Looking like mark Cuban is going to run in 2028 as the anti trump

Not enthusiastic about this but he can win against Kamala or buttigieg in a primary

Minnesota is a real testament to the direction the Democrats can take a state.

They really have only have a few votes majority in their Senate and House. The legislation they’ve passed is progressive/liberal, but is hardly groundbreaking:
-legal recreational weed
-free school lunch
-created laws to protect abortion and against LGBTQ discrimination
-12 weeks guaranteed Family Medical Leave

And just compare that to North Carolina where we
-can’t pass a budget. Still waiting to expand Medicaid after 13 years.
- are sitting on $billions in state reserves but can’t “afford” enough school bus drivers.
-the main legislation this session has abortion restrictions and bullying trans people. So accomplished.
-have spent the past two months on trying to pass the Senate Pro Temp’s personal casino legislation, building one in his county.

The fuck are we doing?

Possibly not the best thread for this, but it's a disappointing development to come out of a Democratic administration's Environmental Protection Agency.

https://www.propublica.org/article/epa-approved-chevron-fuel-ingredient-cancer-risk-plastics-biofuel

Quote :
"The Environmental Protection Agency approved a component of boat fuel made from discarded plastic that the agency’s own risk formula determined was so hazardous, everyone exposed to the substance continually over a lifetime would be expected to develop cancer. Current and former EPA scientists said that threat level is unheard of. It is a million times higher than what the agency usually considers acceptable for new chemicals and six times worse than the risk of lung cancer from a lifetime of smoking...

EPA scientists included figures that made it possible for ProPublica to calculate the lifetime cancer risk from breathing air pollution that comes from a boat engine burning the fuel. That calculation, which was confirmed by the EPA, came out to 1.3 in 1, meaning every person exposed to it over the course of a full lifetime would be expected to get cancer...

For every 100 people who ate fish raised in water contaminated with that same product over a lifetime, seven would be expected to develop cancer..."

So is this likely due to typical government corruption from corporate influence peddling or because the agency was previously hollowed out by the previous Trump administration?

I was excited to hear what happened in Virginia.

Then I remembered that we live in a state where a super-majority has neutered the governor, gerrymandering is about to go into overdrive and, of course the cherry, a supreme court which is gonna let it all keep happening.

We're even a couple years past this now: https://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2018/12/08/north-carolina-9th-district-democracy-222853/

So, I totally feel this:

Polls continue to put out absurd numbers.

https://www.nytimes.com/2023/12/06/opinion/biden-campaign-polls.html?unlocked_article_code=1.EE0.Ts3i.eTQjgpPdzoge&smid=url-share

Quote :
"On 32 subjects ranging from abortion to China, the Democracy Corps survey asked voters to choose which would be better: 'Biden and the Democrats' or 'Trump and the Republicans.'

Biden and the Democrats led on... the president will not be an autocrat (two points) and protecting democracy (one point). There was a tie on making democracy more secure."
Quote :
"Particularly worrisome for Democrats, who plan to demonize Trump as a threat to democracy, are the advantages Trump and Republicans have on opposing extremism (three points), getting beyond the chaos (six points) and protecting the Constitution (eight points)."
Quote :
"... 'voters are now more likely to see the Republican Party as capable of governing, tackling big issues and keeping the country safe compared with the Democratic Party' and that 'by a nine-point margin, voters also see the Democratic Party as more ideologically extreme than the G.O.P.'"

A silver lining for Democrats is this possible explanation:

Quote :
"... these weaknesses result from declining confidence in their party within Democratic ranks rather than strong support for Trump and the Republican Party: 'The trends against the Democratic Party are largely driven by worsening perceptions among its own voter base...'"

Do these sentiments reflect voters who have completely left the Democratic party or those who are expressing their frustration but will ultimately still vote for Joe Biden in the 2024 election?

The Democratic Party has been a threat to the Constitution for generations. It's, like, core to their ideology.

...but next to the current GOP, they're like George fuckin' Washington.

Lol, this fool is still claiming she's a victim after getting caught streaming videos of her banging her hubby on Chaturbate. I'm not sure what's more embarrassing: her making this claim, or Politico taking it at face value and not even challenging her on it

The whole "we don't give a fuck what the Constitution says. Whatever we want to do, we'll just say it's a 'living document' and interpret things in whatever tortured way is necessary to provide some veneer of justification."

There is a process for changing the Constitution. It is, by design, inefficient and cumbersome, although that could be changed, too. Circumventing it is convenient in the near-term, but destructive in the long term.

I think that would depend very heavily on the results of 2024, and the Vice President rarely seems to be anointed as the standard-bearer the next cycle. Vice President doesn't seem to be a very respected position by the voters no matter who holds the office.

Tbh, I'd be quite surprised to see that. The Dems couldn't even remotely stomach her in the primaries 4 years ago. She really hasn't done anything to change that since
