for tomorrow, i would go Jays over O's at noon. the Orioles have lost something like 15 straight in Toronto, and Guthrie is the starting pitcher. for whatever reason he never gets run support, although he always pitches well. the combination of the two makes it a no-brainer to pick the Jays to win. i could be wrong, but i highly doubt it.

There's been so many people bashing on that kid for his streak that he has going. Not even sure if he is 18 yet since he just graduated high school. Personally, I don't want him to win because he plays stupid. I don't know if you've ever played poker with some idiot who calls with anything and everything, and somehow is just on fire for the night despite the fact that he is clearly the inferior player.

When someone does hit the big money, I would like to think it will be someone who makes really smart picks all the way through. Some of his picks are major face-palm that just happen to work out.... nothing more than coin-flips.

Anyone who thinks it does not take MAJOR luck to put together a streak over even 15 is kidding yourself. You can make the 'right' pick every single time but odds are at least one time over a 27 game streak the right pick is gonna lose.

It absolutely does take a huge amount of luck. But in this game, there are two types of picks - picks in which the outcome is very random, and picks where the outcome is more predictable.

For instance, picking whether a run will be scored in a given inning, choosing between two evenly matched golfers, choosing whether a player gets a hit/BB/K or AOR, whether a HR will be hit in innings 4-6, which player will score more points, etc.... those are very random props and are usually no better than a coin-flip. Yes, there can be mitigating circumstances that would make choosing one side better than the other, but these are props that should really only be taken when you have a small streak and are trying to build your streak up.

The types of props that should be taken as your streak gets larger are the ones with less variance - usually full game props of sports that you are familiar with - NBA, NFL, MLB with good pitching match-ups, well known soccer matches, etc.

I realize I have never won the thing or even come close, but I have looked at a lot of the winner's streaks, and they generally follow this pattern. The guy in first has made a lot of really shady picks, and hey, they have worked out. I don't hate the guy, I would just prefer someone who plays more intelligently win.

The reason more people aren't at the top is b/c they play intelligently. There's a massive amount of luck when the minority event happens, yet it's those wins that makes the "smarter" people/picks reset and the "dumber" people/picks get higher streaks.

Of course you only see the few outcomes where the lucky picker makes his way to the top and have no clue how many people have already lost their streak due to retarded picks.

And to be fair to this kid, he had over 950 page views on ESPN in the day he picked his 25th matchup. I didn't feel like looking more into it, but I'm assuming he was doing his research.
