I find it odd that they can't figure out how to get Zaha in, who's PL proven and significantly cheaper, but then go spunk a ton of money on a guy no one has ever heard of unless you're a ligue 1 hipster and recently got benched by his national team during AFCON because he was playing so bad.
Maybe he turns out to be a beast but it sure doesn't add up on the surface. 7/29/2019 10:51:18 AM |

I thought I read that Palace was asking for £80m for Zaha and Pepe is around £72. Not that much cheaper and I bet Zaha's wage demands would be higher.
Don't disagree about risking on an unknown vs. Zaha though, especially because it's not even like this guy is super young. He's only two years younger than Zaha. I don't know shit about him but I have read good things from various blogs/analysis I usually respect. 7/29/2019 11:55:57 AM |

I mean he’s highly rated from what I can tell and Arsenal don’t have CL to tout so probably need to overpay a bit for quality.
In any case if Monaco pay us (anything) for Mustafi, lol. 7/30/2019 8:04:37 AM |

Would be one hell of a window for United if they pull off the Dybala/Maguire transfers and somehow keep Pogba. 7/31/2019 6:11:08 AM |

I initially really wanted him but after calmer heads prevailed it makes total sense Spurs backed down. He's not worth the money outlay for what our squad really needs addressing before the window closes. 92 million for a luxury player? Nah.
Still really hoping Lo Celso and Sessengnon come through before next week.
I don't know if you guys have any academy kids from preseason that really stood out, it might be interesting to look back after a few years and see who we mention, but I think Troy Parrott is going to turn into a fine player and will eventually be our back-up striker answered. He's only 17 but definitely doesn't look like it. Japhet Tanganga too. 20 year old CB who was very composed in every appearance. 7/31/2019 7:20:01 AM |

I don't think anyone from their youth teams will feature this year in the league except Brewster who is obviously part of Klopp's plans. They've just gone out in market past two seasons for a couple of potential world class players in Bobby Duncan, Ki Jana Hoever, Sepp Van Den Berg, and Harvey Elliott but I think they won't see anything past domestic cups this season.
For the rest, the standard "best prospect" guys at the club like Woodburn, Kent, and Wilson look like they're gonna be moved on. I read a few weeks back that Adam Lewis was likely to be promoted as depth at LB and them not going out in the market this summer after Moreno left makes it seem like that could be true. I haven't watched any preseason games but everybody was raving about Yasser Larouci (he was the one on the end of that horror tackle against Sevilla).
[Edited on July 31, 2019 at 12:07 PM. Reason : ^ who is Kane's backup this year with Llorente out? Moura? this Parrott guy?] 7/31/2019 11:54:33 AM |

Son in all honesty and then probably Lucas. I think Parrott could be a league cup start but I don't think he's ready for that back-up striker role just yet. Next preseason though I would expect to see him stick with the first team. 7/31/2019 4:12:12 PM |

Fucking great that our scouts can’t find one player from continental Europe and have to resort to ridiculous fees for players not worth that value. I actually think for once our board made the right call by pulling the plug on Dybala. Ridiculous wage demand and clearly didn't want to come here. Now inter pay up for lukaku. Awkward for Juve and Dybala is an idiot to want to stay there despite the blatant disrespect.

I don’t get how Spurs can afford Dybalas wage bill but I know I’d rather have Eriksen than Dybala. I doubt any of this happens because I think Levy is just posturing to show fans he tried and project spurs in the big club image. No way Spurs blow up their wage bill for Dybala. 8/6/2019 8:46:40 PM |

It's pretty much the same contract Kane gets with significant bonus from what's being said from Spurs people. I've also read he asked for more with United because he really didn't want to go there in the first place. Who really knows but that would make sense as to why that deal eventually fell apart.
I want everyone we're linked with obviously, but expect only Sess knowing Spurs. Prove me wrong Levy. 8/7/2019 7:11:18 AM |

Very happy we have moved Lukaku on. Now ready for this season to start. So excited. With United I think we are looking at a multi year project. I am happy with how we’ve revamped our defense even if slabhead was overpriced. I don’t expect him to live up to that price tag but fully expect him to improve our defense. Need Shaw and AWB to stay healthy. Biggest question marks are in attack and it’s a huge year for both Rashford and Martial in that sense. The lack of a replacement for Lukaku means we’ll have to hope Sanchez ups his production a bit but I don’t expect that to happen and if Sanchez even plays to half of his ability I consider that a bonus.
Arsenal and Tottenham have probably made the biggest strides this transfer window but Arsenal’s defense still leaves much to be desired. Obviously city and pool are the teams to catch but I still don’t expect Tottenham to do that. I do hope for a more open title race. I would put arsenal ahead of United and Chelsea to grab 4th at the moment but I think with United if Rashford and Martial can contribute 15 goals each with a further 10 from Pogba then we are in the conversation for third. I’d give us a B to B- this transfer window and the biggest wins are keeping Pogba and De Gea. It’s up to Ole now to show us there is a plan and I’d be happy with a top 4 challenge. 8/7/2019 11:55:45 PM |

Dybala isn’t happening. Sessegnon might still but it’s being reported it isn’t done.
Anyway, David Luiz? Meh... Tierney is good though but still major issues at CB. 8/8/2019 6:14:21 AM |

Just my quick opinions on the teams that had some transfers happening...
City: Best team in the league upgraded Danilo with a better player that also provides different options on the wing in Cancelo and got their long-term Fernandinho replacement in Rodri. They are going to walk the league imho.
Spurs: Lo Celso/Ndombele look like nice pickups. I don't rate Trippier that high but losing options in defense without replacing them is never a good thing. Still don't think they're better than Liverpool but obviously I'm biased.
Arsenal: I'm impressed with their window. Luiz is really good business for the price considering their current CB options and I think Kierney is going to be really good. Pepe looks to be a player and Ceballos even on loan is going to be an upgrade. And Saliba is a great pickup for the future.
United: Pretty good business from them ignoring prices paid. I don't get pushing Lukaku out the door without buying another striker because he's not a bad option of the bench but I agree it's finally time for Martial/Lingard/Rashford to deliver. 8/8/2019 6:35:02 AM |

This is going to sound kind of bitter and I’m certainly biased but Spurs finished ONE point above Arsenal last year. I think their league performance is overlooked because of their CL run (much like 2006 Arsenal). It takes only a slight drop-off or team 5 or 6 getting slightly better to overtake them.
I think it’s crazy to think they have closed a 26 point gap on Liverpool/City. In fact I’m shocked ANYONE could possibly think that happened. 8/8/2019 7:42:40 AM |

Emery runs a similar system to what Saari ran which suited Luiz. Though he was injury free last season so expect an injury this year. 8/8/2019 9:16:33 AM |

I don't think we're in a 3 horse race now, but I do think you're acting like a full strength Spurs finished one point above you. We missed our best player and probably the best striker on the planet for half the season, our entire midfield injured, and we could barely cobble together an XI the last 8 weeks of the season.
I remember in March we had a match to go tied for the top, and the big debate was how solidly we were in the title race. Ultimately Son, who was red hot the first month of Kane's absence, cooled off and we starting dropping tons of points as depth numbers dropped, league motivation dwindled since we were solidly in the top 4 until close to the end, and the business end of the CL was upon us.
I think we're solidly the 3rd best team in England and I would hope we can create a more open title race this go-round.
