'Warcraft' players to get 'Wrath' expansion features early

Hot on the heels of its new expansion's cinematic debut last week, Blizzard Entertainment on Monday announced that it will release a World of Warcraft patch "in coming weeks" that will include features from its second expansion Wrath of the Lich King. Blizzard said the patch is designed to "bridge current game content with that of the expansion."

Among the additions players should expect:

New talents and spells for existing classes
The implementation of barber shops for players
Two new arenas featuring more dynamic terrain than previous arenas
Guild calendar
The hunter pet skill revamp
A new profession: inscription

Blizzard said these are just some of the major highlights.

Blizzard did something similar in late 2006, before the release of the first expansion The Burning Crusade, when it allowed players to access new talents for their current characters. That expansion included two new races that were not available in the "prepatch." Here's hoping, however, that it finds it in itself to release the new Death Knight class in the forthcoming prepatch. This would at least give new Death Knight players some time to level and learn the ins and out of the class.

i doubt they'd give the new character in a patch, they'll want people to have to buy the expansion to get to play him. i mean i would think most would buy it to get the level cap bumped to 80, but still. don't see bliz releasing the deathknight early.

So yeah

I'm planning on farming a bunch of low and mid-level herbs so i can mark them up ridiculously high on the AH as soon as the patch drops and people start inscripting.

should be a HUGE money-maker.

Why is it that every six months or so one of my friends obsessed with this game convinces me to play it? They always claim "Oh man it's so awesome and it gets better all the time!" I try it and end up quitting within 1 hour. The game just doesn't feel "solid" to me. I mean the graphics are kinda cute and everything, but when you can walk through most npcs, and you swing an axe and it just kind of clips through the mobs, there isn't much there to suspend my disbelief.

you dont enjoy this kind of game just playing a random character for 1 hour.

While I admit WoW is more of a social game, there has to be a good game to socialize with first. I like a lot of MMOs (Lineage II, CoH, Planetside) for the social aspect, but they have to feel solid. I guess I'm just weird though, as WoW is more popular than God atm.

i mean i dont even play anymore, but what im saying is that there is no way you can judge the game based on 1 hour of play - whether it was with your friends already leveled toon, or with a lvl 1 character that doesnt do anything interesting.

with as much as people complain about the game and things they could do better/things theyve screwed up, I have to admit that they made a darn good, fun game.

You can get the feel of the game (controls, how animations/sounds work, physical interactions in game, etc) fine from one hour of play. Same thing happened when I first played CS Source, it FEELs completely different from 1.6. Not bad, but i don't like it as much. I've played both games quite a few times, feel the same way.

So I'm not saying the game sucks from one hour of play, I'm just saying I definately don't enjoy it.

k... i'm serious about this... my guild has pretty much stopped raiding

Who's server can I xfer to and join your guild just so i can get thru BT? I just want to clear BT ONCE before WotLK.

My guild was 4/5 and 3/9 and all the Sunwell guilds on my server aren't recruiting. I'm a prot warrior... decent gear... few drops from BT. I know all the fights, but my guild lacked the skill to get past Bloodboil.

i suppose. although comparing a game like CS where you can get the feel of play in 30 mins versus autoattack hacking ai characters in an mmo isnt really comparable.

So autohacking AI mobs later in game or in a group is somehow different animaton/interaction wise? It's not the game itself I'm unsatisfied with, it's pretty much like any other MMO; it's the engine the game runs on I don't like.

BTW, I do have a level 30 character from the first time I played it, so all this one hour stuff really doesn't matter anyway.

i played it for end game pvp so /shrug. but yes end game encounter interactions are/were a lot different than just auto-attacking AI. A few of my favorite/most challenging/most complicated boss encounters in any video game Ive ever played came from 2 dungeons in WoW.

wow WOTLK arms tree for warriors is disgustingly good. SO much synergy! And a lot of it is passive synergy...set it and go and multiple abilities working off of each other/stacking/proccing each other passively.

30% chance for every rage tick to proc overpower ready
50% chance for overpower to crit (as usual with talents)
100% for all melee crits (normal and special) to enrage you increasing dmg by 15%
When Enraged 30% chance for MS cooldown to be reset

You can see how all of those are passive yet they trigger something that could trigger something else that could trigger something else that gets progressively better. On top of that, another new talent can decrease overpower cooldown by 4 seconds with works out great with the first 2 things I listed.

^^yeah but what about the fury tree? dual wield 2 2handers with no speed slowdown? plus they added the MS debuf to pretty much every warrior attack it looks like.

im not that interested in the fury tree at the moment, but then again I never have been (Ive been arms pretty much since day 1) so I only gave it a once over and went back to analyzing the arms tree. I cant see the talent trees here at work but Titan's grip doesnt entice me over the arms tree.

I was having trouble deciding which talents I would have to NOT take in Arms on the way to Bladestorm because I would also want to at least go up to Enrage in the fury tree. (to get full arms you couldnt really get deathwish-which is weaksauce now-, or the imp zerker stance though).

Quote :

what talent is this? not that it would change my lean probably. I havent kept up with any of the news or notes on the xpac at all really so im pretty far out of the loop.

theres a 2 point talent in the fury tree called furious attacks that makes all normal melee attacks have 100% chance to reduce all healing effects by 25% for 8sec and it can stack up to 2 times. so it's basically like constant MS for free. at first glance i thought the changes made arms entirely worthless, but the stuff you posted about does sound like it would go well. it seems like both fury and arms are now viable for pvp type stuff, though i'm sure one will prove better than the other in the long run.

I think its great that fury could be more viable for people who want to do that in pvp, but I think its kind of silly for them to make their debuff be up pretty much 100% of the time when the true MS is in the arms tree and will fall off more than the fury one. But I suppose they felt like they had to do it.

Without the trees in front of me, I still think that Arms will be the way to go for pvp. Its all about big crushing hits imo, especially when we get kited so much. We want to lay a huge MS crit while dual enraged when they are near us rather than consistent dps I feel like.

And the arms tree is REALLY built for that now. (from memory):

poleaxe: +5% crit, AND +5% dmg
imp MS: +10% dmg on MS
blood frenzy: + dmg when a target is bleeding
wrecking crew: crits enrage us increasing dmg by 15% for like 8 seconds
Enrage(from fury but stacks): when WE get crit our dmg is increased by 15% for 8 seconds

potential for some huge stacks there, and not really on a rare occasion either.

The biggest thing im worried about with an arms build that would affect the awesome synergy Im seeing is that overpower is in battle stance and its getting buffed really nicely. But without tactical mastery will I be able to use it as often as it is available?

not that simple its 3 points that get pulled out of a talent that Id rather have, were stance dancing not so important for us. most likely those points get pulled out of enrage or the imp zerker stance thing in the fury tree :/

i mean luckily its first tier, but its in the prot tree which I would otherwise not have any points in.

Make sure DPS are using destro/haste pots and know how to manage and sync cooldowns. We were at that point when we started that and some people had 2-3 second delays because they were mousing all their cooldowns. When you blow 3 seconds of a 15 second burst consumable you sorta waste time.

Oh, if an enrage is incoming, our Druid taunts then cat sprints to the side, buying 5-10 seconds. I think it does it while he casts Meteor Slash, I'm not sure.

Also I think Locks can still drop infernals at 20% if you think its a kill without losing their demo sacrifice.

That being sad its a good fight to see who's good at generally understanding how to min/max their class. You don't have to do the math yourself, but it helps if you read something like EJ

/brut rant

Brutallus doesn't really require everyone doing the maximum amount of DPS. You can get away with a couple of people that suck, as long as the other dps are downing pots/drums. The healing part, for my guild, was much harder to learn than the dps part.

At least for the first kill you gotta do everything. Depends on how long you smashed your forehead against Black Temple. If you don't already use things like Ret Paladins, Spirit, or an abnormal number of Shaman, its a huge help

Yeah our healing took awhile. If it makes you feel better Felmyst dps requirement is pretty lenient. We can have 5 retards down on her and win.
