Bill O'Reilly pwns the shit out of Marvin Kalb, noted left-winger and profesor emeritus at Harvard:

^^ Did you link to the wrong clip? I don't see much of anything on any side. I see O'Reilly making up a lot of excuses for everything he is asked. I think you must have just read the transcript surrounding the video without actually watching it.

And for the far-left doofuses here, Professor Kalb sent O'Reilly a note saying that O'Reilly had won the debate. So, I invite you to piss off at this time. 11/13/2008 10:57:01 AM |

^ Look, I'm not even a huge O'Reilly fan--he's so arrogant sometimes that I can't even stand him. I mostly watch Special Report with Brit Hume.
But Kalb invited O'Reilly to appear on PBS, and as a former student of Kalb's, O'reilly obliged. Kalb got his clocked cleaned, which he admitted. It's really rather straightforward. 11/13/2008 4:04:15 PM |

I think you need to view the clip before you claim any clock cleanage. The only real contentious point was there at the end about the President not fighting, and that was nothing more than smug ole Bill thinking he won a point when he really didn't. Kalb pretty much had him destroyed up until that point. 11/13/2008 4:07:29 PM |

^ Are you stupid? You don't even realize who Kalb is, do you?
Quote : | "Kalb spent 30 years as an award-winning reporter for CBS and NBC News. Kalb was the last newsman recruited by Murrow to join CBS News, becoming part of the later generation of the 'Murrow's Boys.' His work at CBS landed him on the Nixon administration's 'enemies list' (master list of Nixon political opponents). At NBC, he served as chief Diplomatic Correspondent and host of Meet the Press. During many years of Kalb's tenures at CBS and NBC, his brother Bernard worked alongside him.
Kalb has authored or coauthored nine nonfiction books (Eastern Exposure, Dragon in the Kremlin, The Volga, Roots of Involvement, Kissinger, Campaign '88, The Nixon Memo, and One Scandalous Story) and two best-selling novels (In the National Interest and The Last Ambassador). His most recent book is The Media and the War on Terrorism." |

I've never heard of Kalb, but I can't see how you think O'Reilly won. Neither one of them did anything spectacular there.
O'Reilly was doing his usual shtick of saying things confidently that aren't true or are only half true, and Kalb didn't call him on it. I guess if you didn't realize O'Reilly was lying though, you'd think he "won" the debate.
ANd O'Reilly in that clip didn't get any applause either. He got some laughs and Kalb got some laughs.
I guess that's one of the reasons people like Fox News commentary though, they say things loud and confidently, and the other just kind of stares blankly at the absurdity, but rarely tries to correct. This is one of those things where you have to fight fire with fire, I think.

^ haha, O'Reilly has been known to blatantly lie, on several occasions. Do you dispute this?
I'm not saying he's lying about the Kalb letter, because that's not his style. It's easily possible though he's embellishing what it says, or equivocating what it says (although i'm not saying this is what he's doing either). I just haven't seen the letter, and I frankly wouldn't just take your word that it exists.

Yes hooksaw, the media and the TWW by-and-large is biased to the left. In general, I know I'm a center-left thinking guy too. In fact, I've tried to make it a habit to research typical conservative positions on all political topics to account for said bias. And yes, the media on average does NOT self-correct itself in the same way. Hence the popularity of Fox News, which capitalizes on frustrated right and center-right audiences as well as frustrated moderates and even liberals whom are interested in seeing "the other side of the coin." So yes, liberal bias in news is, to one extent or another, an issue that should be dealt with...
But for fuck sake can you PLEASE make your damn case using something other than an unsourced "admission of defeat" by the opposing side? While you're at it could you also please explain to why we "far-left doofuses" should be belittled for not accepting your unsubstantiated claim to victory? B/c that'd go a long way towards explaining why you're shocked that the rest of us called "bullshit" on it.11/17/2008 12:41:01 PM |

Treasury Sued By FOX Business Network Over Rescue Plan Info
Quote : | "WASHINGTON -(Dow Jones)- FOX Business Network said Thursday it has filed a lawsuit against the U.S. Treasury Department for being slow to provide information on the $700 billion financial rescue plan.
The television network, a unit of News Corp. (NWSA), said in a release that Treasury has not responded to two Freedom of Information Act requests, one on Nov. 25 and one on Dec. 1, regarding the use of funds for Citigroup Inc. (C), American International Group Inc. (AIG) and Bank of New York Mellon. The request sought data on the specific restrictions placed on the firms and the collateral extended as part of their acceptance of federal funds, among other things.
A lawyer for the network said that 'it has become apparent that the Treasury will not cooperate without mounting legal pressure.'
The complaint was filed in federal court in New York.
A Treasury spokeswoman was not immediately available for comment.
Federal policymakers have come under increasing pressure to provide more information about their efforts to stabilize the financial system and deal with the stumbling economy. A Government Accountability Office report released earlier this month criticized Treasury for not addressing a number of issues surrounding the implementation of the $700 billion Troubled Asset Relief Program." |

^^ I almost missed this--you been reading the HuffPo again? And would you please post a link to all this valuable Hannity-related information?
Many of you miss the point about Hannity/O'Reilly/Limbaugh et al--and I'm not a big fan of any of them as individuals. I actually listen to The Diane Rehm Show and watch Special Report with Brit Hume Bret Baier much more often--but this doesn't fit with the caricature of me that some here have created.
In any event, what some of you continually fail to understand is that for many it's not about the individual broadcasters or their foibles. It's about issues--often legitimate issues--that are raised through these outlets that are overlooked for whatever reason by the mainstream media.
If Hannity has associated (guilt by association?) someone that is objectionable, he should just say he was some guy around the neighborhood. It worked for Obama. 1/10/2009 6:51:08 PM |
