PM me if you know JavaScript and general high scale internet systems (Java, Databases). Our group also uses Grails. We concentrate on heavy reporting/analytics but also work on our main product.
I said JavaScript first because we need that the most.
http://www.rallydev.com/careers/
Highlights for Engineering:
Job Responsibilities We are looking for passionate developers interested in working across our stack (JavaScript on the front-end and Java on the back-end with an emphasis on a REST based platform) creating a revolutionary interface that pushing the limits of current browser based technology.
The ideal candidate will be passionate about how software is written, its quality and design, Object oriented design principals and test driven development.
Here are the top 10 reasons developers choose to work at Rally:
Hackathon - Every 8 weeks, Rally developers get a free week to work on whatever they want to help the business. This means that 12.5% of your time is free for exploring new technologies and architectures. Several Hackathon projects have been integrated into the product and released, so you have a real opportunity to influence product direction.
Influence - You are encouraged and empowered to make things better. The team owns all architectural and framework choices, so if something's not working, you really can change! Don't just put up with it, fix it, and you will have the support from your team and management to do so.
No ruts - You'll have the opportunity to work across the stack (JavaScript, Java, REST, database, etc.) as well as provide input to which features should be developed.
Collaboration - Our teams work closely together in a Scrum style, enabling us to learn from everyone's experience rather than getting trapped in silos.

Downtown Raleigh - Located in a trendy area of one of America's fastest growing cities and recipient of numerous accolades likes #1 among America’s Smartest Cities, Best Place to Raise a Family, #10 High-Tech Centers in the U.S...you get the idea. 8/19/2010 9:53:37 PM |

when you say javascript, do you mean somebody whose core competency and primary role is doing javascript? or should candidates have skills in other relevant web UI technologies like html/css/design/usability? and is that pure js or using frameworks like jquery?

They have friends here. You know them? Epic name drop fail
We use Ext-JS, but any relevant framework knowledge would be helpful. I know there are places that use home grown or no frameworks, but I'm not sure why they'd do that.
You have to know the DOM, HTML, CSS, and anything else you'd need to do front end work as well as all the backend serialization stuff (JSON, XML, REST vs SOAP).

I'm getting very excited about the previous job I spoke of. I did an interview and they had me do the paperwork for a federal background check. They said it could be a month or two before that cleared. This week they e-mailed me to get three work references. Got those to him, and one of them was a current co-worker (not my boss, though). He called her Thursday and since I hadn't been at her location in a while and she said "We sure miss him around here", his response was "Don't count on him coming back. We really want him on our team." w00t! Now just hope the salary offered is enough. Although all my friends will give me hell for it, esp. here, since I will officially be a traitor. 9/4/2010 3:19:44 PM |

We're hiring both interns and full-time in the Atlanta area - below is the official description that is correct for the most part but let me know if you want any clarification - we are looking to hire 4-5 college hires soon (probably december grads) and at least 1 experienced hire (3-10 years consulting experience) - in my opinion the perfect fit is CSC or EE that don't want to develop every day but can still crank out a helper utility as needed - it says SQL is preferred below but in my opinion if you can't write a simple select query you will not survive here
we are growing quickly and need some talented people ASAP - my team of 14 (that was 4 this time last year) has only 2 that aren't GTech grads
we are also looking for developers - a .NET shop except for the work done on mobile devices
we're a startupish company (2 sides of the business - this one is the more recent and is a bit over 2 years old)

^ what are you going to do if your current company counters with a similar offer? I see me getting a minimal raise this year (just because the company isn't making the money in general). I'll probably leave for more money but i could see them digging into their pockets to keep me around if i did give them word...or they could just say peace and that's it.
I've never been in the situation yet, just curious on how you tech guys handle going from one company to the next. 11/5/2010 1:04:03 PM |

Honestly I don't know, but I'm 99% sure that it will not be possible. They would have to throw me on a far higher salary schedule to meet the raise, as they are both state jobs, and the raise is over 12 grand. I also have seen no pay raise in 2 years at my current job. Not sure the etiquette on a counter offer. 10-12k would go farther where I'm at now, although the public schools are shit and I'm not allowed to bring my kids to school at my current employer. If they could give me both of those, I'd probably stay, because I love what I do, most of my coworkers, etc. 11/5/2010 2:04:27 PM |
