I didn't say we would really want them. I just said it would happen before a WVU, Lousiville type. Basketball & academics are important in the ACC (& especially to the powers that matter) and if the ACC has to expand, it will look at Vandy, Syracuse, & Rutgers first, and perhaps Pitt/UConn. 6/11/2010 6:15:46 PM |

These are the same people that brought you Boston College and did anyone really want them?
You can't tell me that Duke, Wake, BC, GT, UNC, & UVA would rather be associated with a WVU or Louisville than Vandy.
Vandy fits in academically and makes geographic sense. Of course, I would think Syracuse would be the first choice for expansion, but Vandy would be among the first schools we look at, especially if the Big 10 adds Rutgers and/or Syracuse. 6/11/2010 9:06:55 PM |

Vandy is a good fit in the ACC. Basketball first school with outstanding academics. Let FSU and Miami join the SEC. ACC can then go after a few Big East schools and become a 14 team conference. I actually hope Texas and Oklahoma join the SEC because the Pac-10 will always be a boring ass conference. 6/12/2010 11:08:31 PM |

This whole expansion thing is all about the money...do you really think the payout per school will go up by adding Vanderbilt?
Quote : | "Let FSU and Miami join the SEC." |
Everything I read suggests the SEC isn't seriously considering this b/c adding Miami and FSU wouldn't do much to expand their tv market.
Oh...and it just occurred to me that the Big 10 now has 12 teams and the Big 12 has 10...the next generation of college sports fans are going to be terribly confused

since ^ apparently too lazy to just post the article
Quote : | "The departure of Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State to the Pac-10 is imminent, four sources within the Big 12 said Monday.
One source said commissioner Dan Beebe's last-minute plan to save the conference has "zero" chance to succeed. Another source said it is "very unlikely" to succeed.
Texas' interests in being aligned with the research opportunities and academic missions of Pac-10 schools is driving the decision, along with money.
Beebe's last-ditch plan included an emotional plea about preserving rivalries and maintaining the best welfare of the student-athlete, one source said.
Texas A&M is now most likely to join the SEC, a source within the Big 12 said. This move, in the wake of Colorado and Nebraska's departure, would further diminish the chance of Beebe's plan succeeding, one source said.
Texas' decision is expected to come no later than Tuesday. One source familiar with Texas' plans suggested a hearing on Wednesday at the Texas House of Representatives is "a nonfactor." " |

lol, SI.com article lists NC STATE in potential SEC pickups
but they basically tell more reasons why it is unlikely than why they included them
http://ncaafootball.fanhouse.com/2010/06/14/if-texas-aandm-is-secs-lucky-13-who-is-14/?ncid=txtlnkusspor00000002
Quote : | "6. N.C. State
The University of North Carolina isn't coming to the SEC.
Stop e-mailing me about this.
The only reason I included N.C. State on this list was so people stopped e-mailing me about the North Carolina move. Here's why UNC isn't coming: The four North Carolina schools -- UNC, Duke, Wake Forest and N.C. State -- are wedded together via basketball.
Duke and North Carolina would never move. In fact, those schools actually voted against the ACC expanding when Miami, Boston College and Virginia Tech were added to the conference. So there's no way they join a weaker academic conference. UNC is tied to those schools culturally. While you're right that basketball doesn't drive the college athletics revenue, it is a cultural touchstone in the state.
Plus, under Butch Davis the Tar Heels appear on the verge of turning the football corner.
UNC has no reason to move.
So why is N.C. State listed?
Because of the similarities State shares with Texas A&M. Only State is in worse shape because the other three ACC schools in the state are all better known and more successful than State.
Could State succeed in the SEC?
Probably not.
But would State have a better chance of success in the SEC just because it would finally have an object of differentiation from the other three ACC schools?
Definitely.
That makes State an intriguing idea, but, likely to remain that, just an idea.
If the SEC goes to 14, you can pretty much guarantee, barring an Oklahoma Sooner surprise, that it's one of these six schools." |

I mean I won't contest the "more successful" since the article is mainly about football and they did win the acc like 4 years ago or something. But do people outside of NC know anything about Wake Forest? I don't have any delusions they know all that much about NC State except Jimmy V but what do they know about Wake Forest? 6/14/2010 11:47:11 PM |

To name two, Wake's Law and Medicine programs are both well known.
For anecdotal evidence, when I tell my extended family in NJ and Florida I went to/work at NC State, about 90% think I'm talking about UNC.
When I told them my girlfriend goes to Wake, they all went "oh wow, that's a good school".
What it boils down to is that people generally know the good schools that produce lawyers and doctors, but couldn't care less where the guy who designed the bridge they drive over twice a day went to school.

So now that it appears the big 12 is down to 10 teams and the big 10 is up to 12 can they just go ahead and switch names? Seriously though now that it looks like the big 12 will only lose Colorado and Nebraska I guess the next question is where do they go looking to fill out these 2 spots to keep a championship game. The first few that pop into my head are TCU, Utah, Air Force, Colo State, and maybe they could find a way to steal Arkansas from the SEC? 6/15/2010 8:55:30 AM |

TCU maybe. Utah I can't see right now - not yet. I can't see a military school joining a major conference. Air Force Col State maybe to keep the Colorado market. Though I don't know what kind of following CSU has for a fanbase. Arkansas we've heard rumored to join - I could see that. What about New Mexico? Or Houston? 6/15/2010 9:38:14 AM |

From what I've read, Texas and Oklahoma don't want a championship game. They don't care if it stays gone. They think it has too much potential to derail a possible national-championship team.
The Pac-10, however, might go after Utah to get to 12 teams.
All of this info is pretty much from various Chip Brown reports. He's the guy from orangebloods.com who reported everything from the outset. He's been on the money on everything even when ESPN was "reporting" the exact opposite was going to happen.

^^^^ Doesn't mean they will take anyone.
Adding 2 more teams that don't bring much to the table just splits the pie up even more, even with the added revenue from a championship game. Could see them going forward with just the 10 and having a very strong football and basketball conference now(especially basketball). Could prob. add 2 more down the road if they wanted.
Talk about a 180 for the Pac-10. Can just see them all sitting around now like, "Fuck, do we still have to take Colorado?" With USC about to take a dump in athletics they really come out of this as huge losers.
