I've put a lot of rounds through Beretta 92s, and I maintain that you can get a better pistol for that amount of money. 4/9/2007 11:19:20 AM |

if you can add $30 to that (maybe $40?) then that opens up the Springfield XDs from Lawmen's as well ($418 although they had one for $398 the other day that was new ). They also will have a good selection of Police Trade-ins (nice because MOST cops don't shoot often except at qualifications). You won't be able to get a NIB Glock, S&W, or Sig there since those manufacturers recently cracked down on them for sales to non-LEOs (they get better pricing than most since that's their specialty). If you're close to PDHSC, you're close to Lawmen's since they're right down the street from them (Anvil Dr. I believe, about 1/2 mile past PDHSC on Tryon).
Also, the Bersa Thunder is a .380 and NOT fullsize. They have a Thunder9 that's 9mm but it's not full size either.
Full size options: Glock 17 (used) Taurus PT92AF ($369 from cdnn) (basically a Beretta 92 but slightly cheaper) XD Tactical (new from Lawmen's or used) CZ-75 ($249 from cdnn)
Service/Compact options: (still ok for a beginner imo and it's more versatile) Glock 19 (used) XD Service 4" ($418 at Lawmen's or used) CZ
Man, there's really just not a whole lot that I would buy in that range anymore. I am interested in the Steyrs but haven't had a chance to do anything other than read about them yet. Only 9mm that I own or shoot are out of that price range by at least $100 now. IF you decide to up it some, you can find some deals on Sig 226s (possibly the best 9mm I've fired/owned), Walther P99s/S&W SW99 4/9/2007 12:18:17 PM |

Lawmen's occasionally has some STEALS on P226s, which are no doubt my favorite tactical-type handgun (and pretty much a tie, in my mind, with 1911s). 4/9/2007 1:49:55 PM |

FS or FT: Taurus PT1911
Yeah, I bought it last week, ran 260 rounds through it and decided that I don't like 1911s afterall (I've always disliked them but for some reason, the Taurus intrigued me. Oh well....). So, I'm getting rid of it. Comes with 3 mags (2 Taurus, 1 Wilson Combat w/ bumper pad, all feed flawlessly. I also have a Wilson 7 rd. mag that I need to exchange so that will make it 4 mags or 3 mags plus one you can exchange at YoungGuns in Apex). Also comes with kydex IWB holster, Double Mag holder, 50 rounds of Speer Gold Dot (230 gr. I believe, may be 200 gr. +P, I'll have to double check), and a Hogue finger-groove grip (installed, factory grips come with it as well).
I paid: 1911: $600 Mags: $40 Ammo: $25 Mag Holder: $25 Hogue grip: $15 Holster: $50 (I make these and this usually sells for $60)\ Total: $755
Gun is still in excellent condition. There is one small area on the right side from the slide cycling (see pics in my gallery). It has been flawless from shot #1. Current count is 50 rds. of Remington 230gr FMJ, 50 rds. Speer Lawman 230gr. TMJ, 60 rds. Speer Gold Dot 300gr. +P, and 100 rds Speer Gold Dot 230gr. The gun just doesn't appeal to me as much as I thought it would. Quality, accuracy, and reliability are all there. I'm just not a 1911 person.
Asking $650 obo.
Trades: XD9 (Service or Subcompact), Sig, SigPro, Kahr, possibly G19/G26 & Taurus MilPros. I AM looking for 9mm, might consider .45. Not interested in .40/.357. Also will consider HD 12 Gauge ($200-250 max unless it just really interests me, no 26" bbls, looking for HD so 18.5-20") and Ruger 10/22s. 4/12/2007 1:56:13 AM |
Thunderbear Veteran 294 Posts user info edit post |
^ If you want to part it out later, I could use some 1911 gear. Until then, I'll pass the info along to some buddies that want a 1911.
Edit: and damn, man, how can you not like a 1911?! That's like, unamerican.

^^ yeah man I know. I've just never really been a fan of them. I love their action but there's just something about them that doesn't appeal to me. Maybe I'm just too much of a function over form person and there's too many pretty ones out there. All I know is I'm weird. Out of all of my friends, I'm the only person that doesn't like them. Unfortunately, they already have one/some or are broke.
*edit* forgot to add, also interested in CZ, Walther P99/S&W sw99, and maybe some other stuff as well so throw it at me.

jeez, I keep posting in here today. I have a question for you guys though.
For those of you with your ccw permit, what would you pay for a kydex concealment holster (iwb) that's custom made? To give you an idea, I've been making my own for the past several months and I wear them daily. Everything from a Subcompact XD9 to my 226 and (sold) 1911. I've never been made by ANYONE (including my cop roommate & a bunch of other cops that all know I carry as well as friends that know it). I wear jeans/khakis/shorts and an untucked polo/button up shirt/ sweatshirt/jacket. I also walk/run/play basketball/etc. and I've never had so much as a slip. It's something that's a little time consuming but I enjoy it and I'm thinking about trying to make some money from it (start off slow with ebay or something). Any ideas? 4/12/2007 5:46:21 PM |

^^
I've thought about making my own. God knows my holster drawer is fucking full. I'd be down for this, as long as you can take custom specifications, and can form the kydex better than most of the DIY holsters I've seen.
You still have the P3AT? 'cause I could use a neck holster yesterday.
IDK for the Gold Dots, new box is 25ish at Lawmen's, so $20?

Thunder, the KT is gone already. $20 sounds fair. I'm in Knightdale but travel to Apex every couple days (tomorrow afternoon/evening & saturday evening I'll be out that way). I'll send you a pm with my number and just get up with me sometime.
As far as the molding, I don't do a very heavy mold since these are iwb. The retention from a heavy mold plus a belt holding the gun equals a really crappy draw. That's how I started doing them and have since loosened the molding so that it holds the gun but doesn't grab the gun. The OWB holsters I do (I've done I guess since I haven't made any owb in a while) tend to be fairly detailed for the extra retention and simply because it looks nicer. 4/13/2007 12:34:01 AM |

Well, I've narrowed down my summer gun and so I'm going to get rid of my Sig. I'm one of those people that likes to keep their actions similar and the G26 is too dissimilar to the Sig for me to be happy. So:
Sig P226 CPO DA/SA nitron finish. I purchased it in February (I think, maybe Jan.) and have put somewhere around 800 rounds through it. Will include the case and 4 mags. 2 mags are original zipperbacks and two are new MegCars. All are 15 rounders. Zipperbacks' springs seem a bit weak compared to the Megcars but there have been NO feed issues. In fact, I've never had a single problem with this gun. I take very good care of my guns and break down every one of them after firing for a good cleaning. Gun was apparently refinished at Sig along with new grips and they replace all worn parts & springs before they are sent back out. Basically you're getting a new gun. Oh, it's a 89 model too if you're like many of the people that prefer the feel of the older slides. Pic in my gallery. Gun is in great condition with a couple of spots of holster wear (it's my daily carry).
Asking $550 obo (seem to go for $600 in like condition with 4 mags) and I'll include my iwb holster as well.
*only good pic I have, this was taken yesterday*
