That’s fine but good luck winning a Dem primary in 2020 running on “aCtUaLly We HaVe To DeFeAt ObAmA fIrSt.” There are political realities that need to be faced if a movement ever can even get off the ground. Otherwise have fun wasting a vote on Jill Stein and lurching the country further right.
And if Obama said that (and that’s a big if considering how pragmatic he is) it’s plain stupid and wrong. If Bernie wins the primary it is absolutely IMPERATIVE that anyone who cares about the direction of this country full their full support behind him to defeat Trump.

because we have pundits on tv 24/7 telling people who is electable and who is not and who is polling where so people make decisions based on what other people think or tell them instead of based on who they actually like
unfortunately it will probably take something major like instant runoff voting or majorly breaking up media companies for any of this to change12/2/2019 8:20:02 AM |

My guess is one of two things - he's beyond the pale regarding remembering things incorrectly, or, like James Clapper, he's actually met with Kim Jong Un during classified/previous instances that haven't been published/reported on yet. If the latter is the case, obviously calls into question whether anything's been declassified about which he can speak. If the former, just more to the point that dtownral and others have been making regarding qualifications. 12/3/2019 1:32:24 AM |

Not that there is anything wrong with exposing oneself to diverse perspectives but this is another example of poor reasoning causing you to jump to false extreme conclusions. I saw the actual clip on foxnews, googled the quote (like you did), and noticed that it was only on rightwing sites and acknowledged such by sarcastically stating "good thing it won't make it past foxnews/breitbart"
You should be more concerned with the significance of a major lie (by the guy you think is the front runner) only being reported so called nutjob media sources. How telling is it that Biden's lie essentially doesn't exist in MSM?
How significant is it that ordinary people like you would have never known this happened without hearing it from someone who happens to watch a so-called nutjob network?
Its ironic considering CNN covers just about every Biden campaign event and extra ironic in the contextual backdrop of the whole Ukraine thing. According to their claims alone, investigating a Biden lie would affect the outcome of the election so they are, by their own reasoning, trying to make sure Biden is elected by refusing to do their jobs and report what he actually said.12/3/2019 1:24:11 PM |

I'm not a media outlet and all of them covered the Melania quote. Even if they perceived it as a senile mistake, they could report it as such but they have completely blacked it out as if it never happened.
Its whataboutism which was less because it was done to prop up his wife's image instead of Biden's quote which was done strategically to prop up his political experience in the context of electability.
Its misplaced whataboutism because this is the primary thread which shouldn't be about Trump.
The irony is that your whataboutism is even displayed in the google search results because when you google "Joe Biden Kim Jong Un" the only MSM results you get are criticizing Trump for talking trash about Joe Biden with Kim Jong Un. 12/3/2019 2:01:26 PM |

I still would have preferred Harris over any of the four Bs or Klobuchar.
My current text reply rankings in 4 tiers:
Bernie: "OMW" (100% has my vote) Yang: "I mean, I'm down" (would have my vote if he wins)
Warren: "Who else is going" (firm vote unless she pivots even further right) Tulsi: "DTF?" (As long as shes "down to fight" for progressive issues, I'd be in)
Booker: "I'll meet up with you over there" (maybe ill decide to vote for him later if he moves left but I'll most likely pass out on my couch early)
Buttigeig: "HET" (tulsi will take care of him) Amy: "who dis" (should i vote socialist or green?) Biden: "A vote for Biden is a vote for Trump" (Why not start this? it makes more sense than similar quotes because they are actually similar) 12/4/2019 3:14:30 AM |

Under no circumstances would I ever vote for Trump. I'm the only (or one of the only) people here with a floor on what I would vote for.
Hypothetically speaking, I think most people here would vote for Trump if he was the democrat or furthest left candidate on the ballot. I wonder what the split would be like if George Wallace was the 2020 democratic nominee.
I also doubt Warren wouldn't move further right after securing the nomination so don't count on it. 12/4/2019 12:14:36 PM |

Its not make believe because its been happening for a while now. I just happen to be capable of seeing the big picture of how this mentality has led to Trump and how it could lead to much worse in the future if left unchecked. It requires evaluating voting principles instead of just looking at individual politicians who are simply 4 year place holders. Politicians come and go but principles remain. Trump's shock value just makes it hard for people to take a step back and think about what they are doing. Thats the whole point of it. You never stopped to consider the the republicans are doing the same thing you're doing. They don't like Trump either. In their minds, the are just mitigating the damage caused by liberal politicians by voting Trump.
If your philosophy is vote for the lesser evil, you will be voting for progressively more evil candidates each cycle until the lesser evil candidate is far more evil than the previous evil candidates ever could have been. Its a positive feedback loop.
Can't remember if it was this forum or not but one time I explained it all in terms of game theory. I'll go back and look for it later this afternoon.

Quote : | " Because of what happens next. If liberals continue to signal to the DNC that they don't care how far right it moves, as long as it is somehwere to the left of the GOP, they will continue to move right. Its basic game theory according to the Hotelling model of spatial competition.
If you imagine the beach as the political spectrum, we are on the right side of the beach. The republicans pull their cart right and liberal voters allow the democrats to push their cart right by saying (I'll always go to the cart that is the furthest left, no matter how far away it is. Saying you will vote for any democrat is literally telling them to nominate the rightmost candidate
After 4 years of your right leaning democrat in office, that is now the new party normal. The fact that being Donald Trump (and not policy) is the only thing holding the party back will allow the republicans to move even further right with a more polished candidate in 2024. Of course, with the loss of the number one appeal (not being donald trump) now being lost by the democratic party, they will be forced to move EVEN FURTHER right to obtain the same amount of conservative votes.
And of course, most of the people on the left side of the beach give up and stop eating ice cream all together or have forgotten what eating ice cream is like.
I didn't even mention how the republicans will call the right leaning democrat a "socialist" and use it as an excuse to move even further right by blaming all of the results of failed economic structure on the president..and thus "what happens when you elect a democrat". This already happened with Obama and Trump. I'm really upset that its going to have to happen all over again for you guys to begin to see the pattern.
If more people did what I do, and drew a line in the sand, saying they would not vote for any candidate (right of this point), you would have a setup more like this where the republicans would have to worry about moving too far to the right.
[Edited on October 30, 2019 at 1:57 PM. Reason : and it will happen. they are good at research]
[Edited on October 30, 2019 at 2:00 PM. Reason : the difference is that hotelling has everyone eating icecream. in politics people just wont vote ]" |
I'm part of a growing movement of people who have put our foot down, drawn a line in the sand, and said we will not go to the right of this point. We are part of the calculation now and if we get large enough to affect the outcome, we will pull the democratic party back to our rightmost acceptable point. If they do not move, their calculation is that we are not large enough to affect the outcome, or that we are bluffing so you cannot blame us for their miscalculation about the demands of the electorate. Politicians should serve voters and if your idea is that voters should get in line with what politicians demand, then you are not a friend of democracy. Thats authoritarianism.
