going to let anyone get away with "hitting him". He feels like if he lets someone get away with one little thing, then it will be a sign of weakness and his power will be eroded away more and more. He holds a hard line and its not negotiable. Never has been. That line was drawn in the sand forever ago.

So if you know he always hits back but you hate when he hits back and think the entire exchange is "bad for the country" why would you keep hitting him?
If you really think him hitting back is bad for the country at a time "when people are dying", then why would you hit him at this time "when people are dying"? I'm not saying Trump's behavior is excusable. I'm just saying it is what it is.

The media's behavior is like someone who hits a wasp nest then complains about the agitated wasps trying to sting them but then goes back and does the same thing over and over and is still surprised they are getting stung 4 years later.

Did they really think they could just insinuate him of killing thousands of people repeatedly and not get a response? Did they really think they could cover the past and he would just look forward and not address the claims they are making about the past? Did they really think he would come out and say " yeah I messed up and tens of thousands of people are dead because of my failed response"?

If you're going to try to wind him up, don't act surprised when he is wound up.

I wouldn't really agree with "gotcha" questions being part of their responsibility even though its part of their job. Those questions don't really serve any purpose, and don't inform anyone. The entire point of those questions is to "test" the composure of the person by "pushing them".

It gets it on public record so the person can't act like they never thought to answer, and gives the person a chance to either attempt to correct the narrative (Trump takes a very extreme version of this approach) or admit faults and explain corrective actions. A leader shouldn't have any problems determining their approach and dealing with tough questions.


If admitting mistakes and culpability = self damning, then hell yes, drawing that is absolutely a role of the media
