Warlocks are so bad.

I just killed one 13 levels above me (39 Priest vs. 52 Warlock) and still had at least 75% of my life bar still intact.

(Then I came back and drilled him again with my 52 Shaman )

I know for a fact that I would rape the fuck out of you with a warlock 3 levels under either your Shaman or priest.

Honestly, I have no idea why you even bother posting stuff like this.

depends on skills and spec, though obviously beating osmoene 13 levels above you should clue you into their skill. being affliction based makes it harder against a priest just cuz a lot of your talents are nullified by dispells or their skills in a 1v1 (inst corr, snare = useless, shadow dmg vs their resists, etc). the again for any 1v1 heavy affl is kinda hurting in my opinion.

even so though, there are as we've said plenty of idiots. as a lvl 48 affliction lock i beat a lvl 56 UD lock. everybody was romping that guy, he was pathetic.

Sorry, that was supposed to be under the guise of HockeyRoman. I forgot I was under her name. I appreciate the help. I will hang with my UD priest for a bit longer. I guess I am just used to dealing out the pain with my hunter and I have to get used to being of a mage class.

Demonology + Dest spec ftw as the talents stand right.

Can't really beat instasummons + mass damage.

Might even be better if blizzard follows through on its redesign of the demonolgy talent tree

Although Demonology + affliction with the new honor points in pvp group battles.

was 5/17/rest for a bit, but it was boring and since i have been doing raids and farming i just went affliction 32/8/11 (moreso for farming and soloing and eventually group pvp).

i still say the 2 listed above and the 7/31/13 are the strongest builds, but its nice that each is good in its own way.

i mean gd though, when u go from 17 demon to anything lower its just painful. 10 seconds never seemed that long, but i guess if ur just using an imp or succy as mainly a mana batery its no biggy.

^ if ur a veteran MMO player you should know how most classes will be just by the names. not much different here cept maybe the druids or offensive priests. otherwise it depends what ur into. for PVE anything pretty much works, but a priest/mage/warrior can never go wrong and are always needed in raid groups (if ur into never getting groups a rogue/hunter are good choices). most interesting classes in my opinion are warlock and druid just for variety (but know ur shit when choosing either if you wanna PVP).

back to warlock talk
----------------------

yeah nightfall/ruin is good for dmg (especially burst dmg), but i just feel like you should have a focus and work around that, while still throwing curves so ur not predictable. i feel like using that build you miss out on something, though im not quite sure what it is.

i guess for 1 you have even less escape options. every build i listed has something. CoEx, soul link, or at minimum an insta pet for a sheild. plus im not sure which pet you'd focus around with that build. shrug, guess i dont know.

i kinda gave up on the idea of nuking so i went affliction for as many buffed instants as i could get (shadow trance, shadowburn, curse, corruption, coil: all buffed from shadow mastery). that and i kept running out of damn mana when i was in hillsbrad and it was annoying. DP is marginal in a lot of manners, but it helps insanely to speed up our LONG recoup process after a rez.

im sure soul link + shadowburn is the best for generic pvp currently, but it requires a lot more micro, which im not overly great at when in an adrenaline rush (which is why i suck at RTS games). guess ill get to test these theories eventually.

Mother of God will this patch download!!!

As for previous experience, this is my first MMO game I've played. Didn't wanna breakdown and do it, but I finally said to hell with it. I have not had a good RPG game since NWN and Morrowind, and since everybody seemed to think this was the best shit ever, I figured I'd give it a shot. Anyhow, I know most of the classes and that shit, but what server/realm do ya'll play on and would you suggest any guilds that are looking for people?? Lemme know, thanks!

Lord Banehollow is weak, and as far as i know there's no point to him being there [yet]. (for Alliance, at least)

i took him down when i was just 55 with 2 other players, lvl 55 and 56. was pretty tough but we took him on a 2nd try.

Up until the mid 30s I wore the Robes of Arugal on my Orc Shaman.

Armor is pretty shitty in the game and the stat boosts were far more useful.

I just pwned a 51 hunter and 54 druid, back to back with my 52 lock.

Feared hunters pet, seduced him, then landed soulfire and shadow burn for 900 dmg, dot, dot and he started to run.

Funny thing. CoA has a chance to slow you down.

Shadowburn again, crit 560 hunter dies.

Then the druid sees me, im at 1/2 health 1/2 mana. Starts doing his instants on me.

Again, seccubus seduce, shadow bolt. Crit, 700 damage. Seccubus begins to attack him, crit again, 110 dmg. Kid panics and starts running. 2 curses and a shadowburn. Crit again, 750 damage.

Druid drops dead and his corpse slides across the map.

Moments like this: <3 warlock.

IM not on a pvp server, but a fair amount of pvp still goes on on the normal ones.

I still dont see how people say paladins are so invincible. Im a 54 mage, and there isnt a class i havent been able to take down.

cuz you have the burst needed to take them down. their high AC + decent hp + sheild + heals make them last forever vs melee or ppl who cant do reallly high bursts. they dont do any dmg themselves though so its not a big deal.

^ and yeah i've always loved dots and had noticed that CoA thing too while fighting mobs. is it a bug or is it listed somewhere? nothing felt better than hitting a lvl 60 mage for half his life when i was lvl 55 with a soulfire. he still got me cuz i was dumb, but was hilarious anyway.

Warlocks are the only class ive had any difficulty with since theres no good way for a mage to deal with their pet without taking too much attention off the warlock. Curses arent a big deal since we can remove them, but warlocks have plenty burst dmg of their own.

Two ways to do it, either ignore their pet, or polymorph the warlock and kill their pet. Generally when soloing, they'll have the imp out so you can more or less ignore it and kill the lock. Warlocks are more or less incapable of responding well to being jumped, so if they aren't ready for a fight, they are fucked. Just ICS go to town on them with all your instacasts and they'll die. A duel is a different story. Any smart lock will be using succubus or fellhunter in a duel. What I like to do here is to use ICS on the pet right off the bat (4 sec. silence), polymorph the lock, then go to town on the pet. Reapply poly if you have to until the pet is dead. Once poly breaks, the first thing the lock will try to do is fear you. Being an ice mage, I wait for him to cast his DOTs then just ice block which breaks fear and clears DOTs. If you're a fire mage, you better be undead and use WOTF as quickly as possible. At this point, it's just a matter of who has the most mana. Just unleash every instacast you have, start running around casting IAE, ICS him again when the timer is done, and just hope it dies before you run out of mana or he can recast his pet. Curse of tongues can fuck you up, so make sure you have a macro to target yourself and cast remove curse. All in all, warlocks are probably the 3rd toughest duel (behind shamans and shadow priests), but it's also very winnable and actually comes down to skill (unlike those other two, where the priest/shaman would have to fuck up horribly to lose).

I completely forgot about sheeping the warlock and dealing with the pet. Its been awhile since i fought a warlock.

Ive beaten shadow priests with ease. ICS, if cast while the target is casting, prevents them from using any magic from that school for 10 seconds, as well as anything at all for 4 sec. In 10 seconds, i can deal over 2000dmg and have plenty of mana left to get near and AE/FB/CoC the shit out of them.

In the beginning it's not that hard at all, and mining's pretty easy all the way through as long as you can find veins to mine. Blacksmithing on the other hand will take a lot of time and money to improve as things go along. Once you get to choose whether you do weaponsmithing or armorsmithing the 'grind' in order to level those up gets even more boring. I've spent days doing nothing but trying to get my blacksmithing up. I'm at 232 right now with Weaponsmithing and it's almost not worth it. Drops are better than what you can make and you'll never make any money doing smithing unless you can sell some of the stuff at the auction house. Pretty much the only thing I use smithing for right now is helping out the n00blets in my guild with stuff as they progress through the levels, and maybe hooking them up with a set of 'My First Plate Armor' till they can find some better drops.

I disagree....i mean, of course there are going to be drops that are better than what you can smith, but they're pretty rare, and very expensive. There are alot of very good middle to upper end weapon recipies that will fetch decent prices (Blight, phantom blade, truesilver champion, arcanite champion, etc..)

You must have played against some shitty priests.

My tactic against you would go something like: SW, Fear, Mana burn, Mana burn, Silence, Fear, Mind Blast, etc....

Mages are beasts. My 60 Shaman gets his ass handed to him against a good 60 mage in duels.

Improved Counterspell or level 1 Fireblast to kill grounding totem, then poly.

Bandage up if I hurt him, wait for counterspell to cooldown, then open up with a Fireball (he had some long-winded argument against not getting Pyroblast for PvP)

Imp. Counterspell me again (to stop an NSed heal), fireblast, blast wave, frost nova, fireball again. Blink and do something random.

Apparently SPriests kick his ass, and I've never found a good one to duel.

Pyroblast isnt that useful without Presence of Mind. With PoM, its basically another bigass Fireblast. I suppose you could sheep then open with a pyroblast, but i'd rather use it as surprise burst damage.

I think im gonna respec as a frost/arcane mage at some point. Ive read and seen some good strategies for it

duel strategy and pvp raid strategy are quite different.

In group pvp, mages are nothing more than AoE machines. AE till you get a clearcast, then PoM+Flamestrike..then go back to AE

you can imagine what its like being a warlock in large scale pvp then. if you do ur best burst dmg you run out of shards relatively quickly or have to wait on timers. if you dot, the ppl are dead long before they work or run away and dispell/heal. it is depressing.

While I agree that there are some upper weapon recipies that can fetch a good price, the cost of the supplies (whether it be time or gold) just doesn't make it worth it.

For example:
Arcanite Reaper
20x arcanite bars
6x enchanted leather
2x dense grinding stones

that in itself doesn't seem like much stuff, however each arcanite bar has to be made by an alchemist and their cooldown time per bar is 48 hours. Bars sell for 35g typically at the auction house. Overall, it's just not worth it for the time and effort put into the upper level blacksmithing recipies compared to going out and getting a nice drop. Not to say that if I had the materials in the bank I wouldn't make it, I just wouldn't try to farm for the stuff in order to make it.
