We use a MS SQL Express database with an ASP.net front end with the code in vb.net. We’re looking to make some changes that would take me perhaps a month or two but we’re looking to get this done quicker than that. The website and database themselves are not complicated and would take someone with some experience at it very little time (I think). It's basically web forms used to insert our data into the database and then query pages to look at the relevant data.
I’d like to use this as a chance to get to take a look at what a more experience programmer could/would do. Someone I could ask some questions to make sure we’re not doing things ass backwards. We'd prefer someone local. I don’t know how it could be avoided but we would require that we have access to all of the source code.

ERP is a relatively new division at UNC Chapel Hill. We have actually announced a formal agreement with NC State to develop an ERP solution together. It will be a $100,000,000+ project.

None of the positions available pay under 70k, and I think the median pay is probably 90k with some going over 100k. the positions are programming and Peoplesoft oriented. All you need to go is travel to hr.unc.edu, and do a search on staff positions in Enterprise Resource Planning department. Send me an IM if you have questions. I work within ITS, which ERP is pretty much a part of.

Most of these positions require a 4 year degree and 1 year experience in a related area or you can substitute experience for education (no degree really required).

The 'bands' are the total band. The hiring range is listed within the position, and I think the lowest possible is 70k.

The benefits are typical State employee benefits, although it's definitely information you should directly ask them for.

The work atmosphere depends on which department of NCSU that you work for. I did some time in a tech job at NCSU and it was just me, sometimes another student, and our manager that ran all the computers, website, and storage servers for the department. He was very easy going and the department folks were all very nice, so that was a good atmosphere. I have heard negative and positive things about working for ITD, but I have no personal experience there.

So, yeah...

In all seriousness, my company of 3+ years is growing, and quite quickly that I cannot find qualified people. I can find bodies, but I need a few people with some tech skills for implementation work among other things. Figured it may be good for recent graduates or people to get training while looking for other jobs.

Generally, I need people with technical skills of the following nature(s):

Networking
Security
Troubleshooting
Multiple OSes
Various open source software
Implementation experience

Additionally, the following intangibles are quite necessary:

- Teachable (ongoing training will most certainly be provided on different platforms and products from vendors).
- Ability to listen to client (and not tell them that they are full of shit from the get go)
- Presentation skills
- Ability to work with assholes (not in our company, but from other companies) as a consultant - look just trying to set expectations for you.
- Ability to travel (though it doesn't really matter where you currently live).

I really am not screwing around here (but, no, I'm not buying an ad), BobbyDigital among others here know me and parts of my background and will tell you it's a legitimate opportunity, but bottom line is that several VARs are now outsourcing their security and implementation work to my company and I just do not scale (nor do I have expert knowledge in all of the technologies they would require - that's where you come in, right?)

I need consultants/contractors that can implement "stuff" (and I have to use "stuff", because different VARs have different products/architectures/OSes, etc.).

Oh, one other thing... I don't care if you've got certifications (or not), if you graduated (or not), or any other "thing" (or not). It merely matters that you're COMPETENT or are willing to be trained and not a complete jerk.

Of course, I recognize that most recent grads won't have all of the skills, which is why I put them as a general need. But, I also recognize that there are some people that read the board that may have a few years of experience under their belts as well.

It's not remotely sketchy, but whatever. I can't rightly answer fred's question, as it will certainly depend on the person(s), but certainly fairly compensated, if not more so. To say "Oh, we're paying $X/hr. or $X/yr." would be just silly.

All I can do is present the opportunity to work and trust there are some that are interested. It's really fine if no one is, I have calls out to recruiters as well, to find me people, but they are running into the same issue I am.

I'll either find people, or companies will have to wait, no big deal either way to me. I do, however, appreciate your feedback.
